How Do Heated Jackets Actually Work?
Heated jackets work similarly to heated blankets and heated car seats. During assembly, the back of each jacket is lined with an electronically powered copper heating zone, powered by a battery pack that sits within an inside pocket. They’re toggled on and off via a small temperature control inside the jacket.
Are Heated Jackets Safe?
Yes. Heated jackets are safe, though scepticism on their safety is reasonable as water and electricity don’t make for a healthy combination. If the jacket were to somehow get wet inside the lining, we would advise taking the jacket off and disconnecting the battery immediately, though getting wet won’t damage the jacket. The temperature control embedded within the jacket is waterproof, and you can even wash the jacket in your washing machine as long as the USB battery is removed before washing. It’s also worth noting that you should not use a heated jacket if you suffer from a serious illness or chronic health condition such as heart disease, anaemia, low blood pressure, paralysis, hypertension, diabetes or any other condition that causes poor circulation.
What About Overheating?
Our heated jackets have an internal thermostat so that they only heat up to the desired temperature setting you have set it to. However, if the temperature were to exceed this setting for any reason, there’s a built-in safety cut-out that will turn the jacket off immediately.

Something which is a very simple solution to staying warm but often overlooked is to keep your body zones where there are 'pulses' insulated. The 'pulse' zones most easily insulated are the ankles,the wrists and the neck. Keep these areas well insulated and free from chilling and your heat retention will improve dramatically. On the other hand, if you are overheated in hot humid weather then cool your ankles and wrist pulses in cold water. This will bring your overheated core temperature down quite quickly. Having clothing with a well insulated area down the middle of your back is also very effective as a lot of heat is lost along the whole length of the spinal column.

I'm a domestic heating (oil) engineer. I've been using one for a couple of months. Had 4 services today all outdoor boilers. I felt fine all day then the last service I suddenly felt freezing. I checked the battery and it was flat. So in my opinion it works amazingly.

I'm glad this has been brought up, ever since the last video on central heating bills I immediately thought about getting a heated jacket. I've ended up buying the heated gillet/vest which was about £40 with a battery. This thing does pack some heated out on the middle setting, the aim (which I am achieving) is to keep me warm enough so I don't need the central heating on as much as not as warm (down from 20 to 16 on the thermostat) which is definetly saving me money in these hard times and keeping me warm as a mobile mechanic outside. I've got a few battery packs knocking around which will easily heat me all day long at home or work! The millwaukee ones are expensive but worth the investment in extreme cold conditions but in the UK thats not really an issue, in fact they are too hot at times. Most of these chinese made jackets come out of the same few factories looking at the similiarities. Definetly worth the investment, heated gloves and socks are a thing as well...

More great content, cheers! Worth noting, lots of review say these type of jackets fail quite quickly... I'd suggest check your powerpoack first, not the jacket. I had one that I thought had failed, as eventually it would turn on momentarily with either of my powerpack but not stay on. I thought it had died, but they noticed advert suggesting the feed to the jack had to be 2A.. so I plugged it into my computers USB port, and it powered on fine.. the two powerpacks had gone duff, new ones order and jacket is working again!

I have a dehumidifier in my hall which points at the open door of the shower room. It comes on for an hour at night and keeps the towels dry without needing central heating. In the UK it costs me 12p per night on the night time tariff. Not sure about conventional dehumidifiers with compressors - they tend to be noisy and don't work at low temperatures as the cycle includes lower temperatures than ambient and they freeze up and have to defrost. I use a desiccant type dehumidifier. Specifically a Meaco dd8l Zambesi. It is set to come on at 3 in the morning, uses the lowest fan setting and so is quiet and does not disturb me. Most units do not have inbuilt timers and so you cannot use them in this way. I did use an older unit for a while with an external timer but the instructions warn that they have to have time to cool down after use to avoid damage. Cutting the power with a separate timer does not allow this. Currently using a heating pad (2 foot by 1 foot) and blanket draped across my lap to keep warm without the central heating and am considering a heated jacket instead - probably a better solution. It hasn't got particularly cold yet so I am actually looking forward to some cold weather!

I've had the milwaukee coat for years now and it performs really well, only issue is the main zip works the wrong way round, (the zip goes in from the left). Also had the milwaukee heated hoodie since 1st generation and that's been brilliant, washes really well. Bought my wife an 8k flexwarm that failed just outside warranty - they didn't want to know 😡. On the plus side she says it's really toasty without the heating elements working anyway. Last winter I bought the Dickies heavy duty waterproof overalls for working outside all day in pouring rain. Definitely one of my best purchases, completely waterproof & windproof. Can wear shorts and t shirt under (in -12°C) and still be toasty warm. Definitely recommend those. Just got to find some good work gloves now. Regards Tim

I've been thinking about one of these for fishing, but was wondering about rhe efficiency of each. My question is approximately how long would a 5ah battery last if it powered one these constantly? (not that I would do that). Also I have heated insoles and I find that they don't warm your feet up from cold but they will stop your getting cold if switched on early enough.
@flitsies
@flitsies Жыл бұрын
I would think it would also depend on the battery pack used with the insoles, I had gloves that used a similar pack system and they were useless, but I connected them to a lithium cell and they were much better, so it could be just to do with the type of battery used. Just one other thing, I don't think you would want your boots to be overly hot or you could end up with problems when you take steps, the pressure could cause you to get burnt, so you wouldn't really want them that hot anyway, just enough to take some of the cold away, unless they were in motorcycle boots.

My arms and legs feel cold in contrast, making me shiver, so I hardly used it. The newer designs seem to use heat pads, or mesh, and these are more effective.

i have a Flex-warm jacket, i had a Milwaukee didn't like it. if you don't want to waste a lot on a heated jacket you can go on ebay and buy heated 5v pads sow or glue them into your coat and connect to a power bank i did this to my gaming chair now my back and bum are toasty 😁

@Luke Lewis Hi season's greetings to you. I have only just seen this video of Rogers regarding heated jackets. Could you explain please how did you wire up the heating pads, how did you incorporate a controller/on off switch and what type of power pack did you use please

I have one of these jackets and it keeps me warm even when it’s -5 degrees. At least mine does.

They are great, especially first thing on a frosty morning. Have had a Milwaukee for a number of years, a present from my son, cost $80, better value than in little Britland, no surprise there, 😂, probably around the 100 squid mark now, UK price.
