A lot has changed in the music scene since 1993 but remarkably The Che still remains open in the center of UCSD. So thank you to who ever filmed this set. I started going to shows here as a teenager in 2002 and it was a huge part of myself and my friends lives.

I saw these guys live around this time at a festival called Indian Summer in my hometown of Moses Lake Washington. Neurosis, Tree People and a whole bunch of great bands played at the fairgrounds. It upset the local hayseeds pretty badly. Best show ever!

Funny how everyone is mad today at concert goers, when they get out their phones and record. We wouldn't have this footage if no one decided to record back then.

because it's one guy in the whole crowd not half of it, and because most concert goers who film multiple bits of the show rarely watch them again or share them. Also this guy isn't in the middle of the crowd obstructing everybody's view

I'm sure this was recorded with a heavy and expensive piece of equipment. The sound is also really good. Nice vantage point too. Making this video took dedication and is to be respected. Someone taking out their phone and recording a shitty 30 second bit just obstructs other's view.

Is the Che still open? The Soul Kitchen (El Cajon) was also a great place to see shows that was the first place I had to the fortune to see Will Haven. Still the best place was the original SOMA in downtown, Carcass, Napalm Death, Brutal Truth, & Cathedral. I_FUCKIN'_LOVE_SAN_DIEGO, Forever in My heart. The Che Ruled

+David Lo pan not sure what my show history has to do with it, but yes, I play drums in a doom band. We play out a lot. We focus on keeping the songs slow tempo. Yes it's easy to Speed up when playing live, but not if the drummer keeps the tempo slow. My point was I like this song with a slower tempo.. But thank you ..

I get it totally the drummer controls the tempo 100%. I hate playin with dudes that keep getting faster and faster towards the end of the songs. I jam with a dude right now that does it and it drives me crazy.

At the time, Sleep wasn't a doom metal band, so it was thought to be a band similar to the grunge boom Nirvana and Soundgarden, but its roots were actually proto-punk and black sabbath such as the MC5. It had nothing to do with the grunge movement.

Dovinia I've looked into this as well. My guess is that Al had a luthier rebuild this bass, or purchased it (for cheap) already modded. The pickguard serves to replace all the sharp metalwork around the bridge pickup, and other have done this mod though I don't think it is commercially available. Looks like the bass has a Toaster pickup in the neck, so it might be a '70s bass that was reworked prior to Al getting it.
