Looking at this later production 6105-8009 “resist” slim-case 150m diver, made in November 1970. It’s late enough that it got the 6105B movement, which means it hacks. It also got a service handset - the sweep is a 6309 diver one, and the hour & minute hands look to be from some 7005 dress watch. Let’s fix that up too.
PSA: This video contains very little editing and sub-optimal levels of sound due to losing my microphone cord, so if you can hear anything count that as a win. Even if that "anything" is tuneless humming. I did pump up the volume though. YMMV if you choose to blow part of your life on this. No Refunds. Enjoy!

I was able to pick an 8000 from Japan recently and I’m blown away by it. It wears and feels so much different than the 811x which I also own. Now just waiting on a Type 1 crystal from you so I can send it off to the mad scientists for a service!

I have two Willard 6105s and one slim case 6105. The dials on these vintage divers look like nothing else. So unique in their form and function. Love these as the ultimate tool rec sport diver watch of the 60s and 70s.

SKX007 on the second-hand market. One of Seiko’s greats, a future collectible, but still affordable now.

Mouthwatering Spencer! I have a lovely 6309 and am on the hunt for a 6105. Planning on finding one next year for a significant birthday. Rather than a new watch I’m angling for a 6105 as they are iconic.

Spencer, is the length shorter on the vintage 6105-8009’s compared to the modern re-interpretations? I love the case shape and design but it looks a little too long on the wrist compared to the more stout 6105-8110. I wish Seiko would have made a more true to the original design. Not a big fan of the Prospex logo on the dials, I like a more cleaner, simpler dial without distracting logos and text.

The larger service hands on the 6105 are spectactular. I've always shied away from the square or rectangular hour markers in favor of the round ones (6309, 7548 etc) as, for me, the round ties in with the case, bezel and every other element of the watch better.

This is exactly why I love old(er) Seiko and am so disappointed with current Seiko. These are breathtakingly beautiful in their function with no as you say funky stuff, like misaligned bezels or stupid garish dials that Im so fed up of with modern Seiko and of course the rip off pricing. Give me one of these any day of the week.

That is one of my "Super" 6105s - I built it out of parts as they came in. I haven't found a 6105 rotating ring yet, but the rotating ring from a Rally Diver fits right on, and it'll take a standard 6105-811x insert. The movement is a 6319 upgraded with a hacking lever / center wheel bridge, and both mainspring arbor jewels.

Hi Spencer, I notice that slimcase has got a type-III crystal. Supposedly a service crystal by Seiko, or what do you think? The 8110 on the khaki strap has got a funky bezel comming from another watch. Do you know from where? Looks kinda cool 🙂

Merry Christmas to the family Spencer! A great look again at the evolution of the divers, and I agree with your points on the modern iterations. I do however think that Seiko is moving in a good direction with the new re issues, but I think it’s important to think of them as another progression rather than a re issue. Yes they are very similar, but they are not the same as the OG. I picked up an spb151 nearly 2 years back for my uni graduation, and man what a watch it is. You should really get a look at one. It’s not a 6105 that’s for sure, but man what a watch. Do you still have your prospex 62mas gilt re issue that you picked up a while back?

I have a Seiko 6139 from 1978 that a “watch maker” overhauled. I’m not comfortable with what he did. Can you inspect give m3 an idea of overall condition?

Spencer, what about the 7000 series? Were they not the transitional series between the 6309 and the SKX, being produced between 88 and 96? I have a 7001 7002 and the dna is certainly there. I do like the 7000s with the elongated marker at 12 o’clock. Seasons Greetings btw!

Is the 6105 with service handset a franken made from different watches ? I can se it has the same inscription on the caseback as a 6105 you talk about here; kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ftCKkq2T0q-mZqM.html
