Have you personally tested the cold charging cut-off and warming? Your freezer is your friend. Will Prowse has popped open several Chinese batteries that claim low-temp cutoff (which you'll need when your battery's heater gives up the ghost). You're "paying" a premium for cold weather protection, and It might be a good idea to test that functionality.

No need. Out good buddy will process has already done a tear down tested the low temp to confirmIt works . He gave it a pretty solid review over the other budget batteries in his showdown.

no conversion is necessary to run a DC device on the River 2. I currently do it.

Yep! There is the lighter socket. I have an ankler one that is similar. Example was more what most users would do who are not diy minded to make adapter cables. Main point of the comparison was about the why and 5 -5x the run time. Since the referees rivers seems to be a hot topic lately

Great video. Thanks for sharing this. Can you post the link to the video where you made the EcoTech back-up wires battery terminal setup please?

Hey man love your videos! I have been window shopping for some time now for a UPS situation. Can this battery live plugged in and have everything run through it so when the power runs out, the battery kicks in? kinds like a UPS. I only intend to run my return, ato, and heater with this thing. Unless it's a seriously long power outage then I'll plug in my light fixture.

What pumps are you using? and what voltage are they?
@region2129
@region2129 22 күн бұрын
hi, please tell me, did you connect the pumps directly to the battery? How does he understand that now there is no need to power the pumps or is there a system in the pumps that recognizes that the mains power has been lost and automatically switches to the battery?
@ReefDudes
@ReefDudes 22 күн бұрын
Ecotech pumps have a built in battery backup port in the drivers which auto switch over when power is lost. So you can directly connect it.

You would want to use a voltage booster to take the 12v and boost it to 24v

@@cephhead This specific one i have only had for a month or two now, some of my other lifepo4s i have had for quite a while now and they have saved the tank with providing critical flow a few times now. I have a bit of a battery backup obsession after seeing some other local reefers lose their tanks from not having flow for multiple days due to fires a year or two back.

Dev mentioned the EcoFlow in the video, and he makes a valid point via a misstatement. He's correct that a larger battery will power pumps longer and that there's an efficiency loss if you're powering your pump via the EcoFlow pure sine wave AC outlets. I've measured that loss at 20-30% depending on your system. That sucks. What Dev didn't share is that you don't need to use the AC outlets. The EcoFlow has a DC outlet, so powering your VorTechs is as easy as the appropriate wire(s). I have them. It works great. Then there's a what's good for the buyer aspect. Speaking as someone who has purchased a 100Ah battery, there's no way I'd pay $350 for the Vatrer. That's double the price of other 100Ah (100Ah*12V=1,200Wh) LiFePO4 batteries on Amazon today. And back to the size point...Dev mentioned the 256Wh version of the EcoFlow River 2 ($119 on Ebay today), but I paid $279 for the 768Wh EcoFlow. That's $0.36/Wh vs the Vatrer's $0.29/Wh, but the EcoFlow has a built-in very fast charger, it offers many more power options than just a battery alone, other batteries or solar can be connected to the EcoFlow to increase capacity, and the EcoFlow has a great app. Want the downside? I wasn't sponsored by EcoFlow, so you need to take that into consideration when making a purchasing decision. That, and I don't know anything about EcoFlow availability north of the border, but here in the lower 48, I know what I'd buy.

I know you love the river 2 and it’s a cool product but it’s not all apples to apples. They are different products for different use cases. The river 2 you keep referencing is a refurbished eBay deal not “new”. It also can’t be used in below freezing temps. May not be an issue where you live but I plan on moving mine to the carport to be charged from solar so it’s a very important feature for that month or two of cooler temp to not damage the battery and allow it to keep doing its thing long term. And yes it’s cheaper but it’s 1/5 the power capacity… so not really a direct comparison. Different solutions for different scenarios :)

@@ReefDudes I'm sure you know this, but I'm here to correct misinformation (and maybe have a little non-sponsored budget alternative fun). As a correction, I offer that the River 2 Pro, with free shipping, is 2/3 the capacity of the Vatrer you're peddling and the EcoFlow is $31 less. I'm assuming you'd recommend the Noco 10A charger, so with that the River 2 Pro is $130 less than the Vatrer. That's charged 12V battery to charged 12V battery apples to apples. Although I'm more of a fan of budget e-power solutions than I am of EcoFlow, the River 2 deal on Ebay is factory-refurbished and sweet! I've been very clear about that, and I've purchased two of the refurbished units along with one new. Same same and all three have reasonable warranties. $119 for the battery that looks down upon the Ecotech option and $315 for the largest River 2. Both function as legitimate UPS and both, through means of which I know you're aware, can support multi-voltage devices. And you know that I get it...your how is very specific to your use. I could be wrong, but it's safe to say that what you need does not represent the hobby's needs. RVers, which I am, get the need for warming and/or cold temp charging cutoff, but I don't need that in my garage or home when supporting my tank. :)
