Bought my 2007 Highlander with 160k a few years ago. Now in 2024 has 390k, all maintenance done by me. Gets 22 mpg, city. During the summer will be driving almost 4000 cross-country vacation with a twin size built bed, mini fridge plus other comforts. Have every intention to keep it 'till 500k😊 May the Yota force be with you.

I have a 2003 Highlander Limited, in excellent condition that was previously owned by a late family member. It had 88K on the engine, it now has 104K on it now. it's a great car and very reliable.

The issue with the temperature changing from cold to hot has to do with the aging soldering of the wiring of the control knobs. You can send the control to companies online who repair the unit for about $75. You can "temporarily" fix the issue by doing exactly what you did - turn the know all the way one way then back. I've been "temporarily" fixing mine for ten years now.

I bought a 2005 model with the 4wd and V6 in 2008, in 2011 we moved to Sweden and kept it as our daily car until 2018 we loved it. Now we have it as our vacation car in Spain. The Highlander have never let us down at all, works so great Winter, Summer with or without family in the car. The best car we eve have had. We have had no (zero) issues at all and it has 120.000 miles now.

I had trouble with my reargate as well, and all I did was change out the hydraulic struts and now it is like new. Love this car. It has grown on me very quickly. Another thing you are missing here is that you aren't supposed to press and hold the button for the sunroof. It is a one time press and release. That way, it will shut the sunroof properly with no issues.

Thank you for sharing your experience with your 2005 HL. I have a 2005 HL AWD limited. I have the same issues with the tailgate and the moonroof. Mine has got 172 k miles. Yes, it is like new for the age (18 years old)!

Hello! That is called a maintenance key. It's for when you leave it at a shop, the mechanic can turn on the car but cant unlock the glove box in case you're keeping personal stuff in there.

Thanks for your review and the tip about the power steering line. We sold our minivan during the pandemic and picked up a '06 Limited Highlander with 155,000 miles and a '03 base Acura RSX with the proceeds, since we had some time to learn how to do our own general maintenance and replace worn parts. The only real issue is a slow leak with the A/C, which I've found I need to recharge an average of 3 times throughout our humid Virginia summers. Not sure I would want to pay a mechanic to dig in to find where the leak is, as I can live with having to do the task. Otherwise, it's been a great, quality vehicle that drives smooth and will hold up for many more years to come.

I have a 2004 Limited. Bought new, now only 90k mi, but almost all city. Original radiator, alternator, water pump and never even had to add refrigerant to A/C. Blows ice cold in Calif. Central Valley 105 degree heat. Only thing replace was timing belt service and rear struts. Nice back seat for granddaughter’s car sear and plenty of room in Mack for Costco trips. Great vehicle. Love it.

My mom drives one of those and it has been great for about a year now nothing major happened it's a 2007 Highlander with the 3.3 L V6 which has been great no major issues in the powertrain except for that transmission issue you did talk about when you're not going too fast it will feel jumpy and I have felt that like when you're coming off a stop sign you will feel that or when you're backing out of your driveway it will feel it and it feels weird I thought that it was the transmission wearing out but turns out I was wrong anyways the exterior of the car is in phenomenal shape and the interior is the Great the seats aren't worn out seriously worn-out the radio still works the AC still blows cold and so far everything's been great no major issues for 185k I love Toyota's I love Honda's I hope to get either a RAV4 or a Lexus ES as my first car

You have to initialize the sunroof everytime the battery is removed. Just push and hold the close button. It will automatically open and close when you press the button without holding it.

The A/C knob has an issue. It gets loose and when it does, it screws up the connection. It basically needs to be taken apart and be re-soldered to the circuit board. You have to be very careful, though, because the ABS plastic is brittle and can easily break. Don't ask me know I know this.

Mine has 140k miles. average mpg is 21 - no issue since 2005 (17.5 years old). V6 model. Pretty easy to do all basic maintenance like oil change, transmission fluid drain and refill,...but extremely difficult to replace spark plugs (end up having local mechanic to do the job for me for $365)

Be glad you HAVE a console. My '01 Limited doesn't have anything there, except cup holders that pull out from the driver seat. I have to have a basket between the seats for my misc stuff that I want close/handy. Other than that, my Highlander looks almost exactly like yours! I'm getting about 25mpg in city. After having mine for 3 years, I've only put 13K miles on it. Now it has 166K miles. I do not have the third row of seating, but I don't need it. Lots of road noise. I do have a spoiler over the rear window. I don't nit-pick like you do.....I love my Highlander. Mine is the same color and it looks just as nice as yours! Mechanically, I've done a lot to mine, but it's 22 years old! (mine) Thanks for your opinion of your Highlander.

Under the temp control nob is a bolt. It may have come loose and is causing the hot air when the ac is on.

hey SK great video we just bought a 04 V6 AWD same rims but like a midnight blue colour we live in Canada but anyways reason why your key doesnt open the door is because previous owner made a spare key programed to the ignition wasnt a original that would of started the car aswell as opened all doors my guess

SK Lifestyle: Thanks for the informative video on the Toyota Highlander. I have a 2006 Toyota Highlander Limited. I have experienced the Baffling noise while driving with your rear passenger windows down. Its’ quite annoying ! I have lessened the Baffling noise when having both the front and rear passenger windows open by keeping the top edges of the front and rear windows at the same height or elevation from the fully closed position. I normally will only open the windows, so there is a 3 or 4 inch from the top of the closed positions. That lessens the noise. Its better than having the window levels uneven. Also I never open or use my sunroof because of the same Baffling noise. I also do not like the mechanism that opens the sunroof, because if you push the button too long the window does not seat properly, like you mentioned in your video. I’m concerned that rain water may come inside. So, I just don’t use the dam thing. The problem with your Toyota key. The Highlander keys have computer chips embedded inside, that permits the cars security system to allow engine ignition. You should have your key checked. Out by a Toyota Dealer to fix that key. You can have duplicate keys made by Home Depot or Lowes or your area hardware store. Those keys will open your car doors but will not allow you to start your car. You were smart on how you fixed your leaking power steering line. I had a similar problem with my power steering line, but I could not crawl under the car to fix my problem due to a back problem. I had to have the dealer repair the line. It cost me close to $700. bucks, after everything was done. KZfaq has a few videos on that repair that are a lot less expensive. Also check our A1 Auto for their KZfaq videos on Highlander repairs. One last thing. My Highlander has a splash / mud guard under the front of the car which would protect they lower engine components for damage. Who ever had your vehicle before you did not bother to re install it. That happened to my Splash guard. After the first year of taking my Highlander to the dealer for regular oil changes, they did not bother to re install it and I did not catch it ! So, now I do not have a splash guard either. On last thing, the Toyota Highlander Limited edition, which has the digital dash heater controls does have digital read outs for external and internal temperatures, gas mileage, trip time, vehicle trip time ,gas consumption rate and a few other. Over the past 2 years, mice have destroyed my under hood insulating blanket. I have had a difficult problem with keeping mice from getting into the cabin filter area, from the outside the vehicle. Look forward to your future videos. I hope some of my comments will help other Highlander owners.

Try to get that key replaced before it gets stuck or something because that's a very wired thing, maybe bent just enough you can't see it looking at it ,sometimes

Sunroof can be reset. Make sure tracks are clear. Glass may need to be adjusted up or down by putting glass in tilt mode and loosening screws. Also, keep sunroof seal clean and mating surface where it meets metal. Front drains are visible but rear are not: Rear drains out behind each rear wheel, the front run inside front fender liners behind front wheels. White lithium grease ONLY. Solvents will dissolve tar-like sealant that seals plastic water accumulation trays to metal sunroof track system, and create a leak that will require removal of sunroof assembly entirely to repair. Speaking entirely from experience. Great vehicles! I've got a 2002!

Bought my 07 Highlander 2nd hand 8 years ago. It only had 30k miles at the time! Has 115k now. No mechanical issues at all. The sunroof did break, so it only pops up in the back now and will not retract back. It also leaks a bit in heavy rain. Toyota quoted 4k to fix it.

I think the second key is a Valet Key... you should be able to lock your glove box.. the Valet Key doesnt open the glove box... so that you keep you belongings safe

I don't have a highlander but I do have a 2006 RAV4 at 199k miles no major problems starts up in two cranks shifts butter smooth no leaks. Toyota power! 👍 I wouldn't mind a highlander though for the V6.

My great aunt used to have a 05 Highlander Limited which is silver with gray leather. She has had it for many years. She traded it in for a 2016 Acura MDX SH-AWD. I don’t know how many miles were on it.

Hey man the shocks for the lift gate are easily replaced if worn out. Even with no mechanical experience. They’re only about ~$40 bucks for both.

The a/c cycles. All cars do. Did you not read the owners manual? That is a valet key.

I am owing one also, 90K+ mileage. Unlike other SUVs, this unit-body car has a good rust-proof coating. As long as you wash the undercarriage regularly and re-paint the rust spots, the body frame will stay forever.

Silicons Spraying the rear door struts will help that door lift.

Replace your tailgate lift supports and your good to go 👍🏼👍🏼

One thing I found is that if you replace the alternator & belts & you start the car right away you will get a sqeaking noise for a period of time when you first drive. I looked it up on KZfaq & mechanics said to turn on the key, wait for the seatbelt alarm to stop & it should not squeak. It may also squeak even if you start the AC too fast. Anyone else have this "problem"? The tempature is indicated on my rear view mirror on my 07. Also if you have never changed the transmission fluid regularly you may not want to have it flushed & new fluid because your transmission may slip. Scotty Kilmer has a great channel on Toyotas & cars in general. You air may be low on coolant so buy a recharge kit at Autozone..

Smart move!; These Toyotas are a great value new or used. I have a 2010 Highlander with 100k miles. I bought it new. It's in excellent condition. Aside from routine maintenance like brakes, tires, 2 batteries, and fluid changes, I had to do the front struts and a sensor that's it. Car drives like new. No creakes or rattles. Engine is smooth. Interior is clean. I'm keeping it for another 5 to 10 yrs at least. It has been paid off for the last 10 yrs. NO car payment since being paid off early,( I had put a large down payment) * pro tip: invest the money in the stock market that you would have spent on buying a new car every few years! You can literally amass hundreds of thousands of dollars with interest by doing that!! Anyone can become a millionaire in America! Just have some discipline and be smart and hope the democrats dont continue to destroy the once booming economic recovery. Buying a well made used Highlander can make you wealthy if you invest the money $$ saved instead of buying a new car every few years!

At almost 60 yo this is the best car I have ever owned . I got mine as a as is trade in for 4 grand all I did was breaks and a 100,000 mile tune up and it hasn't cost me a dime .I origionaly told my neice to buy it and she thought it was too old and she bought a new Nissan Pathfinder . So I bought it . . I do get a chuckle when she borrows my old Highlander when her Nissan breaks down . What a greak SUV

For the Ac ,if you start the car and it's been sitting in heat well that maybe why it takes an while to turn cool air, and it's age bro so that all makes that work that way.

The reason that one key doesn’t unlock the doors is because it’s a valet key. I have a 2011 Toyota Sienna and it has the same thing.

It sounds like your wife's key wasn't cut properly. I drive a 2017 Grand Cherokee. I have 2 fobs. The fobs have removable physical keys. One is a replacement from an auto locksmith that came to my home to reprogram. But the physical key needed to be cut. I did that separately at Ace Hardware. That key opens the car door but won't lock or unlock the glove box. After a close examination of both keys, there is a slight difference. So that may be your issues as well.

Your picky points are ridiculous. I have the same car and the picky point I have is the 3 spark plugs in the back of the engine. You have to take out the fuel injection and manifold to get to them. A $500 job. and the transmission won’t go into first until dead stop, making it jerk into first when stepping on the gas. Other than that, the car is perfect.

our 06 Highlander Limited 3.3 has 347K, its our daily driver. I hate it, it wont stop running!!!!!!!

They probably changed the ignition of the car with a different key

2002 (22 years) Higlander 2wd 27OK miles + original engine/ tranmission. Drove in blizzard in Buffalo and it held grip . Lot of your gripes are picking over a early 2000s design. Wasnt meant to be a Lexus. Toyota didnt want to put under engine covers, rear usb outlets, vanity mirror not lightinh till its pulled over all the way (cmon dude), etc on an early 2000s daily driver. Apples to Apples ...buy a Lexus and then nit picking over that makes sense

My limited 07 hybrid has the outside temperature 🌡, on dash, I think they all have it besides the Basic model ,now yours I'd still buy aswell but yeah basically the same just limited simply more luxury looking interior and led brake lights really the only major difference between yours fyi, maybe some other little extras added but nothing else
