The pizza delivery was amazing! That would be one of the coolest camping experiences ever, this is going on the bucket list. Glad Derek stayed much better with a buddy.

Pro-tip for next time you do that, throw your boots and any other layers you strip off in the bottom of your sleeping bag. It can be a little awkward, but it's a great way to wake up to warm/dry gear!

Just finished watching this and had a good laugh when you mentioned at the end about how the ticket booth guys must be really bored in there, 10 years ago I was one of those guys! Haha. I was at west entrance booth near the campsite off the hwy, I worked for the snowmobile club at the time and had a blast doing it. Keep up the excellent content! 🤘

I spent a night out on a ridge with a buddy who shattered his foot and 3 search and rescue and I did most of the work. I tell everyone they should do this as practice

Glad you did it again this year Matt !!! A good sleeping bag sure helps get through the night a little more comfortable, even with only an emergency bivy bag. The pizza run was wicked, well done to both of you !!! A+++ P.S: Brings back some good memories of Winter Exercises during my time in the Canadian Armed Forces 😉.

Can’t believe that tunnel didn’t fold in half 😂. Ugh being claustrophobic in some situations I don’t think I could handle being in that cave. Being a very avid rider this is the first time I’ve actually thought about that. Luckily the once I’ve had to spend the night we were able to find a sheep herders trailer wagon thing. Very comfortable with bunk beds and everything. There was also some chicken noodle soup and wood burning stove with plenty wood. Very comfortable night. When we came out the next morning we couldn’t even see our sleds it snowed about 3’ (1 meter 😂) overnight. Left a note and $200 when we left. The owner called me in the spring and was thrilled his camp helped us out. So awesome!

When my kids were smaller we used to go out on the sleds and build a fire and cook. It was awesome, my brother in law used to always want to camp and I always just laughed at him! But honestly that looked fun. The Pizza was a nice touch.

an evening video drop is way better than no video drop. Wow that was a totally different approach to the overnight on the mountain. You looked rather comfortable in that area you built. Next challenge will be to spend the night on the mountain and the rest of the crew that doesn't spend the night has to find you, lol. Put those beacons to work. Keep it up Matt.

I’d love to do this though. I’ve got one of those good for -30 cocoon shaped sleeping bags. Get a little mattress like yours to get you off the ground and build a nice shelter and your set.

Cool episode Matt! I have a quick story for yeah, I got my Freerider Filmz hoodie here the other week and while out sledding lost my bag off my tunnel that had the hoodie in it. I was so frustrated for losing the bag and hoodie! Today I got word a guy found it! So stoked I got my hoodie back… and bag lol!

Built a similiar cave like yoursway back in the day and woke up to my buddy gasping for respirations . Oxygen in a cave like this is a huge deal . Also ive woken up and the roof sagged all the way to our faces . Luncky both times we didnt die . Lots of lessons learned .

As much as I didn’t want to I made a small vent though the roof to vent. I wasn’t worried about roof sagging as I actually put a layer of long sticks down and boot packed a foot of snow over top. Imagine it as reinforced concrete

Why not use a tent? If you do a snow cave, be sure not to have a fire right out side, gass and smoke will kill you in your sleep. No matter outside temp, when you close cave entrance, cave temp will be just below freezing. A decent sleeping bag for winter use keep you warm n alive. Derek, respect for doing it without sleeping bag.

Pro tip for winter camping, put on fresh clothes for sleep. And a water bottle with hot water between the legs keeps you warm

We build our own snow dome to hollow out and we don’t bother with the fire so much just proper clothes and sleeping gear.

Survived much better then last year. Yup -32 deg bags and I think one of survival guys said 8-12” of bowels or you loose body heat. Next time bring a roll of plastic cling wrap. A few layers n the emergence blanket he will be all set ☺️ A+ for effort ☺️

Winter camping is challenging for sure, you can put your boot liners/gloves ect in the bottom of your bag to keep them warm and dry them out a bit. Well done man, looks like it was a fun night!

I was wondering all day what was up 😝. Great vid as always . I am planning one of those but going to use my pop up ice shack as my shelter for the night . Northern Ontario should be interesting at -30 or worse if it’s windy 🤦♂️🥶. You should do another one with more prep and a better spot near end of season 🤙.

I use Klim Keweenaw gear and the baffin boots rated for -60 in negative riding conditions. You can easily sleep in it.

Out there ripping, its snowing, gets a little late so it starts to get dark and the shadows start playing tricks on ya.. Come around a corner and WHAM you find yourself falling into a 7 foot hole with a fire and 2 dudes 1 sleeping bag being filmed in a snow cave.
