I'm a Boomer and I'm 64. I've left my gen's music for this era's music and newer stuff. My gen was dominated by what I call "new souls," typically bipolar, noisy, hectic, unsettled, etc. This band and its gen are what I might call "old souls," typically mellow, contemplative, passive, patient. The 90s were changing times. Today, the old soul might not be dominant, but it's definitely here.

We are all dead anyway, just living a lie.... The song is beautiful. But it reminds me of something I once had forgotten a long time ago - that we are drifting down a river, far far away from here. We build facades to mask our reality. But in the end, it all comes crumbling down. And that is where the beauty lies. Because finality itself is beautiful. And that is what the song means. Our whole waking lives have been a lie.

If you don't understand the pain and beauty of middle age, of loss, failure, starting again, living for others as well as yourself, of hoping time doesn't run out, of realising you're still alive but not 19, then you won't get this.....I have no desire for them to effectively rewrite the first EP, or for every song to be slow or fast.....take it at face value as new music by a great band. I get what you mean. These new Slowdive songs would be about Gen X facing middle age while clinging onto whatever rebellious, creative spirit they still have from their earlier years, meanwhile probably smiling proudly at their legacy being picked by new generations of shoegazers. Most hardcore shoegaze fans would complain about too many Souvlakis but I'd personally prefer it if today's shoegazers cite Slowdive as their major influence along with MBV, Lush etc. rather than forgetting about them at all.

This. Exactly this ! This song has a trasportative quality to take you into another place, an emotional journey and an imaginative mental trip. When i heard it the first time, it immediately sparked this fantasy of driving an open-roof car in a long shore by the the sea side during sunset time while the summer warm breeze is blowing through your hair and this song is playing and suddenly the world feels quiet and only focused on you like there's only u and this song, like u're a main character in a movie who just realized for once they're feeling... Peace and hope.

See, to me it's 5pm in the dead of winter, pitch black and snowy under the stars when I'm camping in the woods. Big reverberating sounds across a big wide open landscape. Funny how music means different stuff to different people

Agree with RJ. I live in the mountains and forrests of Montana. Perfect depiction! Sun down at 5, snow falling gently, it's cold , your bundled with your down parka with your headphones on, walking alone, It's quiet as a mouse, walking on the road alone, looking at the stars. listening to this album is pure tranquility!!

I think that I know why people have this notion of "listening to something that reminds them of past times" while listening to music like this. Happens to me, and happens to a lot of people. The music Slowdive does, connects somehow with our past, with our teen spirit, our lost youth. Those that for wherever reason let that time pass, or think that they didn't quite lived the moment, or simply now they are struggling with life and miss those times where they didn't have to worry about so much, are the ones which feel that burst of melancholy the most. In my case, with only 29 years old, Slowdive connects with past times of youth (my 16's-20's), the time that I feel I should have lived without fear of making mistakes or regret, the time that I should have spent with my friends and loved ones, and live my life, seizing the moment without worrying about tomorrow ("there will be enough time for worriness" I should have said to me) because everyone knows life is short. And I guess that moment of clarity came too late. That feeling of losing something you cannot find anymore, of losing part of your life in a blink of an eye and not being able to do something about it, is a heavy burden when you think about it. For the last years, I had to carry that guilt, because I lost so much friends and opportunities that hurts with only just recalling it and the fact that now I'm in a moment of my life where I feel lost, does not help. And this music it's the spark that ignites these emotions and a lot more, but in a more romantic way, like I don't want to create bad blood towards myself anymore, but I would just want to remember and feel those times, even though the melancholy is real and still hurts. To be honest, sometimes I wonder if listening to this kind of music is good for my emotional health. But I suppose, I deserve to feel this way. And I will listen to Slowdive forever. PD: Sorry for my english, It was hard to put in words my emotions. Greetings from Barcelona, Catalonia.

This song just returns me to 90's, to the time of old IBM pc's, long snowy winters, the obsession with wooden paneled offices, MTV, and general atmosphere of that time. It was a time of change, it was obvious something new was happening and nobody knew why. I was a kid, yet I still remember this time with nostalgia.

BEST BAND EVER. I'm 26 years old so I've only seen them since the reunion in 2014. I've seen them 3 times so far. Twice in an intimate venue and once in a large field. Didn't make a difference. SLOWDIVE sounded incredible in both settings. Seeing SLOWDIVE play LIVE is the ultimate way to hear their music. They come out 10 times more powerful and ethereal than on record. Unreal band! Friendly people TOO! XXX

Its 3:12 AM right now. I just drove back home going through New York City. The city that never sleeps. Just like my life, thinking about my life in NYC growing up when it was perfect. The childhood, my sister when she was alive. This song sort of takes me back. The city has been the same, ray of hope with its glistening lights yet a lot has changed. The street I grew up on. The problems I face now. The challenges that lie ahead. I know I cant change the past, we never can, but we atleast hold the power to change the future. I hope to one day move back to the city that has my childhood so I can relive those innocent moments. Until then, I will keep going for how many ever heart beats I have. Its nearly 4 am now. My soul is tired, my body is fatigued but somehow this song reawakens my heart int thinking tomorrow is another day closer to what I dreamed of achieving. Stay classy everyone and stop dreaming, wake up and pursue your them now.

Honestly no music has had as many effects as this one, what it makes me feel is a powerful feeling, which makes me discover new sensations, which dislodges my heart, cuts my throat, makes me cry every time I listen without even wanting it. I started listening to what is now called "shoegaze" in the late 80's. Before that as a mod I listened to Jam, Secret Affair, Chords...so 79'. It all started with my bloody Valentine that I really felt emotionally understood. Then came all the other bands from the Creation label and some others. At some point I became depressed because I no longer felt my body properly due to this "dream sound" and drugs. It was all so antisexual too. We all got so shy and uptight. Then I listened to Straight Edge... This newly recorded song brings me back the old good feeling where everything started for me 31 years before. THIS SONG IS BRILLIANT THANK YOU

Thank you for sharing, you are articulating feelings I hold but had trouble describing. It's like I want to share this kind of music with everyone I care about but it just seems to alienate me more. I've had sex to this kind of music but have grown asexual the more I submerge myself into musical collages. And the ironic part, is that i'm perfectly content with that. The wiser I grow, the more I connect with my dad who after separating from my mom, just immerses himself with his grateful dead tape recordings. I never understood why he never really dated after my mother but wasn't ever really jaded or unhappy. There's a safety and comfort from listening to deeply contextual music on your own terms and time.

This song made me cry for the first time sense I was 13 (I'm 27) I'll be honest, I was drunk and looking at old pictures, but this song immediately felt like it should have been around when those pictures were taken. That was back in May of 2017, and I've never quite felt the same when i listen to this song, but I remember. It only took four minutes for this song to have a permanent spot in my life and for it to fuse it self with a part of my life that this song didn't even exist yet.
