Another tasty country lesson with pedal steel licks🎸🙂. Love the transition to the Bb and melody out of chord shapes.

Playing the "fourth of the fourth" is such a cool transition or passing chord. Great job illustrating that.

Thanks for telling us the "how I think about it" part. That is the thing that helps me most. I want to connect the notes with something I know. Your method helps me do that. Thanks!

Hey Brian - not only are the licks you show great to add to my chops, the theory with respect to how and "why" they work/sound - are very help full. Great Stuff !

Such a beautiful composition in and of itself. I love learning these to pick up your vocabulary. What I would kill for one day is a video/lesson showing how you approach building out an interesting harmony (chord progressions), for example, on a piece like this! Often, I will learn a blues composition of yours and then use that as a model to make my own, which has been great. However, I find that I struggle to break out of classic blues and standard 1-4-5 patterns, and introduce new harmonic elements to my compositions. 2-5-1s and secondary dominants are a good place to start I know, but tips like you mentioning in this video, passing by the 4 of the 4 chord, are golden in my opinion! Anyway, if the well is ever dry for ideas, there's one for ya! As a long time follower of your channel, I appreciate your work as a teacher, it's definitely some of the best out there.

The light bulb moment for me was that the fourth of the fourth is the flat 7 of the one chord so making it kind of C mixo. Love the pedal steel licks. I am targeting knowing those in more places. Thanks for the lesson!

I am trying to learn the art of harmonized 3rds and 6ths. I can never figure iut when/why to use the straight shape vs the diagonal. If youre looking for lesson ideas, I know I would benefit from that and I sure I'm not the only one. Thanks for all the great content here!

Hi Brian, that's funny you should say that about not thinking about playing the triads because I just watched a short with Eric Blackmon playing the rhythm lesson of Black Magic Woman and I said everyone wants to play lead Carlos's part but just as important is the Rhythm part played by Neil Schon, right?
