This is one of the first rearview mirror dash cams that also features integrated wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto into its 11-inch display. Inside there is a Sony CMOS sensor for up to 4K video recording with a high-dynamic range for clear night recording and a viewing angle of 160 degrees. This display features FM audio transmission to pass sound from content on the display such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to your car speakers via the car’s FM radio.
The R9 is a decent and quite discreet way to get CarPlay or Android Auto in your car rather than a standalone dashboard or windscreen-mounted display. Perfect CarPlay supplement. Adds no screens or clutter to the stock interior. Removed quicker than anything else. My only holdout is for better audio transmission from the phone and from the mirror to the sound system. Neither audio streams can handle Apple Music at the Lossless level. But hey upgrades and refinements should be just around the corner.

Yes. This could have been much better. Hopefully future revisions will bring improvements in these areas. I’m finding out that BT audio from these things is a fickle beast. One unit I have just doesn’t work with the majority of in car BT audio

It will likely use the mic on the mirror. Quality is OK considering it’s further away from you than the stock mic in the car

Could I use carplay in this mirror for GPS driving directions while also using my iPhone to play music via bluetooth to the car stereo simultaneously?

That wouldn’t work if you wanted to listen to music and get directions over speakers. Becuase the audio source would be set to BT on the stereo and you would need it on radio to hear the transmission from the coral vision R9. A possible alternative is nav audio from the R9 internal speaker and music from BT source from phone. Connection would have to be done manually after wirleess carplay connects and frees up the BT pairing.

Really smart but no Aux out or bluetooth out makes it a totally incomplete product. It is in my opinion necessary features.

I had another information that no AUX is ok because smartphone connect via wifi with CarPlay device and phone can connect to car deck via Bluetooth at same time , it can provide good sound. This is from another product, this unit can be ok or not I don’t know, but might be treated same way.

Out of all of these external carplay/android auto units, which would you say has the best audio quality when used via AUX? I've heard that most of these units sound terrible whether via aux or fm.

Honestly they have all sounded ok to me. Granted I don’t have a high end speaker system in my car but I know what sounds good or bad and I’ve not hear that much bad things on the ones I’ve used personally. Obviously you can hear the compression and interference from FM but even that’s been improving over the years. I’ve only heard from coral vision and Carpuride screens though. I think it also comes down to the stereo it’s plugged into and how it can handle what it’s being given audio wise.

@@CarPlayLife Thanks for the fast reply! Hoping one day this mirror unit or similar will get BT and/or AUX transmission for audio now that I hear it's not all that bad. Think i've decided this unit is the form factor I want, but it's missing the features to get the most out of music :(

No idea at the moment. It hasn’t shipped to me yet and I hear their have been delays 😞 I do have a dual BT from Carpuride coming next week.

I'm looking for a smart mirror that streams videos like Paramount+ etc, can operate all phone downloaded apps and can play movies from a flash drive. All the smart mirrors Ive seen and have owned do none of that. Does one even exist?

Nope that sounds like trying to own a unicorn horn. Putting video streaming in ai boxes for CarPlay is one thing but to have it in a review mirror is just asking for trouble. We might see it made by some crazy person one day but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

The recordings are stored on SD card. So if it’s stolen you will lose recordings along with it.

Either though the mirror speaker which isn’t great or loud if you have music on or through AUX or FM transmission

@@CarPlayLife thank you! It seems as though I have my notifications on and I am able to hear the input of other apps such as Spotify on my speakers using the FM transmitter but I’m unable to hear turn my turn directions on google maps although they are turned on.

@@CarPlayLife i have another question you see how this camera has the 3.5 jack mines doesn't have that and doesn't have the usb type c for power it there an adapter i can buy because i still want to buy a bigger mirror but dont want to run new cables and take the old ones out . ill make a short video to show you how mines look hopefully you waych and reply thanks for replying to my 1st question

This update only switches the sides of where CarPlay is displayed. If you still want that let me know and I’ll see if I have the file still.

Try this we.tl/t-YuS9nZUj6x a. Please unzip the file and put all the files (without the directory) into the root directory of the TF card. b. Insert TF card to R9, then plug in the power, it will automatically upgrade the firmware.
