The reliability of BMW electronics, don't you just love them! Reminds me of 1970s Suzuki electronics. And yet BMW throw more and more electronics at all their bikes. I suppose they've got to give customers a reason to trade in once the warranty has expired!!!

Bruce out with the spanners and in his own garage 🤔 Nice easy fix and a bit of weight saving on the bike. I replaced my FZ1 exhaust system last year (Andy Man Cam can’t ze Germans don’t like it) for a full Delkevic system. Left the motor but removed the cables that go down through the bike otherwise it errors. Will check to see if they do something similar for the FZ1

Can you imagine the number of bikes knocking around with aftermarket pipes or deleted exup valves, let alone classics for which no "oem" parts are available? Crazy. Good to know there's a solution that works at last for the flapper valve.

Hi again mate. My question from a while back regarding what the servo does, was worded stupidly. And now that i am the proud owner of a 1250 (which has the servo installed), i am still confused by its purpose. Do you know if it is solely related to engine braking ability... or is it blended in to the shift cam system, allowing more exhaust under variable valve depression? The fact you have this on the 1200 engine, makes me think it is all about volume and engine braking... ??? If you dont know... no harm. I will just ask the blokes i bought her from :)
@teapotone
@teapotone 4 жыл бұрын
I don’t know the full technicalities of it - my understanding is it’s mainly for emissions purposes and as such by removing it you release more of the potential of the engine.
@oOLLOYDOSOo
@oOLLOYDOSOo 4 жыл бұрын
A exhaust servo serves a few purposes, it makes the bike quieter at lower rpm and increases midrange torque. It also increases back pressure and richens the engine in the mid range to reduce emissions. The reason most exhaust manufacturers do away with a servo on their systems is because in most cases this also reduces high end horse power due to the restriction in the exhaust. Hope this helps 👍🏼
@RomasQuicker
@RomasQuicker 4 жыл бұрын
@@oOLLOYDOSOo Dyno charts show it doesn't increase torque in any circumstances. Its a myth. Its purpose is solely for sound emissions.

Its an old problem from the 1200 days caused by poor design that should have been resolved years ago and I believe its only there for the EU emissions regulations when on tick over.Some riders use a high temp grease on the exhaust flap bearings but it still goes eventually.
@teapotone
@teapotone 4 жыл бұрын
You actually get this issue with just about every single bike out there which has an exhaust/butterfly vale and is ridden in all weathers. As you say Andi, it’s a poor design of locating this part generally at one of the lowest points of the bike, right down near all the crap coming up of the road etc. Yep it’s there for emissions standards, and lubing/greasing the valve/flap intermittently can aid the issue👍

+Gordy's Goodworks no not in either way to be honest - the bike just breathes better, the throttling feels ‘spicier’ and more dynamic - that may just be because the bike sounds amazing now so you automatically feel like it’s better. I’ve also had both my GS’s taken to Hilltop and Geoff has worked his magic on them, so they’re certainly more of an animal to a stock GS.
