The virtual pedal for Kodiak works differently from others. To get it open 100% every time, kick it straight at the centre, don’t swerve your leg. This is because the sensor runs along north-south direction, not east-west.

Great review, l've fixed the performance concerns with a nice remap. 291bhp & 404ft/lbs of torque and some impressive dragy gps times of 5.7s to 60mph, 14.2s to 100mph and a decent 13.9s qtr mile time, all pretty impressive for a big 7 seat diesel 👍

EDIT: The base diesel model is now gone, the cheapest diesel is the Kodiaq RS. -------- The Kodiaq range kicks off from AUD$42,990 (plus on-road costs) for the Kodiaq 132 TSI and it jumps to AUD$48,990 (plus on-road costs) for the entry-level 2.0-litre diesel. Do you think the Kodiaq RS is worth the big price jump? It starts from AUD$65,990.

Some impressions of the Columbus and MIB3 after my first Kodiaq week.. I have been driving 3 years with my VW Tiguan 2019 with mib2...And I gotta say that Im a bit surprised that mib 3 have less function than mib 2 on the Columbus navigation system... Besides the lack of function to import personal POI..(which exist and work perfectly in mib 2) the mib 3 Columbus also lack the "View in View" function that would open a separate window when turning of highway or similar and shows the road signs really clear (and yes that also worked perfect in mib 2) In general I can now say after a few days driving that the Columbus mib 3 have been stripped of some functions that gave good info in mib 2...Like when your closing up to a departure your view in view window would show you more info leading up to the departure.. The mib 3 Columbus simply shows an arrow pointing in the direction that you shall turn off to and the name of the new road..Which could be good enough I suppose... But the thing is that - that is the way it looked on the first portable navigator I purchased some 15 years ago... So in my meaning if you develop mib 3...you will get mib 2...a bit strange to me... Having said all that mib 3 have some new things...like that you can set the cruise control to follow the speed on the road signs (so you don't need speed cams right...) however driving today testing that it was rather good for a while..until it didn't work at all since the maps in my Kodiaq (picked up new last week) seem to be to old so the speed on the roadsigns are simply wrong in the navigator...But I like the thought thou so if they get the maps correct that seem like a useful function... Also the big thing in mib 3 is wireless android auto/apple CarPlay...And to me that's actually the only thing I would like to keep from mib 3...so give me that in mib 2 and I would be a happy camper... And in the end it comes down to that when I buy a new car..and know that the high end navigator have been updated to a new platform..I actually expect it to be able to do ALL that the old one was capable of...and then some...(why else update??) I also expect it to be more capable then my 8 year old portable Garmin (which it is not at the moment...) But hey that's just me... However I don't understand why VW/Skoda have gone this way. Even though I have seen some theories that VW/Skoda does not want to spend money developing the nav systems so they would like people to get hooked on google maps/waze/apple maps or similar...but who know... I must say Im rather disappointed on the mib Columbus for the reasons above... Other then that Im really happy about the Kodiaq as such..great car.. Take Care All and Have a great new year.. Best regards Micael

Love the channel guys. You go into depth and add some unique testing (hardness measurement). Why do car manufacturers keep making the wireless phone charge areas so damn small... You should plug in the cable for car play then throw it in there to see if it still fits... Maybe you could please include little annoying practicality details like that in future reviews?

Hey Carlo - great idea! We will make sure we cover that in future reviews. Where there isn’t wireless CarPlay it’s a bit pointless to have a phone slot that doesn’t fit the phone when connected to a cable.

ah Skoda now have the same door protectors that Ford have had for years. some good features, Velcro guides for cargo is a good idea, but most owners will have a rubber cargo mat fitted to protect the carpet, so no grip for Velcro, weighted guides would be better. Agree it needs a petrol engine option. But great detailed review as always Paul.

I love these skodas, basically the tech of the VW group with a bit of exclusive styling and lower price. Only thing I worry is about their long term reliability and also coz of the same, their depreciation. As they say, simpler the thing, lesser will go wrong. May not be the most fun though. Would love to hear about their long term reliability from the owners here. N as always, great review Paul.

Hi Paul, let me correct you Kodiaq with permanent AWD doesn't exist. It's permanent FWD haldex system and it's not genuine All-Wheel Drive. VW haldex system converts the FWD system into all-wheel drive, normally through the use of electronic sensors and differentials to redirect power to the rear wheels. Hopefully you don't feel offended by me correcting you.
@CarExpertAus
@CarExpertAus 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! Let me double check with Skoda - I’m almost certain it regularly operates a 90/10 torque split (front/rear) and can send up to 50 percent of torque to the rear axle. Will report back.
@jangonda4837
@jangonda4837 3 жыл бұрын
Paul I'm Czech citizen and the information I've is from Škoda. VW own Škoda / Seat and they all share VW haldex technology. So most likely Škoda in Australia will ask this question directly to Škoda Mladá Boleslav in Czech Republic who knows this the best. Paul no offens by any means but majority of Škoda dealers outside Czech Republic giving misleading information to their customers. They don't really know what they're selling. Don't take me wrong Škoda is these days very good car brand I personally own Škoda Kodiaq 2.0tdi 4x4 so i know what I'm talking about.

@CarExpertAus 3 жыл бұрын
@@jangonda4837 Hi Jan, I just heard back and you're right. This is what we were told by Skoda: "It’s basically running the 4MOTION system, which can send power to any of the four wheels independently, depending on the situation. In normal cruising mode, it typically runs FWD to conserve fuel."

Cant really get my head around the doesn't have much go comment. Its only 0.2 secs slower to 100 than the 245 RS Octavia wagon. This is for a heavier 7 seat SUV that is not meant to be a performance car. Having driven one, I think it is perfectly capable in just about any situation on the road that you could find yourself in, in a family SUV.
@CarExpertAus
@CarExpertAus 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah but it's worth keeping in mind the Octavia is front-wheel drive, and is still quicker. And the reason I mentioned that comment is because the Octavia RS is a massively smile inducing car and wears the RS badge proudly. This wears an RS badge too but doesn't really feel all that quick - don't get me wrong, it's sporty, but it doesn't feel at the level of the Octavia RS in terms of how good it makes you feel inside - if that makes sense 😅 It'll appeal to most, but if you're buying it because it has an RS badge and expect it to be super fast, it just misses the mark.
@scollyutube
@scollyutube 4 жыл бұрын
Agree, I think this is supposed to offer a blend of the highest performance in the Kodiaq range and still efficiency. The performance is all torque spread over less revs being a diesel, so doesn't push the same as a petrol motor. Still, the 80 to 140kph passing acceleration and going up steep roads is pretty satisfying though.

Great Video Paul, cover a lot others have missed. I'm replacing an F25 X3 Xdrive30d, love the car but looking for a 7 seater under $100k (Aussie), I want the torque that makes the every day commute enjoyable and effortless, from everything I've driven the Kodiaq RS comes closest but still lacks compared to the BMW 3L Diesel. Love the brakes in the RS (try stomping on the brakes of a Sportline :/ ), Really like everything you've said, but I am not sure if that Drone would become too much for the family on longer trips. I also don't think a DSG is suited to heavier SUV's, getting off the line in traffic still isn't fine tuned as a good old Torque converter (Q7 50d = perfect drive, shame it lacks in so many other area's). Anything else you think I should be looking at ?
@CarExpertAus
@CarExpertAus 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, David! When you sit down and look at all the competitors, the Kodiaq RS really is in a class of its own in terms of the equipment and sporty offering. I read another comment on here that suggested an engine tune helps it get more torque and feel faster, so maybe that's the perfect middle ground for you. It won't be as punchy as your X3, but it'll be damn close!

I think VW Group didn't allow the RS have the 2L GTI turbo engine due to the sales would be taken away from the Tiguan 162 Allspace, which I own and love. If I had the choice I will pick the RS due to the interior and practicality being better than Tiguan, the 3rd row Kodiaq can seat small adults, while the Allspace is children only, a massive advantage noone talks about.

Yeah good point - there's not a huge amount to choose from. I think the thing that comes closest is the Audi SQ5 (smaller) or the Tiguan 162TSI (again, smaller car). I really wish they just offered it with a peppy four-cylinder petrol and it'd be a real 'ball-tearer' ;-)

A couple of things disappoint about Kodiak, no 3rd row air vents and only 2 tonne towing compared to Tiguan’s 2.5 tonne.

Would you buy this or the Ford Everest Sport ?
@CarExpertAus
@CarExpertAus 4 жыл бұрын
It depends what you're after. This feels much more premium inside and is far more nimble. But the Everest is more capable off-road.

How does this compare to the Alfa Stelvio 2.0T?
@CarExpertAus
@CarExpertAus 3 жыл бұрын
Stelvio is smaller and only five seats. Infotainment system is also pretty poor in comparison. Alfa Romeo should have a seven-seat version coming soon.

Is it the Amarok 2l TDI engine ??, rumour has it that it is. But no one can confirm or deny.
@CarExpertAus
@CarExpertAus 4 жыл бұрын
I don't think it is. The Amarok engine code is CSHA and Kodiaq RS is CUA. Compression ratio is also different (15.5 on Skoda and 16.5 on Amarok).
