Honestly being a fan of Tool for many years, and Maynard. His writing style is very interesting and describes such in his interviews. I think he writes the lyrics with a feeling or emotion in mind that the music brings him. If you didn't know, that's how the band does it. The record the song, then Maynard listens to it, and makes the lyrics. They almost walk into the studio with no idea what kind of vocals Maynard is going to add to the project. Much like many artists and their art, I'm not sure the song has sole specific meaning; it's a feeling Maynard had while writing it. As someone who writes poetry, for example, I always hate it when people ask what's between the lines, or does it mean. The reason why is they're asking what it means to me, and the more important question is, what does it mean to you? There might be some songs with direct confrontation as having to deal with personal life or political statements, but aside from that is pretty much meant to be interpreted by the observer. I think Maynard has said as much in his interviews as well. Now you do have songs like Hooker with a Penis that's about his irritation with...I believe it was a journalist interviewing him or something like it. Then his song Judith from A Perfect Circle, which is inspired by his mother dying. The secret track on Undertoe was mostly inspired by the band tripping on acid and their Manger leaving a message trying to mess with them. Third Eye on Aenema was also inspired by a hallucinogenic experience. Actually the godess mentioned in the lyrics is a godess associated with tripping on hallucinogens. Maynard and band mates of Tool don't do any of that stuff anymore, aside from alcohol which Maynard has his own Vinyard and winery in California (I think). I've had a few friends buy some of his wine and they tell me it's really good. Maynard seems to be highly spiritual, but not in a Christian way; More paganostic or new age-ish. He's a very interesting guy and would love to have a conversation with him some day and just pick his brain, but alas I don't think that will happen. Ultimately, what you say the songs mean are what they mean, because that's what they mean to you. When I listen to them, I darrive a different meaning and that's also true, because that's what they mean to me. That's one of the mystical beauties of art, and creation.

Grew up with Limp Bizkit. My old man liked them a lot too. Gotta say, this is the first song of theirs I am gonna add to my playlist after a loooong time. Been stuck with their old stuff and this is very liberating. Great reaction vid too, mate. Keep it up.

Two rare/uncommon voices there. Mitch is a counter tenor. Avi dark hair and beard is a basso profundo and may reach subsonic notes

It's clear that they wrote this song as if it was going to be on Lateralus, but they didn't put it on there. They perfected it and then they put it directly in front of the worst tool song on the worst tool album. Vicarious and Rosetta Stoned are the only tracks I listen to on that album anymore.

I have watched a LOT of reactions to this clip. It is entertaining to see people respond with ecstasy to the incredible talent and production with that extra factor that comes thru . They always 1. are impressed with the quality in the first 10 seconds , 2. smile at the clave player and what he adds. 3. love the piano arrangement. 4. wait to see if the vocalist will do well, and are completely hooked by the chorus. This clip captured lightning in a bottle. Kudos to the mix and edit engineers. The sum is greater than the parts and is a moment in time for all these musicians. It continues to be a clip that holds up over time and gives hope for grown ups that young folks can, with support and a little direction & someone putting faith in them, achieve amazing things.

Fabulous reaction to my all time favorite Tool song. One of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written. Of ANY genre. I wish I could thank Maynard for writing it and allowing us to share in it. I really really do. If I ever met him… I think that would be the only thing I’d say to him before I left him the hell alone. Ha.

IMO: 10,000 Days is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written. It’s a beautifully haunting requiem that takes you thru every layer of loss: the sadness and despair and grief but also the rage. Every time I hear it, I thank the universe that Maynard wrote it and shared it with us

"Wondering when this tug of war will end." Perfect criticism of man: the tug of war - not like the game, but the NEED for war. And the ability for man to use reason but the choice to abandon that for emotion? Again, perfect.

We come in pure. We first see the stone to build, and we use fire to warm us and light the way; however, we then use stones and fire as weapons to isolate ourselves. Awesome song.

It's a great commentary on the human condition, but there is one line that changes things a bit: "While the mother holds her child, watches him die, hands to the sky pleading, 'Why oh why?' Cause I need to watch things die from a distance." It's the question and answer that let us know who the narrator really is: God. We mirror our creator.

I always dealt with mental health issues in my life. When i was struggling most and on the brink of "giving up," i only stayed because i knew how it would affect people around me if i left. I always viewed this song as choosing to stay here on earth, knowing you can leave at any time.

It's pretty apparent to me that the song is about certain corrupt con-artist politicians you know corrupt, lying, manipulative politicians and very very rich and influential persons. the HUGE " elephant in the room" and the cults of the "red baseball caps" whose brains have turned into maggots... you should get WHOM I'm referring to. This song isn't about fear per se, but those IN POWER that USE FEAR to influence people. . . . . .
