Slumped bottles are easy, right? It seems like an early fuser right of passage? Well, I don’t do them often, but I thought I’d film this round (and guess what - I screwed it up so we can all learn from my mistake!). Honestly, I wasn’t TRYING to mess up! Always a learning experience, even when I’m trying to do it right the first time!
Mold - not sure where this mold came from, as I bought it used from someone else.
Firing schedule - I used this exact schedule in the Creative Paradise tip sheet: spuaf.axcqn.servertrust.com/v/...

I’ll admit that I’m making an assumption here, but they also aren’t going to be cooking with it or adding hot food, so I’d be less concerned about the occasional contact with a cracker, carrot stick, or chunk of cheese?

@@JamaisonSchuler I think they're food safe, as the devit over glaze covers the area, this devit solution is a low lead based product that's food safe. I think someone else is asking the same question, but can you use devit solution on an already devitrified surface, then fire it to clear? Or would you need to remove the devit first with cold work? Great video BTW!

You should do a search for “super spray devitrification”, there are probably plenty of online retailers that sell it. I’ve seen some formulas for a homemade version using borax but I’ve never tried it myself.

Thank you for all your wonderful videos Jamaison! New to glass fusing, your videos are inspiring! Just got my new kiln. Want to fuse bottles. Am afraid bottles will roll in kiln while heating up - resulting in sticking to kiln walls or dripping down to kiln floor... is that a possibility? if it is, what can I do to keep round bottles from rolling while kiln is firing up? Thank you!
@JamaisonSchuler

I’ve been taught that a few grains of kiln wash or a grain of frit can keep a bottle from rolling if placed right.

Do you ever slump Gray goose bottles , I am having a problem lately with the paint burning , I slumped an Absolute vodka bottle 2 days ago using the same firing schedule and it turned out beautiful, today I slumped a gray goose and all the darker colors burned off , I have done a few of these with no problem, I thought the paint chemistry had changed.
@JamaisonSchuler
@JamaisonSchuler 2 жыл бұрын
I have not, but I have heard that bottles can come from different manufacturers who might use different paint/enamel’s and so therefore your results could be very different even on the same brand.

Jamaison, can you cold work the nasty stuff on the bottom and even where the two bottles stuck together? Seems like all the bad stuff would grind off. I'm playing with silicon carbid grit on a granite slab, though you can use the grit on a piece of glass. I can't believe how quickly silicon carbide and elbow grease grind and polish glass. I'm with you on the kiln wash thing...messy when it gets on the bottom. Devit there too. Thas the only thing that bothers me about slumping bottles.
