Skullz reacts to H by Tool
and dissects the lyrics
Tool is an American rock band from Los Angeles. Formed in 1990... due to Tool's incorporation of visual arts and very long and complex releases, the band is generally described as a style-transcending act and part of progressive rock, psychedelic rock, and art rock. The relationship between the band and today's music industry is ambivalent, at times marked by censorship, and the band's insistence on privacy....Tool has won four Grammy Awards, performed worldwide tours, and produced albums topping the charts in several countries.

I gotta say.... You espouse the rhetoric of an aristocrat. I've had a lot of friends give me a hard time over the years about being verbose, so it caught my eye. For some of us, it's an affliction. Also, some of us got bored and read four dictionaries in high school. 😀 Also, I noticed you use proper grammar and punctuation. (Not common on social media platforms, unless you hold office, I swear.) Just wanted to give credit where credit is due.

Wings For Marie (both parts) gets me every. single. time. Almost impossible for me. I can empathize, having lost my mother to cancer. To watch it, to witness the lengthy painful torture of a beautiful, faithful person. Maynard's pain is palpable; as an artist he expresses it beautifully.

Absolutely fucking superb! You get it.....and nailed it.....the placement of the songs is exact, the breathing being left in, the emotion they are drawing, it's super genius, it's purposeful....and whether you believe it or not...you're not even 100 miles in to 1,000,000 mile journey, THIS is the most cerebral band that has ever existed, so what do you do when parts of you die (or are killed) off? You start again, you evolve......you look for the next level, to be better.....to use your anger as a gift and when needed, to get in touch wit yourself, the damage done, your youthful anxieties......ALL of this is coming...."like a storm again".....And then you will move on to Lateralus....and I am afraid my friend that your head may explode, it's something special and I am glad to have subscribed to take the journey with you, at 55 years old...Tool Army forever

Nice to see another dedicated Tool fan in expression mode! How you enjoying the new album tour finally kicking off on their USA tour? You guys really need and deserve that, a healing, enlightening and fortifying experience which was timed to I would say perfection, unfortunately the lockdown thing got in the way. Was lucky enough to squeeze them in twice in New Zealand just before they shut it down, third and fourth time they ever played 7empest live I believe, absolutely incredible. And the set visuals and list has evolved since as it usually does and I guess it will until they settle on what they feel is the perfect progression.

Keep your family well. The Tool family and I'd say the band itself are glad your taking something away , something deep , something to keep bringing you back. beeing a Heroin addict feels deeply connected like the love to your wife or son. I always felt like betraying my wife and when my son was born I was already in recovery...never touched it again because I wanna suck in every moment unfiltered and every emotion as good as bad...but I am here to lead one of the most beautiful human beings to become an extraordinary young man. believe it or not...talking about H is a taboo in this time but this song is 100% a reference to the semi opioid Diamorphine aka H. and beeing addicted to it. when you get sober and after endless times of dying and suffering you see life very different and bury your ego. it's the darkest path you can take for sensitive person because it's consideratly killing you with love. your ego will die, you'll be reborn again and value what matters the most - it's all about the little things in life, your creation and learning from past mistakes ❤

I didn't fully understand it until I had a son of my own, now I know that the moment I learned he existed everything in my life changed. I wept, seeing you weep. I've never watched you before but connected for a moment- human to human- through the universal mind and soul we can all tap into. Tool's music is a key to that gateway. Maynard said, in his "The Art of Work" series, that as an artist, he wants to give people "something that is more than the sum of its parts." He writes lyrics that are specific but also ambiguous enough for each person to find their own meaning in them. He said that depending where a person is in their life- they may be ready to"hear" the messages or they may not. It seems that this song helped you to process some of the grief from your family's recent loss. I think it's beautiful and wonderful that you had that door unlocked for you in a moment when many others- your viewers- could share it with you. That weight will only grow lighter as more people reach out and help to lift it through their well wishes and expressions of caring. Isn't it marvelous that such a thing can be made manifest by music and art and the shared love of them??? Blessed Be!

I agree. Like Eulogy for example. People say it's about L Ron and Jesus or this or that but those are just physical manifestation of the abstract nature of the song (the genesis). The genesis of Eulogy I think is false prophets and that manifests in so many ways 💯 But thank you for you kind words. This was definitely a hard video to record and edit and then I almost didn't release it. But, like I said to someone else in the comments, how can I tell people it's ok to be vulnerable and open if I don't leadf by example and so that thought made me commit to releasing it. I started this channel to connect with people and this video is doing that so its a victory to me. Much love ❤

I used to be a huge fan of Tool, but then as years passed, I kind of grew out of it. One year ago, I lost my soul animal. I stopped listening to music altogether. Today I just decided to listen to this song again (it's one of my favorite Tool songs). It was an enjoyable yet shallow listen. Was recommended this video. I have to say, you've just helped me feel music like I haven't in years. I've been kind of numb & your react helped me get in touch with feelings I had long forgotten. You reminded me of how I used to feel listening to Tool when I wasn't so dead inside. Thanks to you, I'm going to try & listen to all of Tool & try to feel the songs again. You are not wrong about the album evolving, including next song which i literally about evolving (46&2). It is all about cleansing the old self, dealing with poison relationships (with different actors H [Dad and Son] , Jimmy[with his mom], Pushit[lover], HWAP[Haters]) flushing it all away (Aenima), and opening to a new experience (3rd eye) - which transitions into Laterlatus nicely

Very few people get this much out of a first listen. I feel that H, Jimmy, and 46 & 2 are a kind of Jungian Trilogy about incorporating your shadow and taking inventory of generational trauma in order to fix himself...in order to not do damage to his son. It is TOTALLY in line with Aion era Carl Jung (which even the title of the album is based on) It also reminds me of a line from a poem by Robert Penn Warren "This is the process whereby pain of the past, in it's pastness, may be converted into the future tense of joy".

This reaction and the reactions you've in general had with Tool have been great. I've grown up with this band and all thoughts and ideas revovling around them have been mixed with emotions of ones own - without knowing the real meaning behind the lyrics or the intent. I've heard tears to these songs which are not based on my own experiences and feelings, but I've also later seen that honestly - everything I've felt has been linked through a subliminal or denied emotion. It's sad to hear of your loss and the pain you've had to endure. It's lovely to see the impact their life had on yours on how you honor them with your direct emotions. Thank you for sharing

Maynard when questioned on the song's meaning: "So, eh, any of you ever watched those Warner Bros. cartoons? Sometimes there’s that one where that guy is having a tough time trying to make a decision. He’s got an angel on one shoulder, the devil on the other. Seems pretty obvious, right? Usually, the angel’s the one that’s kind of, give the good advice, the devil is trying to get him to do what’s going to be bad for him. It’s not always that simple though. Most times they’re like not really angels or devils, they’re just friends, giving you advice, looking out for your best interest, but not really understanding what’s going to be best for you. So, it kinda comes down to you, you have to make the decision yourself."

Great reaction. Don’t apologize for feeling something. It’s nice to know there are people that still feel. This song hits me that way often. I don’t mind. Peace and love to you and yours. ✌🏼
