It's always that our team was too young and we bottled it when in reality, it was the young players that dragged us through the season and it was the older and more experienced players who let us down like Cedric, Holding, Laca and Partey (with his injury record). Funny how that was narrative last season but no one is making what should be a justifiable song and dance about that same young team doing what they're doing at the moment and setting a 100 point pace so far.

@@thomasjolley3696 Compared to who? Liverpool? Chelsea? I would say those teams have been particularly unlucky. We had Partey out early in the season AND his backup, Elneny, at the same time. This made us very quickly change what we were doing at the end of the transfer window maybe costing us the opportunity to do what we had originally planned and even then we failed to sign the player we wanted (Douglas Luiz). We dealt with it though and lost our only game this season to united during this time. We've lost Jesus now but we've dealt with it. We haven't had Zinchencko for the majority of the season but we've dealt with it. We've had ESR out basically all season. Vieira was injured as soon as he came in. Reiss Nelson has been out for a good period of time now and he was our only real viable rotation for the wings. Tomi hasn't been able to feature either because of recurring injury problems. I'd say the only reason our injury problems haven't been worse is because 6 of probably our best 11 either didn't go to the world cup or had little to no game time.

If Arsenal win, say, 13 of their final 19 games (well below their current form), United would have to win 17 of their remaining 18 games in order to have a chance at finishing above them (and that's assuming Arsenal don't draw any of the 6 games they don't win). When Thiago is covering the most ground, making the most tackles and interceptions in a Jurgen Klopp team, then you know the Midfield is shattered. While I love players like Elliot and Carvalho in the deeper mid role, they simply don't have the physicality and legs that someone like Wijnaldum, younger Henderson and Milner, even Emre Can, in-form Fab that make a klopp system wit flying fullbacks work. Henderson used to cover Trent when he went forward, same with Wijnaldum and Mane for Robbo, we just don't have those legs right now. I hope we bring in at least one box to box before the window ends.
