In the face of the Horn of Africa's worst drought in 70 years, Habiba Kanchora Wario and millions of others struggled to access clean water. However, her life changed when a solar-powered Smart Tap system was installed near her home in Kenya.
Smart Tap, resembling a vending machine for water, allows people to obtain water with a tap of an electronic token. Managed by a local Water Committee, the system has reduced gender-based violence, empowered women, and made water collection safer and easier. Action Against Hunger plans to scale the system to address water crises in other regions, offering hope and resilience for more communities.
