One of my biggest pet peeves is when NL has a card like Madness and plays it with his hand full. Like BRO, play the low cost cards so you have a better chance of Madness hitting something worthwhile. I can't even count how many times NL has done this..

Also he needs to stop thinking reaper is amazing in any deck. It's really not that strong unless you have strength gain.

I've recently completed two Barricade-Entrench-Body Slam runs on Ascension 1. Both were high scoring (one of them 1800+). If he had the discipline to keep the deck thin, this could have been a 999 run. For a Barricade style deck, you need Barricade, Entrench, Body Slam, and a couple of blocks (ideally Shrug It Off). THAT'S IT. After the first Body Slam, getting more Entrenches is more important than Body Slams. An Impervious or two are also tolerable, since they exhaust, and can be useful in building block early in a fight. Since you likely won't have that much card removal, or won't know that you're going Barricade that early, try to make up for any extra cards with draw. Ideally, either 0-cost draw (Finesse, Thinking Ahead, Warcry+, ONE Battle Trance, etc.,), or draw that also gives block (Shrug it Off). Four Body Slams can be worse than one, since it delays getting Barricade out, and makes your Entrenches come up less frequently. Body Slamming 4 times is not important. Entrenching 4 times IS, since that (roughly) multiplies your block by 16. Dead Branch is a NEGATIVE in this kind of deck - you don't want it cluttered with anything that isn't Barricade, Entrench, or Body Slam.. Attacks other than Body Slam DO NOT MATTER, not even Iron Wave. ONE upgraded Pommel Strike might be tolerable. The philosophy with card selection in this deck is this: 1) Does it help me get Barricade out faster? If not... 2) Does it help me get enough block early to be better than Entrench, while I wait for Barricade + Entrench to get going? If not... 3) Late in the fight, does it give more block than Entrench? (The answer is always no, so...) 4) DO NOT TAKE THE CARD.

I wonder if nl ever reflected on the problem with ignoring brutality unless he has rupture and ignoring rupture unless he has brutality...

14:45 Barricade is such a horrible play in this situation. The muggers deal high damage for 2-3 turns and then run away, and nl's current deck has no hope in hell of out-pacing that damage in terms of block. Playing Barricade is basically like burning 3 energy for no effect, and nl could of beaten both muggers and taken a lot less damage if he had used that first turn to put out block+damage. Barricade is a great card but there are some fights where, especially unupgraded, it hurts you to play it since you'll never get an effect out of it.

This was a really fun run. There was growth. There was strategy. And there were tears.

I've never been more proud of this Egg when he tried to make feed work on the Black Slimes and never been more mad at him for ignoring it like 7 times when he had over 150 block.

Could've been a great deck, if he had thought about cards more. The egg is improving tho, he didn't recall and actually took a fricking metallicize in a barricade deck. Also could've won with this deck imo if he had pulled barricade turn one.

I know there's a backlog and maybe you've reflected on this way of thinking by now. But in the last episode you called thread and needle a "game winner" and on the first metallicize you saw in this episode, you said you thought it wasn't very good in this deck. A card that when upgraded (which it was) is 1 energy for a strictly better thread and needle. Not to mention you took thread and needle in the last episode with no synergy, and in this episode you didn't take that first metallicize when it perfectly aligns with your deck archetype. I'm not trying to be toxic NL but yknow the squeaky wheel gets the grease and I'm feelin real squeaky.

That deck looked very similar to my winning run, a shame you couldn't put it together, but I have to say I got lucky and snagged the Bottled Tornado after I had Barricade, and Flame Barrier (which I only got thanks to the last shop) saved my ass showing up on the right turns for the final boss. Didn't get Entrench on my run, but dual wielding Metallicize helped out a great deal. Not to forget Mayhem, which is a great power and energy saver if you can get it. Also please for the love of God unless you don't need any more upgrades, don't recall. You can recall at the last campfire on the 3rd act, with a strong deck that shouldn't be a problem.

That upgraded double tap affects the next two attacks. You didn't take advantage of that several times.

You could upgrade entrench on first floor or just take key and have an expensive entrench in ur deck a lot longer wich results in more dmg taken and resting more and eventually death

So like, I love purging Strike as much as the next guy, but at 20:45 you might have been happier with offering Double Tap for 10 max HP and a full heal. Going from 53 to 118 and dropping a card that you don't have enough energy to properly use makes sense to me. Really I just hope you realize how the Bonfire Spirits work by now.

Since when has NL become so scared of Offering? Once you draw it, unless you're going to perfect the fight from that point, playing Offering will usually be better in saving you hp by drawing you to your win condition cards or necessary defense. Take Flame Barrier! Its really good. Its really good period, but you're also angling for a Body Slam deck. You want cards that'll give you the heft to set up Body Slam. Plus, the card has thorns. You love thorns. Indeed, early Feed is very good. Lies. You love to ask for Reaper almost as much as you love to ask for Shurikan. Aww. He missed out on Feeding off Time Eater. RIP escargot snack. RIP Couldn't make it to the gas before burning out. I'm gonna blame upgrade prioritization on this one. Not having Offering upgraded to reach for your win cards faster really hurt here. Taking so long to upgrade Entrench also hurt. Not upgrading earlier also hurt with the Dolly's Mirror play, as it cost you an extra upgrade to hit that second copy as well.

I think NL's opening statement is very indicative of why he is currently performing so poorly. Fighting the flaming elite at the end of the floor IS GOOD. It means you should be at the strongest point since you've had the most opportunities for improvement. He is still stuck in a high level ascension mindset. He's not viewing the floor as an opportunity to improve but rather a trial to survive. Probably a bad view from both a mental and strategic standpoint.

You dont need 4 body slams. A good block deck would have two max. Other cards you shouldnt have taken: Reaper, madness, double tap. Every card you take that doesnt draw and doesnt block makes it harder to find barricade. Also watching him not upgrade barricade and entrench literally was giving me cancer this is why i stopped watching the egg play this game. Thought it would have gotten better after 200 episodes yikes.
