Australia really have a good core of very very young guys. They just need to keep building. They along with canada have the most nba players that aren't team usa. But that doesn't equate directly to high high level success. Spain and france continue to do it with less NBA players. Gotta get guys who are willing to do this for a good few tournaments and not just here and there.

Doncic's presence for Slovenia is insane. Just him on the court automatically opens up lanes and shot attempts, just because teams need to be ready to instantly double. Great play though by Giddey to keep Australia in as long as they were

Slovenia grooved up yhem advantage although Luka benched. See my comment above. Also: ot seems the Coach of Boomers does not makes quick excahnge of players - that is anothet highly effective method because that forces opponents to reconstrain system of defence, and far away not each team os able to do so. Same i can say about New Zealand team - the Boomers and AllBalcks plays the same style of Basketball and both teams suffered looses due to the systematic defence of oponents. And Boomers, and AllBalcks are young, talented and perspective teams, and i hope to see them in oncoming tournaments with an improved defence.

@@kaulinissenis thanks, this game is actualy huge if we are serious about pushing for finals as if we win (and USA does as expected), we cant face ths USA until the potential finals. Not like we would be favourites against either Canada or Spain in quarters or almost anyone in the semis either but I think we have a fair shot against all of them (unlike the USA where we would need to have an amazing night while they choke as well due to talent desparity).

It's amazing how one guy can completely make a team a contender. Luka went to rest and the lead quickly evaporates, he comes in and the lead is double digits again. As long as he play to his standards, Slovenia is gonna continue upsetting everyone.

The team runs well when both number 4 and 7 were together when Luka was sitting. They just defensively a bit challenged.

I was thinking Giddey is going to be lethal in a few years. The way he was getting to the basket and imposing his will -- it was like Slovenia knew it was coming and just couldn't find a way to stop it. Reminds me of a certain someone on the other side of the ball. Giddey has all sorts of potential to be Australia's best ever and a multi-year all star.

Outstanding shooting by Slovenia! They were bombing Logo 3's all game. That's something Boomers should have done more of during the cup. Shoot from further out where the NBA line is and further.. Get a full release on your shot from distance. Boomers with Landale and one other shooter would have been ideal. They probably should have stuck Goulding out there to shoot some bombs too. Take some risks. Giddey and Exum were awesome!

Can someone explain how Giddey is not getting called on offensive fouls? You can see literally everytime he goes forward to the basket he pushes the defender with his shoulder, how is this allowed?

It's something that the European players need to add to their game. It's not pretty but if the refs aren't calling it then it's not a violation, right? Shay Alexander does it a lot as well.

As a Kiwi hoop fan who enjoys watching Aussie basketball, I can’t help but think that Australian has fallen short a few times in World Cup and Olympics. They have such a good roster every tournament but don’t win anything. NZ is not expected to win anything with our level of talent. Australia should be filling up the cabinet

Please if a team played defence like Slovenia did against giddy, that type of defence on Luka, he would drop 50 on your head, Giddy isn’t that great people. Luka is the most double teamed in the NBA for a reason, wake up, without Luka they would have been out in the last round. The reason that Australia lost is because Slovenia could cheat defensively by allowing Giddy wide open 3’s like teams do against Westbrook, Giddy was zero threat from the outside, had he made even 35% of his wide open looks from 3, Australia would have won easily.

Doncic just needs this Slovenia team to be his NBA team lol. They keep tryna figure out what will work around him but when he plays for Slovenia, they've just been doing better and better. From Eurobasket Title to top 4 olympic finish to this world cup. The naturalized centers they've chosen as well are by far the key.

@@thirteentomoe nah. I think you still think these games are played on paper. Just look at how slovenia plays when Doncic is with them. The mavs may have tried the same concept but the pieces don't fit right. Australia fielded a squad of nearly all nba guys. I used to think I was just joking when I made the statement about Luka and slovenia but I don't think It's a crazy thought. You don't win games on paper. Japan also beat Finland. Tactics and chemistry matter... a lot lol

@@mrk6770 well let's see. Slovenia have been at their best when they've used Anthony Randolph(not prime Luka) and Mike Tobey. Slovenia is also without Cancar. That's their only other NBA guy rn. But whatever American center they've used seems better than whatever the Mavs have paired with Luka. And that includes Porzingis. lol

Mills was a liability on defense. He's too small and failed recognize his many opportunities where he could have closed in and applied pressure when they picked up their dribble high into half court or sink back and double.

Amazing game but refs needs to step up a bit because I saw way toooooo many illegal picks. Not only are they annoying but they are highly dangerous promoting severe injury to any player. Hope they can officiate that appropriately. Excellent game nonetheless.
