Hope you don't have a case of molluscophobia, because we're tackling Juan Piquer Simon's murderous invertebrate movie Slugs in today's installment of Sick Flicks!
Released in 1988, Slugs finds a town under siege by mutated slugs. Needless to say, it's a slimy good time.
But is this film ready for slime time viewing? Can these guys glide their way to a five barf bag rating? Tune in and find out!

Hutson's books, as I remember, are only worth reading for the gross-out factor. Would compare him to James Herbert ("Rats" trilogy). If that's what you're looking for, check him out. Would skip "Spawn" though, the premise was beyond ridiculous, even for 70's - 80's pulp horror novels.

I work in a greenhouse, where we find slugs all the time, especially on rainy days. I even got one in my glove once (a nasty surprise) so this movie is a bit nightmarish for me! Also, slugs really do carry parasitic worms that burrow into the brain so always wash your hands after touching them! :-P
@nikolademitri731
@nikolademitri731 3 жыл бұрын
I recall an Australian boy who died a couple years back after a near decade battle with parasites he got from a slug.. If I recall the article correctly, kid was like 19-20, good student, athlete, good life, etc, but he ate a slug on a dare or something like that, and literally he suffered a horrific death. I believe it was some kind of lungworm parasite that he got from the slug. He basically just slowly deteriorated, lost the ability to walk, talk, eat on his own, basically was a dementia addled vegetable in a few years, then finally died like 8-10 years after he ate the slug once he hit to the point he needed life support to survive... Really sad and really horrifying story, and it especially freaked me out bc I was the kid who’d eat anything or do other dumb crap on a dare, and I ate earthworms and ants and spiders even… thank god I never ate a slug!!!

I honestly believe Slugs to be the most vicious and dangerous predators of Humans on the planet. There are only two reasons why we do not hear more horror stories of Slug related deaths. 1) They're not very smart. They don't plan ahead, use tools or try luring their prey in for the kill. 2) And this is the most important thing to remember if you ever find yourself in a life or death situation where a Slug has the upper hand. Slugs are very very slow.

When I was in college, there'd be snails and slugs all over the place on rainy days, and I'd stop to move them off the sidewalk and into the gardens or grass. One evening I was walking back to my dorm when this guy walking with a couple of girls picked one up off the ground and chucked it into the bushes. The following exchange went like this. Me: Hey! Did you just throw a snail?? D:< Guy: 0.0 Yeah... Me: What's the matter with you?? Guy: I'm sorry... Yeah, be nice to snails and slugs, or this movie might just happen...or you'll get yelled at in front of your friends by a skinny mad woman.

I love this movie! The perfect combination of 50s style monster mayhem, 80s kitsch and solid gore. For what it’s worth the production values are pretty good too. The cinematography on some of those long shots of the Aries K are just beautiful. Still uses some of the already hackneyed plot devices from Jaws but fun just the same. I’m surprised you didn’t mention that the movie was adapted from an already existing novel. Those style paperbacks from the 80s are a lost art form just like the movies they spawned.

Years ago I had the actual paperback of Slugs by Shaun Hutson and it's sequel: Breeding Ground. I've never seen the film, but I know it's not even a fraction as gory as the novel-- one scene has a guy sitting on a toilet and he gets a slug attached to his sack and it proceeds to chew it, and also a slug lodges in his anus and eats its way through his rectum. That is just ONE scene. Hutson had a thing for blood and shit.

Someone said they were June bug larvae, but they were much bigger than an adult June bug, so I don't know... Those suckers were the size of jumbo shrimp, and when you uncovered them, they didn't just sit there blinking...they would sproing right out at you like one of those "snake in a can" gags. The other day I commented on a movie my wife was watching using a line I borrowed from you: "Here's detective Plot to deliver some expositioooon." She didn't appreciate it, women are funny that way. Next I'll try "nonsensical plot line," "pimp hand," or "random driving." Lol, thanks for the upload, all your vids are quite hilarious and inspiring :-)

I love J.P. Simon movies! My favorite is "Endless Descent" a.k.a. "The Rift". He also made some Jules Verne movies such as "Mystery On Monster Island", which aren't very bloody, but still fun. If you haven't already done a video for "The Rift" you should.
