Solmar Beach at the end of the Baja California Peninsula is often considered the most dangerous beach in the world due to the number of tourists who drown there and at the neighboring Lover's beach. Hotel guests are prohibited from swimming for the majority of the year, however, each year the Mexican government issues a permit to a group of Skimboarders to hold a contest at the beach.

I am a surfer but I have hardcore respect for skimboarders. I tried to jump on one and almosr broke my neck. These guys rip and are awesome to watch. They should have a contest at the wedge if tjey don't already.

@@thisismov Doesn't surprise me at all that they won't issue a permit for a contest. I think They're to afraid of lawsuits or "people" seeing a injury, g@d forbid,. In other words I think that they don't want to burst their little "perfect world bubble"

At first I thought you were speaking about Laguna, but yes I have been to Solmar Beach. First day I had to rescue a tourist, then we heard of someone who was lost the day before.Two day later same thing...another swimmer never seen again. We were there in September and the beach break was 6' to 8".

What is the best part of skimboarding, when does somone 'hit that whave' ? It seems so short. And isnt it uncomfortable becouse hitting the sand so frequently and the short duration? As a non surfer/skimboarder I cant see where the you get the kick out of this. With surfing i do.

Well this is some of the heaviest and fastest shorebreak in the world. It's some pretty extreme conditions with the best riders in the world. I've never been too hurt I couldnt keep going when slaming on the sand. Check out the dudes who ride Teahupoo and Cyclops. That shit looks uncomfortable.

I guess I just don’t really get skim boarding. I can’t imagine what the injury rate must be in waves like this. I’d rather just surf. That being said, I do really enjoy the KZfaq videos were people jump on the board and it stops and they go flying.

So you run full speed, hop on your board, and go out to ride a wave for 2 seconds just to fall onto sand and risk injury... maybe I’m wrong but the impacts into the sand on these clips just seem pretty harsh

there are 5 species of manta, 4 are the genus mobula. these are 1 of the 3 species that are found in this area.

Reminds me of Sandy Beach on Oahu Hawaii. Very dangerous place. I heard it was the most dangerous beach in the world because of the amount of drowning deaths and neck and back brakes. I almost died there, it was very scary.
