I’m surprised, being from the south, that there’s actually a recipe. In my Alabama family, it’s “some of this” and “about that much.”😊
@kathrynmettelka7216

My pound cake recipe for pound cake came from Alabama via my godmother and is very traditional. A pound each of the major ingredients - butter, sugar, flour, and eggs. I think there was some milk. My recipe was lost with Hurricane Katrina. I also lost my recipe for chocolate pound cake that is terrific, but I know my cousin has it. These old recipes bring back memories.

Kylie Flavell's Italian Lemon Ricotta Cake is drop dead gorgeous and may be a tad lighter !! I love that you made your grandmother's cake for your father - the handwritten note looks like it belongs in a recipe book beside a photo of happy times when this food was enjoyed. Don't forget to take one your Dad and you, print it and tuck them together.

I think I’m going to try your recipe, I’ll have to get some cake flour though. I love lemon flavored things especially my Moms lemon meringue pie. Sadly she isn’t with us anymore, but she could bake the BEST pies in the world. Her pie crust was extremely flaky, something I can’t accomplish 😢. 🍁🍂🍁💚🙃

My Mom used to use butter in her pound cakes. Well back then it was margarine. My brother and I always used to call margarine salve. I’m thinking in her pound cakes butter might have been better. But regardless it was good.🍁🍂🍁💚🙃

Hi Matthew! I love those little evergreens and where you're going to/already have planted them. The ground cover St. John's Wort is a pretty little shrub. I like the way that area is shaping up. The area with the little maple is pretty. It's always fun seeing what you're doing/planning for the different gardens. I liked the peek of your kitchen. Your Grandma's lemon pound cake looks delicious! I appreciate you sharing the recipe with us. When I make my coffee cakes for Christmas, I line the bottom of the pan with wax paper, spray with Pam and flour it. It makes removal so easy. Someone else mentioned something similar, too. Thank you so much for sharing!

A tip my mom used is to take wax paper and cut a circle for the outside and fold it into quarters and cut the inside circle, (you can use the bottom of the pan and the back spoon to actually mark the line) and you will never have a stuck cake again. Do grease and flour the paper too after the bottom is also greased and floured. I love a pound cake with that lovely crisp top! I like to use pretty pots with flowers planted as fillers and that way you aren't concerned with the heavy soil for your annuals. Depending on the colorful markings of the pot for added interest, some of the brightly colored and patterned Mexican-style pots with complementary colored flowers look amazing in the landscape. Just a thought, even if you planted the perennials in it instead, less digging in your hard soils or disturbing the roots of neighboring plants.

Hello Matthew, Your garden looks amazing as always. I recommend new guinea impatiens or sun patiens as annuals in your garden. They do very well in clay soil, do not require fertilizer and basically are not fussy at all. They also last all season long. It’s October 7th and I’m in Michigan zone 6 and they are still looking amazing!! Also, I’m definitely trying the cake! It looks delicious!!

Have you tried mixing sand in your soil to help irrrrigste clay soil.
@TheSouthernersNorthernGarden
@TheSouthernersNorthernGarden Жыл бұрын
You never add sand to clay soil. It can make it much more difficult for drainage and make it more difficult to dig - think concrete. Organic matter like compost and other organic amendments is what should be added instead.
