Spring is here and one of my favorite ways to catch crappie in the spring is with a slip bobber setup. If you forget to buy minnows on your next fishing trip, make sure you have crappie nibbles in the boat.

Took my brand new Battle II 5000 for a spin yesterday for the very first time and I hooked a 20lb yellowtail using a Ugly Stik X2 (medium hard) rod kzfaq.infoUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . This combo was recommended on some website and it did not disappoint me. The reel is smooth, the drag click is pretty cool cause i think it adds to the excitement of fighting the fish, personally the drag is my favorite part. I use braid and 300 yards will fill the entire spool. This combo is my main setup from now on although I have to disclose I am new to fishing.

Bought myself a bobber similar to that and when I cast it they stand straight up, not lay down like yours do they I have seen in a few different videos. Anything you can think of that could cause that? There is only one place to hook the bobber on so maybe it’s not made quite like the ones you have.....

Would you comment on slip bobber fishing a deep brush pile for crappie with wind that tends to blow the bobber back to you if you have the boat facing the wind. Thanks for all the videos you make.
@FloppingCrappie
@FloppingCrappie 3 жыл бұрын
That's a complicated boat position, so I understand that could be frustrating. If there is a lot of wind and I felt a slip bobber was the best setup, I would position the boat off to the side of the brushpile (still facing into the wind) and cast the bobber so that it drifts over the brush but not back toward my boat.

Davis where do you find these Crappies in the spring. I live in Michigan and we have no brush piles and it is against the law to sink structure. So you can't make any the entire lake pretty much has the same weed cover. I never have confidence in where I am at and what I am doing. Someone suggested I join local panfish clubs. Do you have any suggestions.
@FloppingCrappie
@FloppingCrappie 3 жыл бұрын
Right now, April/May crappie will start pushing shallow to spawn in Northern states like Michigan. You should start seeing them near the edges of shallow bays where the first week growth starts. I would look for bays on that are on the Northern portion of the lake. These bays are the first to lose their ice and get the most sunlight, which means the first weed growth. Also look for areas with hard bottom sand/gravel in-between the weeds.

the hivis is easier to see when a fish bites. i typically use hivis line when slip bobber fishing in order to see if a fish bites before the bobber stop slides to the bobber

You never seem to have the problem with your bobber stop that I do - I just get the depth set, catch a fish, and the eyelet moves the stopper as I reel the fish in. Got a tip for that? (I use the little rubber football stops)

When using the yarn slip, I have the problem of it sliding when it gets to the first eyelit. A trick I use for the rubber stops is when the stop is just about to get to the rod tip, I will give a little slack in the line and reel up quick. This allows the stop to goes through the first two or three eyelits without any problems. The yarn knots don't always work when using this tactic.

@@FloppingCrappie That makes sense, and now those pauses I noticed you make reeling in make sense. I'm not sure I'll EVER be calm enough reeling in a fish (Oh Boy!) to be able to see that tiny little black football. :)
@MegaTechno2000

Make your own bobber stops with mono. Get your line tight like a guitar string, then take length of 10 lb. mono and tie 4 hard tight overhand knots right on top of each other and clip both ends close to the knot. This knot is so small that you will hardly feel anything going through your line guides, and it stays put.
@larrymarek9571
@larrymarek9571 3 жыл бұрын
@@MegaTechno2000 That is an interesting method - do you mean four separate overhand knots? Or one knot with the tag thru four times?

Do u keep your split shot right up against the hook?
@FloppingCrappie
@FloppingCrappie 3 жыл бұрын
It depends on how the fish are biting, if the bite is negative (fish aren't willing to chase) then I put the split shot right against the hook. If the bite is more aggressive, I with move the splitshot up to a foot about the hook
@SlimDeVille81
@SlimDeVille81 3 жыл бұрын
So do you have your bobber set up right at the hook?
@FloppingCrappie
@FloppingCrappie 3 жыл бұрын
Sometimes I do. It depends on how aggressive the bite is though. The reason the weight is directly above the hook is to see a negative bite better (you're bobber will go sideways in the water when a crappie bites)
