I have routines built in including giving warnings prior to “events” such as bedtime so that there is a cue for reminding my kid when it is time to go to bed. It also means 1. It reminds me to get him to bed and 2. He tells “Lexa, it not dark yet!” or various other complaints.

For me i would have designed a red button to put my kids into the fiery depths of hell when they messed around....activate Slayer hell awaits, fog machine, red/orange flickering lighting, smart door locks!! Good job Stu, fantastic video. Good job smart tech like this wasn't available when my kids were young!

An Aqara cube (with appropriate stickers) could be fun in triggering the lights when she has the motor skills to get the knack of it!

Great idea ive only smartified my kids rooms for my convenience, via esp home / esp 8266 with physical button panel to trigger white noise, music playlist and her night light. Handy for th grandparents. But definitely gave me some inspiration to make some stuff for them.

@@StusReviewsUK I am pretty much the same, I think it stems from being brought up in the middle of the countryside where ambient light is minimal. my flatmate is total opposite and cannot sleep without a light on. Still like the idea of a night mode though

Great episode. Funny enough, one of the things that got me into Home Automation was adding these kinds of effect to my home bar. Have you thought about adding projections like a moon or fish onto an open wall space? I also have some so battery powered candles, and legos (with LED kit) that i made smart with AA(A) battery to usb converter and smart plugs.

Stu, I think you should reach out to Reed of Smart Home Solver to have him highlight your setup for your daughter. I think this video is great and should really be getting promoted! Excellent job Stu! Your daughter will love this! As to automations, we have a young special needs foster son and something I did was set up an automation for him with sound detection on the echo dot so that if he cries at night from a bad dream, one of the lights on our ceiling in our master bedroom lights up enough to wake me up - funny how it has only once woken my wife up....
@StusReviewsUK
@StusReviewsUK 10 ай бұрын
That’s a good one! I’ve used something similar up until now, as she loves wave sounds, so when she cries at night it turns on wave sounds automatically to see if that might sooth her a bit before I have to check her!

The main reason I started building my smart home was to save on energy bills, the kids leaving lights on when leaving rooms was the main factor so motion sensors were the first thing I added

On many KZfaq channels Smart home tech gets quickly reduced to controlling LED strips. This has become the default for a few years now. The best Smart home function you used was the if the door opens at a certain time you get notified. There are great things which can be done such as if the alarm is activated at home and the camera sees someone outside the window then it closes the curtains so the person first get spooked off and if not cannot peak inside to see what is worth stealing, as well as the normal push notification to a phone. How does your Milk Goblin reach those drawers you put up on the wall?

Hi Stu, your video has inspired me for my son's new playroom. Quick question, can the aqara button trigger Alexa routines(I assume you are using Alexa routines to start audio playing from the echo dot)?
@StusReviewsUK
@StusReviewsUK 9 ай бұрын
Yes it does - but it’s a bit of a workaround because they don’t work natively. You have to use the Aqara integration with IFTTT and then us the Alexa actions applet by mkzense to port that into Alexa. .

Hi Stu trying to add as many smart automations as possible but keep getting stuck as far as AQara goes as they don't provide smart plugs or bulbs,any ideas why since your so close to them would it be a inconvenience to ask them why or when they will start selling them ifor the UK

@@StusReviewsUK Thanks Stu - just for the hell of it, I have been googling around to see how to colour some of this ubequitous white plastic - it looks reasonable to do, but no way can you colour the electronics bits and bobs LOL. There must be a way to colour these things otherwise it all looks like a bathroom piece. I'm still looking.
