I have recently been informed that if you can get the patch to install, it fixes the map to show your location and adds in those executions I mentioned. It also fixes the infamous palceholder cutscene so that it's actually cropped correctly. ... but it also heavily glitches and hampers your attacks, disables the weapons after a certain point, and puts a T-Pose dino in the Deathrunner Council cutscene. So two steps forward, two steps back.

Game Mill really wants to be the next Gilson B. Pontes or Digital Homicide, I swear. Also the scale of Kong makes him just look like a slightly larger than average gorilla, not a hulking kaiju that can literally qualify as a skyscraper. Unless his island is just that damn bastarding HUGE he is in perspective, average. And if they wanna justify this as an "origin story", well that's still stupid too because nobody asked for it.

King Kong(And Godzilla for that matter)deserves a great next gen video game in this day and age. This, unfortunately is not it. I think the worst part about this game is not the graphics, or gameplay. It’s the wasted potential by giving it to a studio like this. It’s that if you were to take this idea on paper, Kong’s origin story, him fighting dinosaurs like he should be, and take it to a developer who could actually deliver on the premise and make an at best decent, mostly enjoyable game, both fans and non-fans of King Kong alike would’ve been satisfied. Unfortunately, Gamemill just said, “Hey, you folks. Make a Kong game. Don’t care how you do it. Just make one and get it out just in time for the new Godzilla X Kong film which won’t be arriving in theaters until Spring 2024. Chop chop. We don’t need it play tested or looked over to see if it’s in working condition. We just need it out to the masses at this specific point.”

So, that placeholder image of Gaw that shows up during the cutscene when you beat the three dinosaurs? According to Tvtropes, that's actually supposed to be Kong flashing back to Gaw killing his parents, triggered by the roar of the alpha. It's just so badly placed in that everyone thought it was a placeholder image GameMill forgot about.

I thought that might be what they were going for, but there are two problems: 1) Gaw and the Alpha look so much alike that you can't tell who it's supposed to be, 2) and I nearly stopped to record a mini rant on this: that flashback image looks like someone holding up a photograph over a background. It's a cropped image floating over a completelu different background. They still screwed it up!

I haven't played the game myself (thank god), so I'm only going by what Tvtropes says. Still, they completely screwed up. Maybe if the flashback was in motion and actually showed Gaw killing Kong's parents, it'd be clearer. As it stands, it sucks.

What makes it better is that it’s so badly placed you can see the skybox and even some terrain behind it, I haven’t seen that mistake outside of those poorly made Roblox games

I think the reason there isn't a razzie equivalent for games is because most bad games are bad for being very undercooked like the kong game. We need more games that suck for stupid and nonsensical design decisions instead of rushed develoments, like Knack, Balan or the quiet man.

Oh you got the Quarry sweet I love supermassive games they make the best games since until dawn and the quarry is a great one I played that game alot and some of my favorites in that game are definitely Travis Bobby Jedidiah and Abigail and Also another thing is that the games song selection is really wierd there's 2 different versions there's a version that plays copyrighted music while the other has one that allows you to stream and personally I like the streaming version of the games sound track better then the one with copyright music the beginning song for the game plays Ariana Grande's moonlight song which doesn't really fit the games themes while the streaming version plays a much more better song called Thorn in my side and the creaters supermassive games made a series thats based off of what the quarry is called the dark pictures anthology series is definitely something to look into man of medan is regarded as a masterpiece after until dawn little hope is the weakest entry in the series because of the plot twist at the end that might remind you of a different game if you see it house of ashes is a interesting one and has a good cast with a interesting villain and my favorite out of all of the dark pictures anthology games the devil in me is glorious all the way through and it's villain is very crazy

I was going to say yes until I realized that may be a little too harsh even for LJN. At least they had some interesting ideas for some of their titles. The term "ahead of their time" may come to mind, but at least for that time, some mechanics were unique. Even in Friday the 13th, at least you don't often get stuck because of glitches! It doesn't help GameMill's case that LJN didn't have the ability to patch out whatever technical issues they had, while GameMill games, even when they are patched are this crappy.

I have to wonder if the council bosses bugging out is related to one video I saw of the games bosses, where the player ran up to King Dengiz and it just completely stopped doing anything. I thought that was just the devs being too lazy or rushed to program some melee attacks for him, but maybe it's just a glitch that randomly causes the bosses to lose their brains.

i just finished this game on PS5 and i was able to download the patch. Only improvements i can see after this review is that you now can see where you are on the map and you can quick access the map and the skill tree from the d-pad (you'll probably still get lost cuz the game is so samey). The execution you can do to enemies is now shown above their heads and they can heal you. You also don't get stuck in walls as much (but it still happens because game sucks). That cutscene after the Council Dino boss was patched so the crappy jpeg actually fills the screen but the cutscene before had one of the dinos t-pose. There is one glitch that happened to me constantly where Kong's attacks would just stop working so i had to reload every 20 minutes and using the trees as melee weapons wouldn't work after the third boss and everytime i would attack i would get locked in place until i dropped the weapon. So the game is slightly less shit but still the most dull and repetitive game i've ever played. Gollum is better than this. GameMill is becoming the next LJN

Impressive. So they fixed the map and added the executions... but bugged the combat even worse. Thanks for the heads-up! And you could always use the D-Pad to pull up the map, skill tree, or collectibles.

I remember being disappointed about this one since I like Kaiju movies, and I like the Legendary series so far, and licensed games like this have generally fallen by the wayside (for good reason, granted). But still, a game playing as Kong on Skull Island beating up other monsters was a pretty easy sell to me. Too bad it had to be Game Mill.

Trust me Jadow, Left Alive is a blast! It's the game that made my friend who is the fan of the original franchise (Front Mission) have a mild breakdown over how bad it is, it made the both of us laugh in hysteria over how schizophrenic the story of the game is and it made me ruin my vocal chords for a week from screaming because while I was experiencing plain bullshit from the game, that friend was reading to me positive reviews of the game and people were calling it a "hidden gem". After finishing the game I felt like Punished "Venom" Snake from Metal Gear Solid 5.

Imma just throw in a barely stitched together guess; but I feel like it’s because people might’ve wanted a good Kong game, I don’t know how many Kong games there are or how many were even good. Another guess is just because it ended up being miserably developed (probably because from what I’ve heard, gamemill gave the devs peanuts for this game, not being literal here) and the cutscene where a poorly sized jpeg of gaw was just one of many examples of why this game became more talked about

There is worse than this these days (some of switch's indies are far worse than this but most are ports from pc or mobile), though it is a bad game. LOTR Golum is bad too (close to this), And the other LOTR game doesn't look good either. (shadow of mordor and war are far better) Its not the worst you can play on a ps5 (talking about the kong game), Wrath of Black tiger is worse and you can play it on a ps5 (through backwards compatibility) And you can at least say its better than Data Design Interactive's games (seriously check thrift stores, pawn shops, garage sales etc, they're full of them probably and each would make great content to review) Wii has most of their library (it does go back a ways though). And some of the DDI games (ps2 era releases that got ported to the wii) are worth some $$$ (the ps2 north american version for collectors going for full sets basically) But they'd be worth a review as well as the ps2 versions might be slightly better. But if you're seeing the PAL versions on ps2 then they're aren't worth much (just like the wii versions in NA) And oh you should review BUBSY, ALL of the bubsy games they're cheap (older ones are better) save for the Jaguar and game boy entries (Bubsy 2 on game boy isn't technically just a port, more of a spinoff) Bubsy 3D is his lowest point and is one of the worst games on the ps1 (close to the worst but its debatable) But there's also the modern era bubsy games on ps4 and switch which did receive some good reviews so it'd be a good look at the history and series. Bear in mind though that Bubsy has a mediocre at best (though the modern games are debatable if they are better than the old ones) And his fanbase has been growing a tiny bit over the years. And KEEP the voice acting on and at high volume for the best "busy" experience. He also has a cartoon pilot (not all that bad). It came with the pc enhanced port (slightly enhanced version of the original Bubsy game for windows 95, its extremely rare but does exist (Super Bubsy) You'll get quite some enjoyment out of playing through (seriously try to, all of the bubsy games can be beaten with enough sanity sacrificed to do it) The Jaguar game might not be able to be beaten via emulation(due to emulation bugs though jaguar emulation has come quite a ways as shown with the Atari 50th collection having some of them (but not bubsy) on it.

@@Darklordjadow1 forgot that you had, but i stand by that being one of the worse options than "Skull island: Rise of Kong" Even if its less technically buggy. And by my recommendations. I'm certain you'd have a raging good time with them. And i didn't mean to imply that there was a sequel (don't think there is but who knows)

Swap out The Day Before with The Walking Dead: Destinies. Day Before shut down too quickly to get a key and is issuing across-the-board refunds

Yeah, Gollum and Kong were surefire dunks but the day before I was just shooting in the dark because I didn't remember some colossal failure since iirc stuff like Redfall and Forspoken were just mid as all hell. Forgot about the walking dead: destinies.@@Darklordjadow1

My favorite part of Skull Island: Rise of Kong is when Skull Island said "It's Rising time" and Konged all over the place. In all seriousness, Game Mill can't even take credit for the Nickelodeon fighting game. That was developed by Ludosity, the creators of excellent indie games like Slap City, Card City Nights, and Ittle Dew. Anyone trying to give Game Mill credit for that is either uninformed about game development or being willfully contrarian.
