The timing is impeccable! The acting superb as well. Having that distance from the elevator to Bond and to say all that was scripted to a perfect halt is just a taste of great well performed and experienced acting.

Crazy as it is, they accidentally did something similar......Adam talked about it when asked if there were any myths that they tested which weren't shown. He hesitantly went on to talk about how they were testing the myth revolving around certain mother's arguments against sugary breakfast cereal, which is that the cardboard packaging was more nutritious than the cereal......So, they bought some mice and made three groups of mice.....Their control group, which were only fed regular food pellets for mice, the ones which were only fed cereal, and from what he said, *very* happy to do so.......and, finally, the group of mice, which were only fed these special pellets Jamie made from the ground up cardboard from some cereal boxes. Apparently, for the first few days, things went well, but after a while, they noticed that the group of mice being fed cardboard pellets were acting strangely, but didn't think much on it until they returned the next day to find a rather grizzly sight in their cage.........They found the bloody, skeletal remains of most of the mice and one rather fat mouse! Adam said it looked it had eaten them in a similar manner to the way most humans eat corn from the cob! They were then told by Discovery to terminate their experiment and *not* to show any of the footage!

I love that creepy little chittering noise he does with the line "they start eating each other." It's like an updated version of the Hannibal Lecter slurping sound that Anthony Hopkins does.

That's even what Silva tells him: join us. It's almost as if they were children: "Leave Mommy (M) and you can be a big kid like me, doing your own missions and having all the toys you want." There was just so much psychological tension between the two, it's insane. In the end, it's hard to know what other motives Silva had excluding finding and killing M, because he seemed to throw so much in the way of Bond to throw him off and keep him clueless or unprepared.

I think of them both as the two rats/survivors. Even though it isn't on purpose, Tanner alludes to this when he is walking Bond through the new HQ, and he says something to the effect of them still finding tunnels down there that they never knew existed, and that it's all quite interesting, apart from the rats. Kind of gives a nod to the upcoming rats that will chase one another through the tunnels that nobody else knows about: Bond and Silva.

This is a great scene. I've watched it many times but it just hit me. If you caught all the rats why would you need 2 cannibal rats on the island?
@jameskobegonzalez52284 жыл бұрын
To kill any remaining rats that are left in the island and any rats to come over in boats another words those 2 rats are exterminators waiting for the rats to come to the island

Ok several questions arise here: 1. Wouldn't the rats die of dehydration in the drum? There's not a clean water source in it. Are they subsisting on the blood of the rats they're eating? 2. "They only eat rat" is all well and good, but you said yourself that there are only two rats left. Maybe one rat eats the other, but eventually the remaining rat(s) would have to learn to subsist on other things simply because there wouldn't be other rats around. So even if you managed to train cannibalism into these rats, they'd lose that instinct almost as quickly would they not? 3. An island that it takes a human being an hour to walk around is rather large for a rat. You're relying on just one drum to capture all of them? I'd wager there's at least one rat out there relaxing with coconuts on the other side of the island.

I think the whole point was that if you burn them there will be still a shit ton of them left, so that's why you release the last two... to get rid of every other rat.

Indeed, you said well. I just don't trust Silva like that. Maybe he thought he could get Bond to ally with him as a fellow rat, but even among two rats one will try to get more cheese than the other. There really is no honor among thieves, if you will. And rats are creatures of prey. I didn't think Silva was satisfied with being prey but rather be the predator. He was once the rat but now the cat.

Which makes sense. Silva thought he could convince Bond to join him, but James' nature isn't changed, unlike Raoul. They were both seen as expendable by the same person, but of course Bond, initially pissed off at M, became forgiving of her. Silva on the other hand, his nature had been changed, like his name, his face, and his mind through months of insidious torture. Trapped in cage, like a rat in a oil drum.

Personally I loved this movie and this is by far my favourITE scene. This is going to sound unrelated but I hate English, however. From what I learnt in English, when the evil guy was walking from a distance and saying the rat story, you could hear loud echoes of his voice, this could represent the large numbers of rats in the house. However when the story came to an end with only 2 rats, the echoes faded. Could the echoes have represented the vast amount of rats? I could just sound like a crazy mofo bit it just got me thinking, NY suggestions?

The imagery of the lattice of the networking switching cables and Silva slowly walking towards Bond through the middle, tied in his chair, makes me think more of a preying spider. I think that whole rat story was just a false pretense. In no way are they equals. Bond was the insect who is a slave to his own nature, and Silva would think of himself as the spider. In Silva's opinion, Bond is stupidly shortsighted not to see that he is not the one playing the game but the game is playing him.

I think it's better they left the betrayal obscure. The whole sacrificing him for Bond is such a clichéd device. Most of what makes it great is that Silva is a villain from the woodworks, and only by chance does he survive and run into Bond on his way of revenge. The whole lesser pupil story's been seen more over that a little obscurity can be refreshing.

Is it better or worse that, if any of these guys had a normal vocation, they might grow up to be Jeffery Dahlmer instead of Bond Supervillains? Maybe it's all M's fault, after all. Orphans do make the best recruits.

he is one of the better villains, although it would have been a better story if they showed more of the betrayal...or M sacrificed him for Bond, and he felt like Kane from the bible. It had that but i thought they should have elaborated more on it.
