Slugs & Max Range in a Break Barrel - SIG ASP20 .22 cal and H&N 21 grain slugs

Can a break barrel shoot slugs? How far can you hunt with a break barrel? Lets take out the SIG ASP20 in .22 cal and find out with some H&N 21 grain slugs and lets throw in some JSB Hades pellets too. The Sig ASP20 shoots the H&N slugs really well if you are looking for a break barrel to try using slugs in the ASP20 is worth a shot.

got hatsan with field target 20.06 .25cal doing great to 80 yards real good drop power limited drop - got .22 hatsan with 21.14 barracuda its a toss up less drop but close power.. great video

My Hatsan 135 loves slugs. Accurate at 40 even 50 yards. That’s impressive from a break barrel in my opinion.

Hi Ben you should also try the hatsan airguns 125 and 135 (vortex)in. 177 and. 22 with nsa . 177 - 15 grain and fx hybrid in. 22 - 21 grains

what is the max pellet weight that should be shot through a break barrel? i have a .25 cal hatsan Mod 95 and am curious if shooting heavy pellets could damage it... i have shot up to 31 gr. pellets but want to order 44 gr. slugs.

Hey Ben!!! This is an excellent video. Can you please do this same demonstration with PCP's and Gamo Swarm platforms; Whisper, Maxxim, Fusion, and Magnum? I assume that the Magnum would have the farthest range and might be able to use heavier slugs while the Whisper would have to stick with pellets and shorter distances, and depending on whether the PCP has adjustable/regulated pressure would be most flexible with weights and distances or shot counts. Ethically killing your target depends on bullet placement and Energy Produced at the target...you will need to chronograph for that.

Noble6 Nazi is a term I don’t take lightly and neither should you. He stated a fact at the beginning of the video , to ethically kill your target. “ I simply said, you need to know the energy at the target location, and you can’t do that without knowing the velocity and the ballistic coefficient.

100% agree. Another way to test on target energy would be to use clay or ballistic gelatin. Shee if there is enough velocity and or energy to open a HP slug on impact. Those Hades are great for dumping energy and they are only 16gr so in lesser powered .22 rifles, they will have higher velocity vs a 21 or 22gr slug. I would like to see a clay block and have examples of each pellet to compare. 40 yards should not be a problem, but the impact at 60 and 75 yards is something I want to see. Get some clay or Ballistic Gelatin! He is excited he hit the target, but he has NO idea the velocity at which those pellets are travelling.

I'm not really worried about ethical for squirrels. I wont shoot any bunnies if I know I cant put them down quickly and cleanly, but squirrels are a nuisance and a pest, they can squirm for all I care.

Be cool if they made a break barrel for slugs, I shot over 100 yards at the edge of the pond behind my house with jsb knockouts. 177 and the smack and splash from it was amazing compared to a pellet, wish they would've grouped that would've been all I shot, was shooting from a gamo magnum with 10.3 grain slugs 974 fps avg

Hey Ben, Great video. But, I think that this video could be more conclusive as to whether you can harvest humanely if you were able to chrony and get the fpe. Better yet, if you can do a penetration and expansion test in gel at various ranges and recommend the best weight for slugs and pellets. Thanks again for the excellent video. These h&n slugs are made for normal barrels. I bought the nsa slugs and these are not made for them. Too big. Thats why FX has special slug liners to shoot those slugs with i assume.

Theese targets fall easilly once been hitten. It takes 1and a half to two footpounds minimum to drop them.. of cource the Sig is capable to hunt at theese distances but other springers arent... best test for me is a 500ml hard plastic bottle full with water...at a distance that the slug or the pellet of your air riffle passes through it then you can take easilly at this distance a rabbit... i have a diana 52 in 4.5 cal and at an altitude of 900 meters thats almost 3.000feet i hunt hares.. at a distance of 50 meters the pellet passes through the head. I use jsb 10.35 grains...it delivers almost 20 ftlbs at the muzzle...i also have a diana 350 in .22 i use h&n slugs. . 218 21 grains...i get 25 ftlbs.... with it, i hunt with confidence 15 meters farther... concider the altimeter.. the loss of power is about 7-8% and it can reach 10%. In heavy winter conditions.. But after the exit the air is thinner so that balances things at a medium base. I do not recomend the use of springers at an altitude more than 3.000 feet...the piston slums... anyway... great video....i enjoy your videos...best wishes..

Yes some air rifle scopes are not rated for spring powered guns as the vibration of the spring and piston can break the glass

The problem is that accuracy suffer when dieseling. I tried it with many air guns.

I don’t wish to offend anybody but I don’t see the point of this video - to mean anything at all it should contain hard information about velocity, down range energy levels, group size/accuracy etc. Aiming at knock down targets doesn’t really cut for me 🤷‍♂️.
