Good class. I run slide divers with the 7oz weight upgrade and the ring (called the performance ring) as my high divers on a 5 setting. I let out the slide diver slowly on the 40’ shelf in Frankfort and it was 140’ of line out to get the diver skipping on bottom. So a 3.5 to 1 ratio is accurate for the big ring and weight on a 5 setting. Slide diver does not have tables completed for the performance ring with the 7oz weight.

You say that rod is a medium heavy in the narration, but at 2:54 as you're saying it and showing the specs of it, it says 8'6" 2M, which I'm pretty sure means 2 piece medium power. Just a minor note for anyone watching and wanting to replicate this setup. I use medium-heavy for "dipsy" divers, which are a bit different and pull pretty hard. But I've read that these slide divers don't pull like that, so if that is the case, a medium power rod would be fine. Either way, thanks for the video and the info - I am looking at trying these and need knowledge!

Great videos, you need heat in that shed! Couple of things I would add. 1. there is no need to have any more than a short lead after the last swivel, 6' or 7' is way over kill, 2'--3' is all you need, one of the main benefits of using slide divers if you do not need the long lead. Makes it much easier to bring fish close enough to net. 2. If you are spending money on slide divers get the light bite version. You will not regret it, and they can be set tight or lose, so they can be used for everything. 3. there is no need for a small swivel between the backer and the 100' of mono, just tie the line together with a suitable knot (depends on what lines you are joining) 4. for even easier storage you can add a clasp at the end of the 100' of mono (after the diver), that way you can remove the short lead, to make it easier to put the rod away. Cheers from Canada

Like I’ve always said, this is just my way of doing things. These setups have put many fish in our boat so I’ll stick with this system, but I appreciate the input. I’ve used the lite bite version and found myself drift back to the original. Lite bites felt over engineered to me and I’m a fan of less moving parts equals less problems. But, again, there is no wrong way. The best way is what the particular angler has confidence in.

@@tangledtacklefishing Small swivel between the backer and the 100' of mono. Had dipsy diver twist main line then go in to spin unnoticed while trolling. Eventually 40lb line simply snapped on its own loosing dipsy. In case when diver tangles and spins or using wire - mono this swivel is a must.

Great video, 1 when you look at the back of the boat your left would be port and right would be starboard in a manner of speaking. lol 2 if people would set up two rods exactly the same except for a 6ft leader, one with mono and the other with floro, and keep a tally of strikes and fish for each line they had all summer or a full week of fishing they can find out which may be better. But then who will remember this come fishing time lol

How come you don’t need a stubber for a slid diver?
@tangledtacklefishing

Because we run slide divers on mono. There’s a lot of stretch already in mono and more is not necessary. If you run slide divers on wire or braid, then you’d need a snubber.

so on the main line from the reel theres a swivel then a 100ft leader and the diver then another leader to the hook I gather, how can you reel a fish in as when reelin in the swivel eventually reaches the rod end and you still have 100 ft of leader out there unless you are suggesting that you just keep reelin in with the swivel passing through the rod eyes cant see that think I missed something a drawing would have made it clearer thanks though

@tangledtacklefishing
@tangledtacklefishing 3 жыл бұрын
If you're catching fish consistently then I wouldn't touch a thing, but if you're not then I would think about some experimentation. The 100 feet of mono gives you a great amount of space to move your slide diver around and dial it in for better bites.
