This is a slow-motion video showing the IBM Selectric II type ball (affectionately known to Selectric fans as 'the golfball') in action. The complexity and accuracy of these machines are something to behold. The Selectric contains around 2,800 individual parts, but the only thing that's electric in it is the motor. Everything else is mechanical. It is a work of true engineering genius!
This one dates from 1979.
