Smart ForTwo 450 - Entire Engine Rebuild After It Blew Up - Mega Video

2 ай бұрынA couple of years back I bought this little Smart 450 ForTwo from Facebook Marketplace for the bargain price of £700.
It has since then been my daily 'hack' and I commute about 100 miles a day with it.
I have covered over 30,000 problem-free miles in the past 2 years with it ... until recently, when the engine decided to eat itself and go bang!
Its now totally broken and needs a full engine rebuild (among other things)

It's a case of better the devil you know. As my father used to say. You will get your usage out of it and savings in fuel over time. Plus it makes brilliant vid content. I Love it because Daddy Coupland is the Boss mechanic showing us the way to go❤😂Ruth

I think you made the right choice fixing the purple pain! Starting again with another one could've been more costly as you would probably have to do all your previous fixes again anyway!

I made the mistake of selling my early 450 years ago when the 598cc engine imploded. Many years later it turned up at Smart Tecnic to sort out the engine, owner of the garage recognised the number plate and let me know, and I ended up buying it back again! Next time I'll just rebuild it, but logistics were against me first time around.

@@JonCoupland Yeah it's a keeper, irrespective of what breaks or needs replacing. Don't really need it as I work from home, but enjoy tinkering with cars, so have that and a 452 that's now on 160,000 miles and will also be used until petrol is no longer viable. Flawed little cars, but absolutely love them - perfect for today's speed limit obsessed society.

Memories triggered. Was done for high oil consumption in my case and post ten years off the road I’m still working through things - exhaust looking like the next part needing replacement. Not sure where you sourced yours/ if it has been fine since? Like others, mine is never forsale. Tempted to spend serious money on an Smann upgraded exhaust for that reason; I can almost justify the eye-watering cost for the best quality

Genuine exhaust now no longer available from Smart sadly. Have to buy pattern Cat Backs. The cheap and cheerful one cost £100 and has lasted around 3 years. I'm literally about to replace it tomorrow
