Another new airline for the channel! Flair Airlines! Now, I don't usually "review" airlines. My channel isn't about how good or bad a particular airline is. It's really more about the aviation itself and my passion for sharing my love of commerical aviation and travel with everyone else. That said, I will always tell people if I enjoyed flying on an airline or not. I just don't usually bash any airlines for bad flights, especially if the bad experience was caused by something outside of their control. So in this case I really enjoyed my flight with Flair. The only thing I'd like to add though is that Flair was very, very particular about bags and their size. This isn't uncommon for ULCC's, but I had never seen an airline go to the lengths Flair did to ensure no one was getting a bag onboard for free that they didn't pay for. This didn't affect me at all as I had paid for my carry-on when I booked the flight. This is simply more of a head up if any of you watching this have a Flair Airlines fight coming up. They will measure and weight both your personal item and carry-on. So you've been warned 😂. Overall this flight was on time, the crew was nice, and I had the seat next to me open, so I have nothing to complain about 😂.

OK, confession time for me. I've been to Vancouver many times, but I've never been to YVR airport. Wow. LOTS of good news here. Good view of the UBC campus. Good view of the Coast Mountains. They're technically part of the Cascade range. You have the North Cascades which continue up into Canada. On the other side of the Fraser River are the other part of the Canadian Cascades which make up the southern half of the Coast Mountains. Silverthrone Mountain is the north end and Bella Coola is just beyond the northern limit of the Canadian Cascades. Anyhow, good views of the East side of VI and of the Gulf Islands. There's Gabriola Island. Valdes Island. Galiano Island. Pender Island. Mayne Island. Saltspring Island. Parker Island. Prevost Isalnd. Moresby Island. There's Stuart Island on the US side. Good view of Swartz Bay and Sidney. Good view of the Saanich Peninsula. There's Btrentwood and there's Butchart Garden. There's Sidney Island and there's Victoria. And there are the Chatham Islands. Good view of Henry Island on the US side. This is where the Seattle Yacht Club is in the San Juans. Good view of Dungeness Spit. Good view of Sequim. This is the driest place in Western WA, only 15 inches a year. Great views of the Olympics!! There's Mt. Olympus, Mt. Constance and The Brothers. There's Hurricane Ridge. Good view of the Hood Canal and Tahuya. Good view of the Key Peninsula. There's Harstine Island. And there's MacNeil and Anderson Islands. MacNeil is where the prison used to be before they closed it down. Good views of the Willipas. There's the Columbia River!! Very good views of Mt. Jefferson and the Sisters.

Just recently spent time there in beautiful YVR and environs. Nice views upon taking off of downtown Vancouver to the north, and just after the left turn, to the right had great views of Victoria and the Olympic Peninsula, along with it's Hurricane Ridge mountains. Very lovely takeoff and beautiful scenery of the PNW. Whenever I fly from Vancouver, I'm always conflicted as to which side to sit on. If taking off to the west, the view on the right side is more scenic than the left but on the way down, the view on the left is better especially since I fly into SFO.

Hi Traveler !! In your honor, at this overnight hour, I am feasting on a bag of Rold Gold Pretzels and drinking my Can of Coke in a plastic cup !!! he he he he Sheesh, it's like rolling all the way out to the Reef Runway in Honolulu !! You'd need to De-Ice a second time, when you finally reached the head of the runway, in the Winter, I'm sure !! Over the river and through the woods to Grandmother's house we go !!! It's May 12th, on that day, and I can see SNOW on the mountain peaks !!! I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that the huge peak you are flying over at 1:02:03 is Mount Rainier - National Park ?? The flight path, hugs Mount Rainier flying South. Mount Hood is farther South, and farther West than the prescribed flight path on the map. That's if this flight is flying the Google Maps route I am looking at right now. I wanna say that's Mount Adams (is closer to the flight path) or Mount St. Helen's (But she's farther West) in the distance, as they are the next peaks, flying south !! 1:27:44. Once you cross the Hood River, Mount Hood will appear on the west side of the aircraft, which you are seated on. Mount Jefferson is next, to the West of flight path. South Sister, then Mount Bachelor, Paulina Peak, to the West again. Yeah, once the plane reaches this point, you are too far East for the rest of the Southbound Peaks. I bet this pilot is a Snow Maniac !! He's been skimming that cloud bank for a long time, must think its SNOW !!! ha ha ha ha Daytime Flight Rules apply, Westbound Landing ... Well, I thoroughly enjoyed this flight and the Geography Lesson that came with it, I hope you enjoyed the effort as well.
@sla31
@sla31 Ай бұрын
So Mt. Rainier is never acutally visible in this video. We were still to the west of that whole area when we flew past, so I was on the wrong side to see it. Definitely parts of the national park, for sure, but unfortunately no Mt. Rainier. At 48:34 you can see Mt. Saint Helens right in front of the engine. And then the mountain you can see at 1:02:02 is Mt. Jefferson. This flight had a bit of a wonky flight path that included a more southeastern track for the first half than just straight south. So it is all the same mountains, you're just seeing them sooner than you think on each one because the starting reference isn't the one you think it is because of the track we took. You can actually see the collapsed side of Mt. Saint Helens here pretty good based on the track and that's pretty interesting. I'm glad you enjoyed this on my friend!
@jeremy1350
@jeremy1350 Ай бұрын
@@sla31 Hello, Well I was way off on my geography. Yeah, I see Mt. St. Helen's there. You were already farther south, and east, than when I picked up the "Peak" geography. Because I had Mount Rainier at the hour mark, and Mount St., Helens came at the 48 minute mark. So that flight was not flying the map I was looking at. But it was all good fun, trying to figure out where you were, and the possible peaks you were flying over. I wonder how I totally missed that mountain ?? maybe it was bed time for me !!

That is a long taxi, how big is the airport. Just checked Google maps, runway layout looks a bit Heathrow-ish 😊
@sla31
@sla31 Ай бұрын
Well, YVR covers 3,311 acres of land. To put that into perspective, Heathrow sits on 3,033 acres. So it's a good bit larger than Heathrow, although I suspect there is a lot more open land here haha. To give you another idea, DEN is the largest airport in the USA and the second largest in the world and it sits on nearly 34,000 acres. No that's not a miss-type. That's 34,000 not 3,400 haha. DEN is massive. Another example of a massive airport is DFW which sits on over 17,200 acres.

Kansas City, Missouri or Tulsa, Oklahoma are the closest major cities. My mother is actually a duel US/Canadian citizen and my brother is a permanent resident in Vancouver.

What is the trick you use to prevent vibrations during Takeoff/Landing? Whenever I film flights, the takeoff and landing always make my phone bump across the windows. I also hold the camera by hand.

So in this situation, I don't know that I have a better answer than that I've had years of practice at this point and I've gotten really good at it. Ultimately the goal is to keep the camera isolated away from the plane at all times. Anytime the camera contacts the plane in any way those vibrations get transferred to the lens. So that's even the plastic window. What I usually do for takeoff and landing is use both hands. One that's holding the camera, of course. And the other that's helping stabilize my arm that's holding the camera. Kind of a tripod made out of my arms haha. With the ultimate goal of keeping the camera as steady as possible, without using the plane to lean the camera on at all.
@GarlandTexasSpotter2024
@GarlandTexasSpotter2024 Ай бұрын
@@sla31 Thanks for the answer. You said to prevent vibrations is to not to put the phone on the window. Then, the video will be vibration free and prevent my viewers complain burning or watering eyes. I’ll try that whenever I film my next flight.

@@GarlandTexasSpotter2024 I think the A380 has an additional window/clear panel preventing someone from getting close to the window.
@sla31
@sla31 Ай бұрын
It's still just two layers on the A380, just like any other plane. The difference is that the inner layer is much farther away from the structural layer. This was done to make the windows appear larger as they're actually quite small on the A380. It is a very annoying feature when trying to film though haha.
