Slide and hide Neff oven is very popular and we sell very many.
However, the feedback about them is quite mixed. In this video, The Kitchen design experts talk about the pros and cons of the slide and hide oven so that you can make your own mind up.
If you don't know what a slide and hide oven is, you may have seen The Neff hide and slide oven on the Great British bake off.
It is a single oven and this video is just discussing the virtues of the slide and hide oven door - not the Neff oven itself.

This channel blows my mind. I didn't even know kitchen's had some of these awesome features.😲😲 That oven and kitchen is beautifull. My oven is 13 years old and not practical. from watching this I can see why people would opt for this. Great video 😊

A really important reason to have an oven door out of the way (either a hiding door or sideways opening door) is for people who are in WHEELCHAIRS or have MOBILITY problems. Good video, I never thought about the dripping issue.
@TheKitchenDesignExperts
@TheKitchenDesignExperts 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your input Yvon. A valuable point! Over the years, whilst working with clients that have mobility problems, I have found another key factor are the heights at which appliances are set. Many kitchens come with the oven set at a standard height, not taking account of the client that uses a wheelchair or indeed those clients who are shorter in height. Yes the choice of oven is key but so is the adaptability of the kitchen furniture. Thanks again for your comment.

I didn’t particularly want a Neff ( in fact I’d said no to kitchen planner) however as I want the 2 ovens vertically. To ensure that I can reach to ovens safely the Neff slide and hide seems to be the best choice. Great video which has confirmed my choice. Thanks

Oh you haven't stirred up the hornets nest at all - I love this candid review. We are buying a new kitchen and the company offer up certain appliances (oven with slide and hide) and they certainly are wow factor. But you have addressed every question that came through my head after viewing. Not only food dripping...but straight into the back of the handle assembly when the door is 'hidden'. Great food for thought before the final commitment xx

Just watched this video, as my oven broke last week and I thought I needed a Neff Slide & Hide, but do I? Not sure now. My oven is situated in a corner of the kitchen, right next to a outside door. I may think again. Thank you, great information
@TheKitchenDesignExperts
@TheKitchenDesignExperts 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ruth, if the oven is on the same wall as the door then you should be fine with an “ordinary” door. If , however, it is on adjacent wall and if outside door opens it would hit the oven door if it was down, then the NEFF oven could be beneficial. As I mentioned there are some design situations where the Slide and Hide is great.

The solid shelf should be on the telescopic arms at the bottom of the oven and is designed that it locks when pulled half way out. You place your cooking pot on the wire rack which also will lock if you pull it half way out. You don't cook on what is basically the drip tray.
@TheKitchenDesignExperts
@TheKitchenDesignExperts 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Philip. Thank you for your comment, much appreciated and you are quite right. Regarding the wire tray that will lock half way out, it will indeed do this but I still find it tricky to deal with in this position. The oven in video only had one telescopic shelf, at the bottom. I would recommend having all 3 shelves telescopic which give you much more flexibility.

I was considering a Slide & Hide oven but decided against it - not just because of the prospect of "mess on the floor" but, more importantly, because sooner or later the door comes off the hinges and leaves you with a struggle to get it back onto them - as plenty of KZfaq videos attest. It's a great idea, but it becomes just an annoying gimmick because not enough effort went into the design and execution....

Yep I agree. When we sell one we always suggest client take out the extra guarantee, just in case. Usually this isn’t something we advise but it makes sense with the hide and slide because of the problems

Very dissappointed with the slide and hide door. It has a design fault as food, moisture, grease managed to get between the panes of glass and it is such a difficult job to get the door off. So much so we don't and it looks awful.
@TheKitchenDesignExperts
@TheKitchenDesignExperts 3 жыл бұрын
That’s really interesting Di. Thank you for sharing your experience with the slide and hide oven. The problem with food residue getting between the glass on oven doors isn’t unique to just this oven. But your remarks regarding difficulty removing door is valid and I have had numerous clients mention this to me. Thank you for your comment.

@TheKitchenDesignExperts
@TheKitchenDesignExperts Жыл бұрын
Hi Tanya. Obviously the door shouldn't catch. There isn't,to my knowledge, any way to screw it down in the middle. I have had this problem which was caused by the oven itself being out of square. Neff service replaced the appliance for me. Contact service don' tput up with the problem

You didn't think of the following: say the oven is situated on ground level and the hob at waist height. If the oven door slides and hides, then it's much easier to tend all the pans on the hob; otherwise, when you're grilling (which we do all the time) you'd have to bend over at an awkward angle to reach the pans (especially the ones at the back) and it would drive you nuts.
@TheKitchenDesignExperts
@TheKitchenDesignExperts 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Rowena, thanks for pointing this out. I admit that I have a blind spot when it comes to built under ovens. I rarely think about them because I always try to design them out of kitchens. I just hate bending down to an oven. However , I see your point. The only thing that puzzles me is that I thought the Neff slide and hide oven had "closed door grilling", so that you could only grill with the door closed. I'd better check my facts on that one. Thanks again for reminding me about built under ovens.

@@TheKitchenDesignExperts I would have loved an eye-level cooker but our kitchen is too small. I haven't bought the Neff oven yet, but have spent hours looking through them. I like the idea of slide & hide, but yes, I've just learned that you have to have the door closed to grill, you're right! For years I've used a very basic baby belling counter top oven and always had the door open to use the grill - otherwise the glass door would smash! However with these new-fangled Neff cookers it's obviously a different story. So my point about s & h is less valid -- I'll have to think about this as it may be a nuisance, bending down, opening the sliding door, checking if the fish is grilled, turning it and re-sliding it back into place to close - could put a strain on the mechanism. One reviewer said he found it difficult to see into the oven with door closed when grilling. Do you know if all modern cookers need the door to be closed when grilling?
@TheKitchenDesignExperts
@TheKitchenDesignExperts 3 жыл бұрын
@@rowenathursby2389 Hi Rowena, I'm afraid all quality ovens incorporate closed door grilling. The solution to your problem is to have telescopic shelves. These make it easy to pull the shelf out and see how the grilling is going. Again, though, it's important to have a door below this so any drips don't mess up your floor. Be aware that usually telescopic shelves can come in sets of 3 or just 1. For grilling you will need a set of 3

@@TheKitchenDesignExperts Thank you for all your replies. I've gone for a model that comes with a telescopic shelf (N90) and am sticking with the slide & glide door because the dripping issue doesn't apply here - we only cook veg casseroles & fish, not joints of meat. Reviewers seem to love the S & G.

Why would you put anything in the oven that is liable to spill over without first placing the dish on a tray of some kind to catch spillage and therefore save oven cleaning? I think this is a common practice for any competent cook and is not a valid reason to see it as a fault.
@TheKitchenDesignExperts
@TheKitchenDesignExperts 3 жыл бұрын
Hi. Fully understand what you are saying. And you are absolutely correct. What I find tricky is pulling out the tray below and also the dish your cooking as if you pull them out more than halfway they become unstable and you have to hold them. This means you need 3 hands! Obviously telescopic shelves solve this problem but not every oven has them.

Thanks for your question. Visually they are quite unique but suit traditional more than contemporary styled kitchens. Yes they remove the problem of reaching over a hot door. However, feedback we have had is that opening 2 doors can be a pain and the back of the doors are still hot and are positioned each side of you when you are standing in front of the oven. It's very easy to accidently touch the hot doors especially when closing them. They also still have the problem of any spills going on to the floor.

Great review, I’ve just bought a NEFF double oven and being a double doesn’t have the option of slide and hide. I was a little upset when I found out as I have loved my cousins slide and hide since she had her kitchen redone. We were replacing a double oven not a full refurbishment so had to go with the double to fit the space. I have one set of telescopic rails in my new main oven and I can see how useful it will be and already thinking about buying another set possibly two and all upset over not having slide and hide has gone. Also, your comment about them being useful for safety reasons made me realise that as my oven is in the corner with a wall on the right and the hob on the left I wouldn’t need them for that reason either, great review.
