I think the issue he was trying to raise was more with how often he needed it/how much of a resource sink it would realistically be to keep refilling the IV bag just to keep someone prisoner. I don't think he was trying to imply it was like a massive plot hole or anything, just one of those little nitpicks that can sometimes stretch suspension of disbelief and arguably doesn't add *that* much to the show overall. Honestly, my bigger complaint with that particular scene is Cooper retains any sanity at all...not because of feral ghoul stuff, but being buried underground, unable to move but still conscious and kept alive for even a short period of time is bound to have an impact. I feel like the scene would play out more or less the same if he was approached by a group that tried to capture him, still had an action scene, then got the offer and went on his way without having any of the buried underground stuff. But, again, it's a pretty minor gripe overall

One could say that between those two things very little RadAway is needed to sustain a ghoul, since the RadAway is only needed to counter ongoing radiation exposure and/or consciousness/activity. (and for those who'd say that the bags would be stolen, one could say that the bags were only shown for audience purposes, and that they were actually either inside the coffin _or_ hidden inconspicuously on the ground (more likely, since even with low RadAway consumption, it would probably still need occasional refills over long periods of time)

Yeah the whole "Moldaver is actually good" thing almost got me for a second then i remembered she brought a group of actual raiders to pillage a vault full of innocent people. People not unlike her lover or best friend, when she could have brought a team of NCR remnants. When you learn the reverence moldaver had for Lucy's mother, it just seems unbelievable that she would choose to put her children at risk, and do more than what was absolutely necessary.

The storytelling makes no sense in so many ways. What you just mentionned is a proof that most things were written for the sake of the wow effects. The whole first episode vault part makes no sense (the marriage with only strangers, the overseer not knowing anything despite being able to communicate, the "choose your daugther or them" which has no consequences...).
@BobSmith-kk4kp
@BobSmith-kk4kp Ай бұрын
Yeah, it has blown me away how many people praise the writing, when it makes little to no sense on the regular. Just a few of the many things I noticed: Why did the sophisticated Enclave mini-gun turret miss the Doctor at nearly point blank range even though he was shuffling quite slowly? These would not be of use against a real hazard if they could not hit a slow moving older man. Why is there a mystery about the Vault 31 in Vault 33, when people know that all of their leaders come from there, and they literally sing a song about electing the next leader from Vault 31? How was it suspicious that all their leaders come from there, if they have been singing that song long enough that everyone knows the lyrics? Why did everyone in Vault 32 kill each other and themselves when they found out that Vault 31 has cryofrozen Vault-Tec people? They presumably loved their Vault just like their friends in Vault 33, and thus probably thought highly of Vault-Tec. Are we to believe that when they found out they were to be trained to conquer the wasteland, they all lost their minds and killed each other and themselves? Why do the Vault 33 people get to see the Vault 32 people every few years, but have *never* seen anyone from Vault 31 except their 'elected leaders' (and Stephanie Harper for some reason), and not at all find that suspicious or at least weird? Why was Stephanie Harper unfrozen in 31 to join 33, when she is shown turning wrenches with Lucy instead of having a leadership role like the others from Vault 31? How did Moldaver survive 200+ years? Why is this not explained? If she were still alive, one would assume it would be answered in Season 2, but well... seems less pressing to answer once she is gone, so it seems like and oversight. Why did Moldaver go through Vault 32 to get to 33, when she could have just gone directly to 33? After all, that is where her objective was. She had Roses Pip-Boy, which was from Vault 33, and would have granted easy access. There are tons more. This show is a disaster.

@@BobSmith-kk4kp Here are some "answers", I guess. 1/ the turret miss because it is convenient, of course, and they always can say that this kind of things happens in the game in SVAV mode. Note : I am playin Fallout 4 right now and no turret ever missed me. They are annoyingly accurate. 2 / No reason. I bet there are some teams of different writers failing to communicate, or some writers who have new ideas from one episode to another and absolutely no script doctor. They surely believe that the gore and wow effects will distract the viewer of any flaws and that they will forget about it when seeing the next episodes. It might be the reason why they realesed the whole series at once. 3 / as more and more viewer are noticing this incoherence, they might come up with another reason in seson 2. Or not (see "answer" /2 above). 4 / Someone came up with the song idea at one point and nobody cares about fact checkings. See "answer" /2. 5 / I believe some 31 come as 32 in disguise for the marriage. Which leads to another problem. How 32 is ok with having unfrozen newcomers from 31 once in a while and lying to 33 for the wedding party ? Maybe 32 was a control of some sort ? But I guess "answer" /2 is more probable. 6 / This one is easy. She was retrieving luke skywalker's light saber for maz kanata. The writers don't care and you will probably never know. 7 / She knew her target was in 33 because she met him before, so it really makes no sense, unless maybe the access from the outside was easyer from 32 and she came up with the stupid wedding plan that eneded in a slaughter anyways. They must consume some interesting things on the writing room. Or maybe it is the showrunners who totally screw up afterwards, who knows...

@@nassiled You clearly put more thought into your answers than any of the writers put into the show, and I appreciated it. Number 6 got a genuine laugh from me. It really is remarkable that people have paying jobs to produce this utter drek. Hollywood has always been a horrible cesspit filled with creepy awfulness, but at least many of them used to have talent. Guess it is mostly just a cesspit now, with little of a silver lining. Seems like their must be tons of talented writers around, but clearly they are not interested in hiring them. Fallout deserved better than this, and so did we. I hope more people will start to think critically about this show, the mindless praise for it is pretty staggering.

@@BobSmith-kk4kp Thank you for your kind reply ! The recent low level of bad writing made me consider to become a writer myself, or maybe just a script doctor's assistant. It really started for me with "The force awakens" and the "who cares?" attitude which is post-modernist at its lowest and lazyest. On the other hand, I think nobody really wants to create an horrible show (except if you are trying to kill a genre or a franchise, which could be the case for some). I believe this is the result of the "new" and non efficient processes of the industry. Short deadlines, costly projects (mainly for marketing), the "showrunners" supervising an army of expendable directors, and a strong business agenda. The filming becomes acrobatic and nobody has the time to have a clear overview. Re-writing scenes on the set at the last minute is something I suspect to be more and more common. That said, Fallout is a miss but could have been a lot better with a little more effort/time/budget/ talent maybe. There is potential and I actually liked the actors and many aspects of it. This is why I take the time to point out the flaws. Praising this show blindly will not improve its quality.

They don't care if they know how to have sex or not, because that's irrelevant to the Brotherhood. Maximus=Fallout 2 A Wasteland native on a quest to prove himself to the wider world and secure a treasure for his tribe. Lucy=Fallout 3 Vault Dweller looking for their father who it turns out knows more about the outside world than he initially let on. The Ghoul=Fallout 4 A Pre-War veteran with extensive knowledge of power armor looking for their lost cryogenically frozen lost child.

I dont agree with all your criticisms but appreciate the quality of this review overall as your points were articulated and reasoned and much better than a lot of other criticisms some youtubers have brought up which seem to mainly be "New Vegas Reeeeeeeee" or "women and black people in a show Yuck!" That said I argue that the story about vault 31 was not massively foreshadowed in my opinion. Sure we knew something sketchy was up with 31 and that they seemed to be influencing the other vaults but we didn't know that it was full of Vault-tec employees in cryosleep and I liked how this tied in with the Bud's Buds scheme we heard mentioned in a flashback scene. Also I don't think the NCR woman was really shown to be a good person. She more seemed to me like someone who used to be good but got twisted after the destruction of Shady Sands and was prepared to do whatever it took to acheive her aims hence why she used the raiders to attack the Vault. Lastly I don't think the show explicitly confirms that Vault-tec starts the war. The conversation between the CEOs more shows they were prepared to do this not that they actually did. In fact I think they might have planned to do this but events overtook them and the war started earlier than they expected. A big reason I think this is that we see the bombs drop while Cooper and his daughter were at a birthday party. I definitely do not think his wife would have allowed her daughter to go to that party if she knew the bombs were about to drop she would have probably already been in a vault if so.

You got a lot wrong, let's go down the list. 1. Cooper, while buried, is being drip fed the same mysterious substance he takes later in the series, it's not a plot hole. The relatively low amount he needs to be fed while underground as opposed to the constant supply he needs could be chalked up to activity, the more active he is, the more he decays, this is consistent with ferals in F4 who are usually lying still like a corpse until a human walks by. 2. Vault 31 is not the admin vault where Cooper's wife is. It's explicitly stated that it's for junior management, senior management has their own control vault. 3. It actually is plausible that LA would still be wired 200 years later, that whole region was NCR central as in this timeline Shady Sands is in the LA ruins. 4. Surprised you weren't annoyed by how Cooper is able to bring down dozens of T-60s but Maximus still kicked his ass in Ep2 for most of the fight. I think a lot of your criticisms leave a lot to be desired. Don't get me wrong, i don't think the show is perfect. It has minor issues and some holes that we'll have to wait until season 2 to see if they get filled. But outside of some of your nitpicks, I don't think your criticisms are super valid. 1.Pacing: You say that the show takes too long to get to things you already figured. As if storytelling was just giving information to the audience and nothing else. With Maximus and the Titus, Iwas wondering if you had ADHD because it's one scene thats a few minutes long, yet you act like it was the focus of the episode. And a character like Maximus that had been brought up by the brotherhood for years may need something more serious than "This guys a dick" to betray him. Maybe something like the threat of death, which is where the scene goes. With the Vault 31 conspiracy, you act as if the show doesn't expect you to know something's up and you're painstaking waiting for the characters to catch up to you. But but in the "When things look glum, vote 31" Norm knows something up with 31, you and he are on the same page. Norm, and presumably the audience, wants details. Why are they conspiring to control the other vaults like this? What makes them different? Is it an experiment? Something else? You just seem to think you're so smart for figuring out the start of the mystery and completly disregarding the rest of it. I just dont buy that the pacing of scenes or information to the audience is too slow. Except with the shows over use of slow-mo, I'll give you that one. 2. Morality: In a series famous for its ethical delemas, its interesting how quickly and certainly you are to convict Moldaver as the capital B bad guy becuase she raided the vault for the key to unlimited energy. I'll remind you in New Vegas 3 different factions and pretty damn blood thirsty and kill hundreds, possibly more, to secure the hoover dam. And thats not even unlimited energy, just a lot. And all she had to do to get it was raid the home base of her oldest, most viscious and hated enemy while also getting revenge for the greatest attrocity.commited against your people. Downside, some innocent, or as close as possible when dealing with vault tec citizens, will die. As far as ethical connundrumes in the fallout universe go, that seems like a pretty easy one to me. Is she a morally perfect angel who has done nothing wrong, fuck no. But you write her off really quickly for reasons i do not understand. Okay, there's more i kind of wanted to say, like how you thinking cold fusion is boring and it would have been better if we got a zombie robot is stupid, though I'm honestly not sure if you were being sarcastic or not. Or that i think your reading into some things incorrectly, such as Maximus's shitty sex ed, but im tired. I dont think your critisims here are very good. Man, the idea that Todd Howard or anyone at Bethesda would want to ruin New Vegas, or people's memory of it or it's legacy or whatever, is just ludicrous. Fallout is still Bethesda's IP, why in the hell would they wanna self-sabotage now when so much more money, time, and resources are on the line for development? Shit's crazy, mang. Todd Howard has been on podcasts and interviews where he straight-up said he really liked New Vegas. Obsidian did an incredible job, which I presume was why Bethesda gave them the opportunity to make that game. Because they felt Obsidian could do the best job out of whatever other developers they were considering to offer that job to. Collectively as gamers we really gotta get our heads out of our asses, or mainly just step back from all the mob-think because that shit will make you stupid.

New Vegas makes reasonable points of why the Legion and the NCR wouldn’t control New Vegas. So, I like the idea that not only does Yes Man control New Vegas but also Victor. Victor would be a more reasonable and stable leader than a robot that says yes to every single request. Yes Man could say yes to the Brotherhood of Steel if they ask for Hoover Dam but Victor probably doesn’t say yes. I could also see a potential scenario where Mr. House rigged Victor to run a Mr. House AI in the event of his mortal death, so no matter what the House always wins.

I have to disagree on the series attempting to "sell" Moldaver's nobility. The Fallout universe showcases what happens when ordinary people have to do horrible things for the right reasons, and what happens when horribly misled people *think* they have the moral right to take action for the rest of us. Pay attention, and you'll realize Moldaver has no redemption arc. She did what she did, there's no excusing it - and she did it to give her people - and the memory of Shady Sands, in effect - a purpose. Of course, it only follows that the Brotherhood are going to turn the Cold Fusion tech to their own ends. There's no winner, here. New Vegas has several similar instances, as do Fallout 1 and 2. Your best choices typically come with a catch, and you're never allowed to play as the "Good Guy", per se. Powder Gangers might be initially violent, but siding with them reveals that not all of them are sociopaths or hardened criminals. Some of them are just poor SOBs with serious problems. Ceasar's Legion offers a complete and working social structure that only seems barbarous and wrong because the setting rightfully assumes the Courier is going to be disgusted by slavery or crucifixion. Only the Bethesda Fallouts tend to have narrative structures that simplify things, with Fallout 4 only having a few added moral wrinkles compared to Fallout 3's defacto stating that the East Coast BoS had gone full-on Paladin Build. If anything, I'm pleasantly surprised by how morally grey Amazon's take on Fallout has been. I was actually afraid that with Bethesda as producers, we'd get another case of an easily-hateable villain. The fact is the series does a great job at illustrating the murkiness of the series, and Cooper Howard is probably the best embodiment of that. If the only way I could get some answers about my wife and child's whereabouts involved turning into a centuries-old mercenary with Murder Hobo tendencies, then I'd do it in a heartbeat.

She has no redemption arc because she does not need redeeming in the show's eyes. The only "redemption" she needs is in Lucy's eyes and that's just Lucy needing to see through the lies/propaganda she has been fed about Moldaver. The fact that Lucy and Lucy's mom choose Moldaver is enough to say that the show is on Moldaver's side. You could argue that yes, she did indeed murder innocents in the first episode, but the only time the show really questions the morals of that (while it has the full knowledge of her plan) is Lucy's dad saying it in the end - and he is clearly presented as only trying to keep the truth of Vault Tec from Lucy, so he's not really denouncing her as much as he is trying to protect himself (and he is clearly the villain so his ethics are not as weighty as a good character's would be).

When The Ghoul’s wife revealed her idea, I haven’t had a twist hit me so hard because of all the emotional implications for both humanity and the characters involved. That episode where Lucy and Max go into a vault kept me guessing and at the end, I had to conclude that the wasteland had changed Lucy in a noticeable way.

Great video. I really enjoyed the show, but yeah the finale was mid. In regards to the New Vegas stuff, while I love the game and agree it probably isn't retconned, I think your reason for believing it's still canon is slightly off. Just because the city is shown (potentially destroyed) to still physically exist, doesn't mean the story that took place there hasn't been retconned in favor of something else. Instead I'd say in response that the blackboard is inconclusive for several reasons. Firstly, the 2277 date and the mushroom cloud drawn in chalk are separated by an arrow which probably implies that "The Fall of Shady Sands" and it being nuked are separate events, with the bombing taking place post-Vegas (even though the cloud is the only thing on the board without a date attached). Secondly, the sign in front of shady sands' crater says "first capitol of the NCR" which maybe means that the capitol was moved before the bombing. That one I'm not sure for personally, because the whole reason shady sands was nuked to begin with is because it was the location of the NCR's government. Anyway again great video

14:55 There are more problems with this show in regards of retconning than just "boo hoo, NCR was nuked". I love all fallouts before 76 and I have no problem with NCR's capital getting nuked. The problems were: 1) It happened 3 years before the Fallout New Vegas even began (I am willing to forgive this because it could be a production mistake) 2) The reason for it getting nuked was really stupid 3) NCR reduced to raiders and they lost to BoS somehow 4) New Vegas being completely destroyed. Even in the shot before the end credits the city and it's area is lifeless, abandoned and has no electricity And then there are other fallout1&2 retcons: 5) Boneyard just does not exist 6) Ghouls are magical zombies now. Also they dont need food and water except when they do. 7) Ghoul serum 8) Vault Tec nuked the America for profits (???). Also that whole meeting retcons Mr House's character and Sinclair. 9) Enclave is back, somehow 10) BoS is now Adeptus Mechanicus that wants to help people So, overall, even though Fallout 1,2, New Vegas weren't retconned (supposedly) everything you did before doesn't matter and had no impact and everything you learned from them was a lie. Meanwhile, Todd doesnt ruin 3 or 4 because they are his fallouts. Also naming the ghoul Howard and making him the origin of Vault Boy was just idiotic vanity.

I know the “This series has always been silly” argument can be annoying if taken too far, but it’s a genuine point. Lets be honest, some fans take this franchise WAY too seriously. For my part, I felt it juggled the goofy and the grim very well, and implemented it in a way that fit the characters. What I mean by that is most of the silly humor comes either from vault dwellers or people’s reactions to vault dwellers, while darker humor is left to characters like The Ghoul. Genuinely disagree with the take that Moldaver was 'the good guy all along'. You can make the argument that she does the least vile stuff out of any faction, but she does some vile stuff to get what she wants. She dies getting exactly what she wanted, with a road of corpses behind her. Hell, i thought it was implied she was psychopathic for keeping the mother alive, despite being a ruined Ghoul. Thats why Lucy kills her; she needs to make tough choices, but wont let revenge and evilness ruin the upstanding morality she was raised under. Putting her mother down was the 'least bad' thing to do, even though it involved... killing her mother.
@LCaaroe
@LCaaroe 28 күн бұрын
I think the issue is that the show never really addresses these points explicitly, while it is very explicit about the morality of the other factions. I got the impression that the show wanted me to think that it was sweet that Moldaver had kept Lucy around this whole time to see their plan through (in some way "restoring" Shady Sands). Lucy's moral dilemma in the end also doesn't have to do with Moldaver's actual reasons, it only had to do with her dad lying and Lucy having to take time to understand that Moldaver clearly wasn't evil. I think the show has been SO overt about morality (like they really had to have Vault Tec say the line "WE WILL DROP THE BOMB OURSELVES" to hammer home how evil they are), but the only one questioning Moldaver is Lucy's dad at the end who is arguably just trying to protect himself/his lies. (Obviously Lucy is also "questioning" Moldaver in earlier episodes but she doesn't have the full picture here.)

Honestly, as someone who has a pretty surface level knowledge of Fallout, I found a lot of the reveals at the end pretty gripping. It never occurred to me that vault tec ended the world themselves. At the very least, I agree with you on how they tried to make Mulldover (however you spell that) some secret noble character. I'm really just excited to see more of Cooper in season 2 lol

76 was a joke at launch, and Starfield isn't great. Good initial sales, but the modding community has somewhat given up on Starfield and the main story isn't very good. Even though those are from different arms of Bethesda, it's still two bad games after one another, and if TES6 is bad, Bethesda might struggle in more than just reputation.

Come on, that point about Moldaver sooo misses the mark. She's a 200 year old woman who had seen Vault-Tec sabotage her every attempt to make the world a better place. She saw Vault-Tec destroy not one but TWO civilizations in their insane attempt to control the future. She's a woman jaded and angry, of course she would have no issues unleashing raiders at a bunch of Vaut-Tec stoodges, in her eyes they are far from innocent. Is she a bad guy, yes, is she a good guy, also yes. Moldaver is an anti-villain.

11:50 I think the point of this is to show that the Brotherhood DOESN'T have any sex ed. The way Maximus talks about it is like what you hear from middle school boys on the playground. I think they're trying to show that he was basically taught nothing about it and his only frame of reference is what he's heard, which isn't a lot because he's not too popular. It's also possible that other Brotherhood initiates just lied to him because it was funny. Not sure how you could see that scene and assume that it was the Brotherhood that told him his dick would explode like a pimple.

Eh, i think being able to "predict" what is happening may also be a reviewer illness. I personally thought Maximus may actually _kill_ his knight, since at that oint I was still half convinced that he _did_ put the razor in Danes shoe. Also, I didn't feel like the slow mo shot at the end was supposed to fool _us_ it was Coop who didn't know who she was aiming at. I also did not see the actual Vault 31 thing coming until the last episode, I thought they were just taught different things. I very much enjoyed the mysteries, so I think to say universially that everyone is going to see thiese tweists coming is a bit presumptious.

"Also, I didn't feel like the slow mo shot at the end was supposed to fool us it was Coop who didn't know who she was aiming at." What did you think the purpose was? She was not clearly aiming at anyone; her last interaction was with The Ghoul, who she has a troubled relationship with, and nothing points towards her shooting her mom (if anything she has been all about saving ghouls at this point, although I know her mom is in a bad state).

@@LCaaroe Really? I felt that her shooting her Mom was pretty obvious. But, as I mentioned in my own comment, clearly, not everyone sees the same thing when watching TV, so if you felt it was a good misdirect, then that's even better, no? It just didn't make any sense to me that she would shoot him, when they re clearly setting up that they are going to go together and I think you can hear her mom growling in the background, which is what gave it away for me

Yeah I wasn't a big fan of the last episode, either(and that damn chalk board a few episodes before). Man, I never thought I would have preferred Ulysses to be the one to destroy shady sands over Lucy's dad. Also cowboy cooper is the best. Season 2 will be make or break for me(but I truly did enjoy my time with season 1). I hope the moldaver is truly dead and fallout tactics gets some love(vault 0 and the mid west BoS were dope). Imperfect but fun. On a side note Emil accidentally made the fallout 4 guy one of the war criminal from the fallout 1 tv intro(the laughing guy not the executioner).

My biggest ploblem with the show is that they seem to take every possible opportunity to undercut any tension with a dumb joke or the classic oldies that people apparently listen to when they play the game.. its not that the music is in the show that bothers me, its that its so loud and overused and really takes me out of the moment, especially during the fight scenes. Also i think the hokey vault boy 'origin' story was stupid and unnecessary. they should've just left it to comparing your thumb to the mushroom cloud

One thing that I can't stand is when the bad guy turns out good at the end, and it's like the writers forgot how awful that character was. A redemption arc is great, but I think Nolan tends to skip steps on the way there. I remember feeling that way about some of the characters in HBOs "Westworld".
