Sometimes The slip joke leaks out of the vent hole, Other times it leaks around the cap. Some say REPALCING the slip yoke fixes it but some are not cheap or are of UNOBTAINIUM!
Not at all how a how to video so no one comment "YOU DID NOT SHOW ANYTHING" I don't care. If you cannot figure out how to clean a surface and apply some RTV with a screw driver, Don't try to comment.
These Chevy or GMC trucks seem to do this alot. But It seems any Spicer or AAM Drive shaft assembly with a slip yoke from any make and model can have this issue.

I JB welded mine. Worked for a short while. Finally ended up taking the drive line off. Remove u-joint from slip yoke. Knock soft plug out with a dowel or round stock steel. Clean it up real good. Apply lock-tite or Permatex sealer to the edges of plug and press back into place. No leaking.

I had the same issue and called my drive line guy and he told me that this is very common with Chevy. If the vehicle sits for long periods than the torque converter drains and will cause excess to leak from vent hole in drive shaft. Hope this helps.

@dunncustomz

the seal inside the tailshaft is the issue, putting rtv in the pressure vent of the yolk is only a temporary fix until the tailshaft becomes full of fluid and comes out the output shaft seal.
@GhettoWagon
@GhettoWagon 7 жыл бұрын
Some have a seal , some don't. I think the leak is more from the whole cap leaking if anything. I have had this "fix" on my other truck for over 10 years now. It never fills up with ATF. In This vehicle, this is the transfer case it plugs into

if you plug the hole, rtv, jb weld, or weld it up should work... if it henoraghes grind one of the splines down to about 50 percent and that will let the fluid travel back out of the slip yoke.
@GhettoWagon
@GhettoWagon 7 жыл бұрын
Yup.. It stopped most of the "whip" Best it to take the shaft off. Next time I have it off Ill do a better job, oir maybe ill just get a new slip joke. I forget if it is a AAM or a Spicer part. If you go through them you pay 50% less than what the manufacture wants and you get the SAME exact part lol

Ok so just Incase someone has the same problem and can’t find anything online. I had this same problem and was going crazy. I changed the yoke and the leak has stopped for the past two days. Before that I had changed the output shaft seal and it still leaked. I think what happens is that the yoke gets work done and let’s oil pass through in between the out put shaft teeth and the teeth inside of the yoke. No one carries the yoke I got mine from the dealer for $410.00 and my friend who is a mechanic changed me $260 to do all the work. At one point we took off the transfer case to see if there was an O ring that went inside but There’s not so that was ruled out.

Mine has almost like an extension housing and there is supposedly a o-ring inside of it, now when I removed my driveshaft that o-ring was up inside the trans past the seal. Now I am guessing it is meant to be inside the extension housing but I have no idea how to explain this to the part guy at my local auto store. Have any suggestions?
@GhettoWagon

Probably better off calling a dealer and looking at the parts sheet. Ya usually there is a o ring that goes around the whole tail shaft.

Sometimes its the O ring inside the transmission or transfercase if its 4x4 that is failed and its allowing fluid to leak Not the seal. but the small O ring on the spines the tailshaft has to come off

Ya never thought about that, The real cause of this is a O ring on the shaft but you need to disassembly the transfer case on this model or remove the tail shaft if its just a regular transmission.
