10:38 That's the thing though...she wasn't. She was confident, sure, but she was never over-confident. She sent out her minions to deal with Frieren first, let her spent her mana on them and Aura was observing the whole time. She let Frieren play around with the zombies for quite a bit too. Like she said, she didn't notice any anomaly with Frieren's mana the whole time. She worked with what she got base on her knowledge and experience. She was definitely being cautious, it's just Frieren herself was an anomaly to their world.... or in laymen's term, she's HER. To put it in another perspective, let's say you're the record holder of the world highest jump. One day a guy came and challenge you to a jump off, and he beat you by flying with wings on his back. Even with all your training, knowledge and experiences, you'd never expect anyone to have wings.

Couldn't have said it any better. I don't like when people write off Aura as just "stupid" because it literally diminishes Frieren's feat in this scene. Aura by all means did everything she could to win including getting Frieren to waste mana on her minions even though, from her perspective, she could see that Frieren "had less mana than her". The fact that she could normally see when someone is suppressing their mana and yet she couldn't tell with Frieren is just a testament to how strong Frieren is.

Most people expect a grand fight when firs coming into this episode, but her we use most of the episode to learn why it is not a big fight at all, which just works for this show. Also the flower spell, a semingly useless spell, having such a deep meaning behind it is just wonderfull story telling, and we are not done with it.

It goes to show you how strong willed Aura is because most completely and quickly fall under the power of that spell. It's very, very rare that they're able to resist at all, much less for as long as Aura did. She was a Sage of Destruction for a reason. She just ran into the wrong person.

Frieren was told to suppress her mana to 10%. Interesting that Aura said she couldn't have spent more than 100 years training. 100 is 10% of 1000. Nice little touch there.

In this Ep. 2 things should have popped out at ya. 1st is now we know why there are so few Elves and the 2nd was that was one of the coldest ways I've seen someone get taken out in an anime.

A detail I noticed on rewatch was ep 2 I believe, during the frieren and fern training montage, you see frieren draw a small circle around fern showing her how much she wanted her to suppress her mana to hind it during fights. So good!
