@marcio50 A sail in one side of the blimp, to negociate against or for the wind, as the boats do, it is possible because the sail is only in one side of the blimp and you can use the bladder to negociate with the wind and the thrust that pushes the blimp from the side of the sail. I know that a ballon cannot deal with the wind because the ballon is carried by the wind, but by a sail in one side you can negociate somewhat with that wind, and by the bladder.

@marcio50 No if you put at the end of the mast that support the sail ( in one of the sides of the blimp) an adittional small helium blimp to stand the weight of the mast. Of course, in hard winds the blimp will follow the wind but , as it happens with sailing at sea, the sail and the game with the rudder will allow some control of the direction, because the sail in the blimp affects only one side of the blimp .

@marcio50 We do use a "sail" on a anchored blimp. A triangular sail is attached to the "equator" of the ballon, hanging upside down. As the wind blows and forces the sphere DOWN, also hits the sail and forces it UP, making the entire gadget achieve the equilibrium. Theoreticaly, the harder the wind blows, the higher is the pressure UP. Works like a charm and it amazes people with "normal" spherical blimps.

Very nice, have you tried to put a sail on a side of the blimp, style polynesian boat, to see if the blimp can deal with the wind as the sailers do ?

@metacosmos A sail? never crossed my mind... I'm not sure if I grasped your concept... A sail to help it fly against the wind? or in favor of it?

@metacosmos But, in a RC blimp it would not work. A sail only will make harder for the blimp to find its desired direction, and also, we would need a mast or something to position the sail in different wind situations, making the blimp too heavy.

@metacosmos@metacosmos Your logic is tricking me... Am I missing something??? A sail in a boat only works because the rudder is inside the water and the resultant force between wind direction, rudder direction and sail direction determines the final direction of the craft. On a blimp, BOTH (the sail and the rudder) would be on the air. As the wind direction enters the equation, the resultant would be always favoring towards wind direction.

Marcio Zaidan well, this is not a comercial vehicle or that it needs license, so it may fly with hydrogen, dont you? hydrogen cost 10 times less than helium (at least outside US) plus many other benefics. Helium is at not renewable resource, we already consume half of the helium on earth.

AngelLestat2 Dear AngelLestat2 This is a essentially a commercial airship! Otherwise, how I could make money with it? If we do use hydrogen, all the procedures and materials are to be changed by security reasons. We do fly this ships above 5,000, 10,000 people, mostly in big events and security is a must. The handling of hydrogen is very complicated and most of the Cities fire departments would never give us permission.

You are right, is funny I watch the video again in my second responce and I notice that I was wrong about comercial. First I thought that was only a prototype searching applications. You did an amazing work. In case someone wants to do it with hydrogen, it will be hard to find an envelope structure not flamable and able to contain the h2? I understand that it will need to be purified once in a while.

Hydrogen is not unsafe as many people think. The blimp will not just explode or pop into flames in mid air, you need a mix with oxygen to do that. And even if it does burn, the flames and the hydrogen will go up, away from the people bellow. The myth that zeppelins with hydrogen are unsafe is largely due to the hindenburg disaster, but that was caused by the compound used to paint the bladder, not by the hydrogen gas within. The materials would need to be changed since hydrogen will leak very easily, but it would be 20x cheaper. Hydrogen is not only cheaper, but it's also less dense than helium so you'll need less gas.
