This is a step by step walkthrough of our Off-Grid Solar Power and AC/DC Electrical System in our Skoolie!
We are officially collecting Solar Energy in our bus! It's such an amazing feeling! This week we set up our entire Solar System, hooking up our solar panels to the charge controller, batteries, inverter, DC Fuse Block and AC Breaker Box.
In this video we highlight how we set up and laid out most of our connections including crimping and heat shrinking wires, take you through how we mounted everything in the garage of our bus, and step by step walk-through of every connection. Shawn will talk about wire gauging and length, the best fuses, inverter types, and more so hopefully this can be a good resource if you're looking to set up your own system!
Special thanks to an amazing website by Explorists.Life who highlight everything you need to know and provide a link to each resource you may need. This was sooo helpful if you already know your system sizing: www.explorist.life/solarwirin...

I know you did this years ago but I do have a suggestion about the inverter. I'm assuming that it's got fans in it to help move the hot air out of it. But laying down the inverter isn't as helpful as putting it upright with the fan blowing the hot air out of the top.

Hey guys!! New sub here, I think you did an awesome job on the install!! I just want to point one thing out to prevent any problems with your inverter. The black wire coming from your inverter to the breaker box; where it comes out of the inverter through the manufacturer hole. I would highly recommend a cable connector where it exits the inverter.. The vibration of driving may start to wear on the wire and mess things up for yall.

OK if anyone tells you you can't teach an old dog new tricks tellem BS you just taught this old dog a lot thanks buddy my 110 is ran tru the busto a breaker box when I got it ,now I gotta run the DC and get batteries and all that stuff. I'm going very simple on that! Keep up the good work stay safe stay strong stay healthy god bless and enjoy life.✌🤙❤👨‍🍳🎅s PS I'm going lazy on the DC power I'm gonna get a couple up the small solar generators I guess maybe one battery that will just run the refrigerator the rest of the DC clamp will come from the generators.

No.... sadly not even close. We will need a generator when not plugged in if we want A/C. But we can run a heck of a lot of fans! lol

Hey Shawn. Great job on the wiring. You learned well as a novice. We are at the point of wiring our box to our inverter to our solar HOWEVER we are not doing anything with 12V AT ALL. The plan is to use the power to go from solar/battery DC to inverter and load center there by AC. We will power our fridge, water pump, hot water heater all from the 6 plugs we installed in the bus on 3 breakers. Just wondering how to properly connect the inverter to the load center.

Todd McMahon, our inverter was super simple. Just connected 6/2 wire which is 6 gauge with a hot, neutral and ground from the given ports and connected them straight into the breaker box. Ours had three available ports (line, neutral and ground) for each our Grid line, Generator line and then our AC line. Any reason why no 12V? Hope that’s specific enough.

Shawn and Ash we were trying to keep it as simple as possible for our needs. We have lighting that runs off bus battery that we could use. We also have LED battery lights that we will be using for our other needs.

Question.... How did you connect the wire inside the inverter that ran to the breaker box?
@ShawnandAsh
@ShawnandAsh 3 жыл бұрын
There are ports to run the hot, neutral and ground wires in the inverter. Three for the Breaker Box, three for the generator and three for shore power. They make it really simple. It’s all labeled and even came with crimped connectors which I didn’t actually use lol
