@@SKSProps yes, I remember you mentioned so on a livestream. Since you also explained that Liquitex Heavy Body acrylic wasbetter quality paint, that’s what I’ve been using. You used it during college, correct? Still, your painting transfers very well to prop making.

@@SKSProps I saw them. A hell of alot better! Keep the intro. I saw that you have more viewers on those videos. Make your intro last just a little more longer and introduce all your creations through consecutive shots. Anthony Ferraro of Create Sci-Fi on KZfaq, always starts his videos off with him laughing throughout his videos after his intro. I have another KZfaq channel with a main web series paying homeage to Elvira Mistress of the Night, Young Frankenstein, The Addams Family, and The Munsters. The name of my web show is called The Darkest Hour with Dr. Mortrid. Check out Storm Oak T.V. Unfortunately I didn't get an "Exacto Knife" or "Hobby Knife" I got a utility knife and it is NOWHERE near sharp enough to pass through the foam cleanly in one go...

This is basically how you make larp safe weapons for the UK so this ended up actually being a really good tutorial for the entire process and not just making a presentation/cosplay piece.
@SKSProps
@SKSProps 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! That’s also good to know maybe I’ll look into producing some larp weapon specific videos in the future 👍
@Kartorian
@Kartorian 3 жыл бұрын
@@SKSProps That would be cool. There's always plenty of weird tricks I've seen people do to give their weapon some extra fancieness. Like adding sheet lead to weight the handle or making an impromptu core for an axe by wrapping a small piece in kevlar tape so it doesn't rip off if you try to hook shields. Who knows. If you do some latp specific videos maybe the US will start to move away from buffers and pool noodles.

Awesome builds, Steve! Did you seal the paint job using some clear coat of something?
@SKSProps
@SKSProps 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! No I don’t ever seal my props or costumes that kills the matte vs metallic sheen once everything is covered with a semigloss or matte spray. I just let the paints speak for themselves 👍

Just saw this video great build. Might be a silly question would this axe be suitable to be used in LARP Battles?
@SKSProps
@SKSProps Жыл бұрын
The design would be fine. but while my foam is great for holding and carving details larp groups require a different type of foam for combat.

Steve I got a question does the ax head flap around and would it be safe to say hit things with it, not hard of course?
@SKSProps
@SKSProps 3 жыл бұрын
The axe head remains pretty rigid and you could hit something and it should be fine. Again the higher the density of the foam the more likely it is to stand up to wear and tear

So I know you probably won’t see this but would a dowel work instead of the fiberglass rod?

I read all of my comments 👍 it could it just isn’t near as strong for the diameter. So don’t use it for larp or smack anything to hard

thanks so much, also during the shaping step would only a knife work, or do I also need rotary tools? I know you said I don’t need a sander but I wasn’t sure if I could only use a knife or not
@SKSProps
@SKSProps 5 ай бұрын
@@ToasterInaFridge you can use a knife to get the rough shape. But if you’re going to be doing more foam work invest in a rotary tool. They aren’t very expensive check out the review I did on the Wen version a while back

@@SKSProps my main concern is that I currently live overseas and will be moving back to the states in the next few months so dealing with shipping, and voltage problems are the main reasons I’m not currently investing in a rotary tool but I will once I move back to the states
