The songwriting was pretty good, even if it was nothing new for Slayer. The production on the other hand is really, really bad and makes listening to the album more of a chore than an enjoyment.

Sure, South of Heaven and Seasons in the Abyss have good songs, but the also have plenty of filler material, just like all Slayer albums after 1986. Reign in Blood has an intensity and honesty to it that they haven't managed to match since, and most likely never will. I also didn't realize that a "true fan" is uncitical and just blindly accepts whatever crap the band puts out. Are you gonna tell me that God Hates Us All is a great album too?
