Agreed! I remember I cried when we had the hot August sun shining brightly. I told myself I was never going to complain about hot August days again. A week of cloudy skies and nonstop rain changed everything.

It was very hard to see people's livelihood gone at an instant. I lived in it and through it and am truly grateful. Houstonians always come together through crisis. Harvey was devastating. My one brother's house was flooded. What some people don't realize, Harvey made landfall close to Corpus Christi and moved up the Texas coast. Pretty much the entire coastline was flooded from Corpus all the way into Louisiana. Devastating flooding. I lived and still live about 35 miles northeast of Houston. At one point my small town was at the top of the list for most rainfall. It was unreal how fast the water rose! And it was so cold, which is unusual for hurricane temps. 4 1/2 years later and there are still some people trying to recover.

My house was flooded by Harvey. I was only 7 and I have a little brother that was only 4 at that time. It took around 2-3 weeks to find a house. We lived at my grandma's house. We found a apartment and a lot of my family stuff was ok but we still lost a lot. I almost cry thinking about that day. I had to walk in the flood water. We called for help a few times but no one came. My family is good know and have been living in the apartment for 3 years know

It was a nightmare for me. My spouse was ordered to work the night it started and was not able to get back into Houston for over a week later, leaving me stranded at home alone the entire time. I did the best I could to save our home. We were so much more fortunate than others. Just 3 blocks from the house flooding was at 6 ft yet somehow it didn't reach mine. I prayed the whole time and felt that God put his arms around me keeping me safe. Soon after we moved away from Houston to be more inland.

Houston lies on a fairly flat plain. During Harvey it rained so much that the bayous that empty into the Gulf couldn’t carry the water fast enough to keep the bayous from overflowing their banks. The Addicks and Barker Reservoirs were built to mainly protect western and downtown Houston. They work by collecting the water upstream and then releasing the water into the bayou in a controlled manner. Harvey dumped so much water that water was spilling into the bayou at an uncontrolled rate and they had to open the floodgates more because the dam was threatening to breach. If the dam had broken during Harvey, thousands more would have died. The Army Corps of Engineers has a very tough decision to make during Harvey and I believe they made the correct choice. They chose to sacrifice homes immediately downstream from the reservoirs in order to limit the amount of flooding that could have been done if the dam broke.

So devastating & sad. When the governor says " Our infrastructure is designed for a 100 year flood"...that's a problem. Now they have a once in 1000 year flood. Why would anyone build a whole city in a massive flood plain? Every one donate $$$...they are going to need it.

I lived through tropical storm Allison. When I saw the forecast models I told everyone that I could to leave the Houston area. I warned them that it would be like Katrina but basically everyone had the same attitude. They felt like it wouldn't be nearly that bad. I got the hell out of there as I live near Katy and went to Alabama. Could only watch in horror on tv like everyone else. Took 8 days before I was able to come back home

This is why homeowners insurance and flood insurance were invented - people in Houston are used to do this, we get serious storms all the time, we know that in May we must stock up and prepare. As always the question is do we and why people do not

I thank God Harvey didn't effect my house like Ike did in 2008. Ike had my lights off for almost two months my lights were on during Harvey but I couldn't get past a mile driving away from my neighborhood.

I went to work the day before Harvey hit. I worked at a doggie hotel and the dogs were acting strange staring at the sky like they knew something was coming! Luckily I made it home safe and road out the storm!

I heard they opened the Levies. Anyone know if that's true? I did hear a lady on the news make a comment to that affect. She was upset because their were people left behind, and were told someone would be back for them. They never went back, and folks died because of it. Can anyone verify that story? It would be appreciated. Thanks✌ 5/11/20
