Yoooo the arrows you added in are actually a really good idea. If you're not actually in class (like watching a video) and you're not feeling the demonstration then sometimes it's hard to tell exactly what's going on even when people describe what they're doing, I'm starting to wish more channels did this

One of my biggest sources of entertainment lately as a lifelong wrestler is watching videos like this where BJJ folks explain a move I learned as a small child like they’re putting you on to some wild shit Just absolutely insane to me how low level the takedowns are in a discipline almost entirely based around getting people to the ground

It's entertaining to me how wrestlers always have to talk shit in the comments of Bjj videos. BTW, the guy in the video is a [former] D1 wrestler, dumbass.

Wrestled for 14 years competitively and coach now. Slide bys are fantastic. Prob not gonna work on an elite wrestler, but if they square hips up after attempting it, you have a golden opportunity for a reshot. They can be a great tool. I also suggest learning over collar shrugs. Great for setting up reshot. They can also transition into Russian tie, and from there you have so many options... Overhook offense, shots, snaps, plenty of cool throws, etc... It just depends on your opponents reaction partly. alot of people post on the head when their opp has a russian. If your opp posts on your head, put the Russian into their face, through the post arm... that's a free shot. They push in? Snap. List goes on. If you have a Russian tie and dominant head position, you can control the match. That goes for any tie really. Allwrestling really is, is knowing the ties you like, getting to those ties, and staying out of ties you don't like. I know it's obviously not that simple, but it goes a long way. If you don't like collar ties, then why would you collar tie? I know that sounds obvious but I see it all the time. People wrestling with less favorable ties. Enjoy wrestling:) sorry it's long, I just love it. Stopped myself from typing pages and pages of technique notes

My wrestling coach taught me all these throw bys in the late 90s. It’s called a throw by but it’s not a take down yet. A good take down after a throw by like this would be what’s called the claw. Keep your right hand on the trap near the neck go to a high crotch with the left (elbow deep) and dead lift the guy with the left arm and pull down on the trap with the right hand when you’ve reach the top of the lift. Boom, you have yourself a high amplitude ooo and aaa take down/ throw straight into side control…. For maximum effectiveness don’t skip power clean day.

I know BJJ is an incredibly useful skill in MMA and even in some instances of self defense, but the stone cold truth is that 99% of us are going to get pulverized in the streets if we try something so methodical and nuanced.
