As a native Houstonian we thank all the civilians and the Cajun navy for rescuing and being HEROES. While it was horrible and some past, it was Humanity at its best, no politics no race, everyone helping everyone.

Houston and New Orleans have such a special relationship from their shared tragedies. I remember the mayor of New Orleans saying after Katrina that if Houston was ever in that kind of trouble, New Orleans would be the first to lend their help. They’ve either come or sent supplies for every flood since. Not long after Harvey, New Orleans had a tropical storm. You couldn’t drive a single block in Houston without seeing signs for one of the many donation drives benefiting New Orleans.

Looking back on this in '23, I really thank the Cajun Navy for rescuing me and my family! God bless you guys for all that you do. We may have lost material things, but we were saved...that's all that matters. Also, shout out to Mattress Mack!! He did an outstanding job helping Houston!

I am not an American citizen but working in Houston. For 2 weeks, we are trying our best to volunteer. Damages caused by Harvey is beyond what is shown here. We went to Sierra Sugarland, Kathy and few more places around Houston. It would take months for most of the houses to be rebuilt with FEMA running out of money and unfortunately Hurricane Irma along with few more are on it's way. Many houses are beyond repair and planned to be demolished in Kathy. God bless US.

I was there, right in Beaumont. Got pounded for days. My sister passed away during this time so my entire family was there and had noting... We couldn't do anything for anybody except watch the water rise. We lost water service and ran out of food... Still, we did what we could and stayed together and survived. Everybody helped their neighbors and helped strangers.... That was the lesson there. People need to help people. We'll get by..

We live North of Houston, in an area that was badly damaged by Harvey. I've lived here my whole life and never seen the water so high. It's a very rural area, my street is a 3 mile road with only about 10 houses. My cousin and good friend lived on either side of me. We had driven down the street to see how high the water had risen; the last time we had looked it was about 5 feet over the road at the low point. When we made it to this point, there was a car with almost the whole front end submerged. When we walked up to it, there was a young woman crying in her car. She was here from Africa visiting family. Driving from Houston to Lufkin, she had somehow made it down our street and got lost. Thinking since she had made it in okay, she tried to go back through, but it was too deep. She was so terrified. She didn't know anyone here and barely spoke English. She was just sitting on her car crying, water almost level with the bottom of the drivers seat. We pulled her out of the car and put her in my truck. We took our jackets and gave them to her to dry off with in the truck while the three of us spent almost an hour pushing that damn car up the road and out of the water. We left it on the side of the road and took her to our homes, where she stayed for a week until the roads were cleared to drive her to her family in Lufkin. We still keep in touch with her on Facebook. She was a very sweet woman and was so grateful we were there for her, I'm glad we were too.

Watching this never gets old. Cajun navy was and continues to be a godsend. So proud to call Louisiana my neighbor.

It's over. They will never get rid of the mold that will haunt them for the next 30+ years. I've seen houses in flooded neighborhoods before and I'm telling you the mold will just start to reappear even after new sheet rock and paint. It is a nightmare.

Its been almost 3 weeks, we lost everything and seeing the rescue videos put me in tears, it was a day we will never forget ☹️

I'm in Texas right now in the aftermath of Harvey is devastating

I was in MD Anderson during this. Most surreal time I have experienced. Even now it brings very strong emotions from me.

As a native Houstonian, this is why we are the greatest city on earth. We have the strongest spirit and resilience of anybody. They said we would never be the same and almost 2 years later we are stronger than ever.

Hope all affected by Hurricane harvey make a speedy recovery. Please send any help you can to families in need.

Im happy to say even people from my home state nebraska also went down to help. I now live in austin and i myself went down to help. I was always raised to help others regardless if they need the help or not.

So thankful for the resilience of people. Feeling for them all as they rebuild their lives again. It happened so fast!

As always, Texas and surrounding states work together to help each other out. We show the world how to work together... everytime. Blessed to be a Texan!

almost started to cry seeing these videos. The only good thing I saw was the love in the human spirit and the need to help others.

I am from San Antonio and we went down to Houston with our jet ski’s and the entire drive down there we contemplated to turn around as the weather was getting worse but we knew we had to go help out our fellow Texans knowing they would do the same for us. Came back terribly sick The water was so cold and it was impossible to stay dry

Me and some of my friends had gone to Texas and helped them, the scene was horrible. I found some other fellow helpers too

I was at work during this. I work for the city itself, I was stranded at work for 3 days. It was near impossible for me to go home without running the risk of flooding my car out. It was surreal. Thank god that the McDonald's on Westheimer and Chimney Rock that decided to open.

I spent 2 days helping to pull families out with my kayak and being a born and raised Houstonian, I'm wasn't surprised to see EVERYONE lending a helping hand. That's just who we are as Texans!

Right now solar flowers would be great to get particularly the small towns to give them an energy source. I hope Houston doesn't continue to build at the rate that is expected. Concrete and asphalt exacerbates flooding problems.

I was in Vidor, tx when Harvey came. Our house did not flood, but the same can not be said for our neighbors. We offered to help people on the way out but we were kicking ourselves for not having a boat. I remember watching the water rise up and over Brookhollows gate and all I could think was "these people won't have anything to come home to".

Our house is up off the ground and I remember watching the hurricane that night while my family was sleeping and seeing the water just keep rising and I woke them all up cuz even though we were feet off the ground the water was touching the bottom of the house and coming up through the porch and I thought oh crap its not gonna stop.. and I just sat there praying and praying and it finally stopped right before it came in.. if I walked down off the porch into my driveway/ yard.. it was up past my waist to my chest pretty much.. I lived in southeast Texas my whole life and I never would thought it get that bad.. I know there would be some flooding but like the normal usual amount.. I still remember sitting there trying to see in the dark thinking my eyes were tricking me and got a flashlight to see that it was in fact flooding and I couldn't believe how fast it seemed like that water rise.. and I just kept thinking omg please don't be like Katrina.. plz let the water stop rising.. finally it did.. Years later and there's still damage to the house and stuff in the yard and nothing I can do about it..

I was born in Baytown, TX and grew up in Cedar Bayou. I haven't lived there since 1963 and was there in 1961 when Hurricane Carla hit. Cedar Bayou is just a small community located on the Cedar Bayou River. To think over 50 inches of rain was dropped there by Hurricane Harvey is unimaginable. The most rain ever in the history of the U.S. When I lived there it was just small moderate houses in a rural area. Now very high end homes line the banks of Cedar Bayou. The home I lived in since birth is still there and in January this year I drove the 800 miles from where I now live to visit friends. I drove to see that home and it was gutted of dry wall but looks like the current owner intends on rebuilding it. Houston are was lucky not to have the winds but days of rain and flooding caused extensive damage. One thing I know about Texans they are strong and will rebuild with or without outside help.

I was sleeping in my house chilling throughout all this didn't realize

I miss the storm it did damage but it brought all of us together and made the rest of 2017 and on to 2018 good years for us

Every time hurricane season comes around I think of Harvey. My family and I were lucky to not get any damage but I know many who did. I hope we are spared this time around

Its so sad that this many people have to go through this. I'm watching this because a category four is coming my way. The worst part is I live in a 1 story house. I'm like a lot of other people I like when it rains or maybe one or two inches of floods. Even a small hurricane possibly category 2 gets me excited. This category four hurricane coming up gets me kind of scared. :(

My thing is why didn’t they tell us to evacuate

The sad pro is that FEMA didn't help as much as we hoped tons of people got denied help me and my family got over 6 ft of water and still got denied help but I love how after all the country was going through we still stood together to help one another

I was literally in the neighborhood after harvey @ 6:04... That is not bad,,, at all .. In brookside we got hit with at least 4 ft, shit was scary as fuck

Me watching this in shock and amazed at how high the water was 👁👄👁 when I was there and I got flooded as well lmao.

When the guy said “worst I’ve ever seen it” he was not lying!!! People who’ve never ever flooded before were neck deep in their own house. Me, my mom and brother and his family had to go through the bayou (!!!) to escape and get to safety. The boats picked up a couple people but never came back

Wow that would be awful to loose all your possessions in a flood, and then loose your house to a fire as well.

I was looking at these things think where does the water go in the ground right? You have it all covered it might not have been so bad uncover the ground.

It was maybe one of the worst storms that came to Houston next to tropical storms Allison and hurricane's Rita and Ike parts of the city are still in need of help repairing #Houstonstrong
