Awesome! Put a little time on it to let it settle in and then you're good to make your final adjustments. The Factory1 Sherco racers are ending up in the mid 90s on clicker counts, so you'll likely go a few clicks leaner before you're dialed. Keep the fuel turned off while not riding. Good luck and keep us posted!

Hi Bertrand, thanks for your interest and happy to answer your questions here. Our next planned video will detail installation into a 2020 Beta 300RR so be sure to follow along for it. To your question, however, there are no special instructions. SC2 fitment into the recent Betas is straightforward, especially if you have the Race Edition and do not require TPS. It's a direct fit and it will accept the stock throttle cable. We need to know a few things in order to pre-calibrate it for you right out of the box: nature of any engine mods, riding style, and fuel type/oil ratio mixed. I'm wanting to get a Technology Elevated Smart Carb 2 for my 2011 KTM-300xc but it is also is going to need the top end rebuilt. The Keihin 36mm. carb on my 300 is a great carb but I do like how the SC2 carb can be jetted on the fly so to speak plus the fact that it's self contained carb makes it nice also. The $700 price isn't too bad so that won't keep me from buying one, the biggest issue is putting the throttle cable on properly.

We're happy to get your 2011 KTM 300 XC SmartCarb equipped. Yes you can tune it trail-side in seconds and without tools and once dialed in, you do not need to make further adjustments for elevation/temperature changes. The SC2 model accepts your stock throttle cable no problem. All you have to do is adjust the slack to your liking. The SC2 works great with any reeds also, stock V-Force or Boyesen. How does this installation vary with earlier models? Also is the SE250 Factory use different internal settings?
@SmartCarbFuelSystems
@SmartCarbFuelSystems 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Michael, no variation from the standard rules of thumb, meaning ensuring no vent scoop obstruction inside of the airboot, considering trimming the floor of the intake flange if necessary, and making sure there's no hard contact with the carb and the frame/engine/casing/etc. We've found also that the carb does come close to contacting the fuel tank on earlier Shercos and so some tilting of it away from the tank may be required. The SC2 model SmartCarb featured in this video is a direct replacement of the Keihin PWK and accepts the stock throttle cable no problem. Our baseline settings for the SE300 would be the same for the SE250 provided they are set up similarly. Upon ordering we ask about any notable engine/exhaust mods, how you ride, and what fuel type/oil ratio you're mixing. From there we cross reference prior testing done in-house as well as what our customers on similar applications are having success with in order to pre-calibrate the SmartCarb specific to your bike and your needs. Save for an initial break-in period of about an hour of moderate riding and a little fine tuning for a crisp/clean/responsive bottom end using the clicker, the carb will arrive very close to dialed in right out of the box.

If i buy SC from you will you adjust carb for fuel i'm running and elevation? Than I just install carb and i can drive? Or do i need to adjust anything?
@SmartCarbFuelSystems
@SmartCarbFuelSystems 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jernej, yes we will pre-calibrate the SC2 SmartCarb specifically for your bike. When you order we ask for some information to help us with our baselines. We need to know the year/make/model, what engine modifications you're using (if any), your riding style or how you ride the bike, and what fuel type and oil ratio you're mixing (if applicable). That gives us everything we need to set the carb up. Also we don't factor in elevation because the SmartCarb compensates for any air density factor including elevation so you will not need to make adjustments for those factors. The carb will be very close to ideal right out of the box but we do tend to set them slightly on the rich side. You want to run the carb for about an hour or so to let the tight tolerances wear in. After that most customers will click the metering rod in the leaner direction to clean up the bottom end and that's it. All adjustments are made externally without needing any tools. Every SmartCarb ships with a comprehensive installation manual (available to view here: technologyelevated.com/support/) and we are available to answer any installation or tuning questions you may have.

SC2 is asignificant investment. is it possible to transfer/adapt it to another bike/brand/model? and/or what would be the procedure? Lets sey from a Sherco to a KTM?
@SmartCarbFuelSystems
@SmartCarbFuelSystems 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for asking Can. Yes the SC2 is a substantial investment and yes you are able to transfer it from bike to bike easily. Many of our customers do that. Provided the size of SC2 you order is correct for the new bike you're transferring it to, we can provide you new baseline settings specific to that new bike and advise you on any fitment or tuning related questions you may have. SC2s also accept all modern 2-stroke stock throttle cables. To your example: for most Shercos and KTMs we recommend the 36mm size SC2 with no TPS. We know that the Sherco typically needs an A-Q09 metering rod while most stock KTMs require the A-Q11. Upon transferring you can call or email us letting us know the specifics of your new bike (engine mods, riding style, fuel selection) and we will give you new settings or sell you a new metering rod if necessary, and per our exchange program you may return the first metering rod to us for a full refund. Changing the rod is easy and only requires two common tools: 3mm allen wrench and snap-ring pliers. If you move to a Beta or YZ250 or a different bike that requires TPS, all SC2s ship TPS-compatible. You can contact us for the correct TPS and it bolts onto the outside of the carb and plugs right into the stock connector. These carbs are very adaptable and we have made them as future-proof as possible.

Am I violating any warranty from Sherco by replacing the stock carburettor with yours?
@SmartCarbFuelSystems
@SmartCarbFuelSystems 3 жыл бұрын
That's a question we haven't seen before. Installing an aftermarket component like the SmartCarb won't violate or void your warranty, however if a malfunction occurs that can be directly attributed to the SmartCarb or any other aftermarket component, the associated repairs may not be covered, but the warranty doesn't void or expire because of that. After some research and contact with a few of our dealers that are also bike dealers, that's the understanding we've arrived at. We would encourage checking with your local dealer or rep for more specific information.

Hi! I have a Sherco 250 SE 2021. I ran into a problem. I ride at an altitude of 600-3200 meters. In the main, there are long ascents with an angle of 35-40%. Trails with a constant climb, logs and permutations with traverses. A gold S3 cylinder head is installed. With a long adjustment of the carburetor in the mountains, my mixture remains richer. Is very poor traction and detonation, as if it suffocates. I made leaner, I could not achieve good results. Already on the flat terrain, it was possible to achieve only a normal explosion from the first gear, then a slow acceleration is going on in 2 and 3 gear, in a hill with a long climb, the traction disappears and begins to stall. I compare it in the same conditions with Keihin. The carburetor was pre-configured and came with a needle for Sherco 300 SE 2021, I have 250 SE 2021. A-Q09 needle is used, in my opinion I need A-Q11 or Q13. Factory clicks: 15, idle set-screw:. 122. When setting up, I made about 60 clicks and this is not enough, the fuel mixture still does not burn out, it is very rich. Sluggish acceleration and undermining, the same thing in first gear. I compare it with a stock pre-tuned Keihin carburetor, difference is very large, I think that most likely it is due to the needle and the preset for the Sherco 300. I have already written to support Smartcarb. I attached photos and videos. Smartcarb is covered in oil, in the area of the float bowl. I did the cleaning, drained the float bowl and checked the level. Done the trim on the air boot and enter flange, adjusted and adjusted to the dimensions, everything is as per the instructions and checked that it does not overlap Please give recommendations, what should I do with the settings? And perhaps you can send the necessary needles for a fee, so that I can achieve stable operation from the carburetor. There are several Smartcarb units in our country, there is no one to consult and diagnose what the problem may be.
@SmartCarbFuelSystems
@SmartCarbFuelSystems 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Nikolay, thank you for commenting here as well. We are in email communication about your settings needing to be at 75, not 15. Forgive our bad handwriting. 15 will be much too rich and going 45 leaner to 60 clicks is still a rich setting. You should end up somewhere between 75 and 85 clicks before you are dialed. The A-Q09 metering rod that your SmartCarb has in it is probably correct for your setup, particularly when using the high compression S3 insert but we can continue our discussion on trying the step leaner A-Q11 as well. First thing to do is to set the A-Q09 to the best clicker position for idle quality and off-idle throttle response (under load). From there we can assess correct metering rod selection.

Hola, thank you for being a SmartCarb user. We recommend setting the clicker to 82 clicks from full rich. Full rich is adjusted clockwise until it stops. That is clicker count 0. From there, go 82 clicks counterclockwise. That should be close to an ideal setting. The trim inside of the airboot (between carburetor and air filter) is critical for the Sherco bikes. The trim of the floor of the intake flange (between carburetor and reed block) is not as critical but it is a good ideal. Using a dremel tool, you may lower the floor of the intake flange to match the floor of the SmartCarb’s venturi. That will smooth the air and fuel mixture flow out at low throttle positions. We hope this information helps.

How much benefit does this carb actually provide. Is it really worth all the extra money. If these carbs were so good then why are all the manufacturers not using them.
@SmartCarbFuelSystems
@SmartCarbFuelSystems 3 жыл бұрын
The benefits that the SmartCarb provides are pretty well spelled out in our About page: technologyelevated.com/about/ and also contrasted with its more well-known predecessor, the Lectron in this article here: technologyelevated.com/smartcarb-vs-lectron/ The SmartCarb is as close to fuel injection in terms of performance and ease of use than any other carburetor in this market, and others, provides. Benefits include more power delivered more linearly, greater fuel economy, full air density compensation for factors including elevation and temperature, external adjustability requiring no tools, zero fuel spillage, extreme durability from the CNC machining manufacturing process, and more. In our opinion and in the minds of our thousands of customers in over 50 countries, it's worth the cost. That said it is an expensive unit and we do plan over time to introduce alternative manufacturing processes and materials to bring costs down. Right now the focus is all about performance and making waves in the market. As far as carburetor companies go, we're quite new. The other companies that supply OEMs have been in the business for decades. We are pursuing OEM adoptions in a number of ways and anticipate getting there either in the off-road 2-stroke market as well as others. Our focus right now is sponsoring, testing, and proving out the benefits with these companies' top racers.

Unfortunately we weren't able to dyno this Sherco, only having it for a short time before Letko Cycles needed it back; but we do have dyno tests for other applications including GasGas, KTM, Yamaha, and more. We guarantee 10% more power on top but often times we'll see even more than that in the mid - recently and notably on a 2018 Yamaha YZ125 where we found 16% more power over stock using a 36mm SC. It was performed via third party at a shop here in Kansas City on a Mustang Dyno and the test method was step. Here's a link: facebook.com/SmartCarb/photos/a.1509561566001068/1905324176424803/?type=3&theater The green line denotes the SC while blue and red are the stock carb and they were taken before and after the SC pull to ensure no changing ambient air density factors were affecting performance of the stock carb. 8500 RPM was where we saw the largest increase but you can see the SC was making more power everywhere.

STIC metering block v Lectron v your smart Carb, why is yours better ? About to purchase a 2020 Gas Gas EC 300..
@SmartCarbFuelSystems
@SmartCarbFuelSystems 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Mixalis, your timing is good. Our next video coming out soon covers the installation of a 38mm SC2 into the 2020 GasGas EC300 so be sure to follow along for that. The STIC metering block is interesting and does appear to provide some benefits over stock, most notably, when looking on the forums, an increase in power related to an always on pilot system that they claim creates a more frothy mix. However the forum chatter also indicates that best results with the STIC are achieved by using higher octane fuels and that fuel economy is negatively impacted compared to stock. At the end of the day the Keihin is still a Keihin and the reality of jetting doesn't go away with the STIC. The Lectron is a good carb and it was certainly ahead of its day when it was first released in '74. It's worth noting that both the Lectron and the SmartCarb share a common lineage, both having been invented in large part by William Edmonston (also having created the Ei Blue Magnum and Quik Silver 1 and 2 among others). The SmartCarb is decades more advanced and furthered in development compared to the Lectron and while they share some similarities, the most notable being the use of a metering rod, there are more differences than are readily apparent. The SmartCarb (SC) is an internally vented and sealed fuel system, meaning the float bowl is vented from inside of the airbox/boot. The Lectron, like a conventional carb, vents its float bowl to atmosphere via overflow hoses hanging in front of the rear wheel. Internal venting in the SC does a few things: It's the second half of the air density compensation equation. Both the Lectron and the SC will, by way of using a metering rod, compensate for air density to a degree, but in the SC the float bowl sees the same air density that the carb venturi sees inside of the airbox and that lets it compensate for a wider range of elevations and temperatures without requiring adjustment. To be sure the Lectron does a better job at this than a Keihin or a Mikuni, but despite their claims, they do require adjustment for best performance with large air density changes. Internal venting in the SC helps to drive fuel flow proportional to air density and also air velocity. This fuel driving force allows the SC to be a true single circuit carb, meaning there is no need for a power jet for top end fueling like in the Lectron. The SC also doesn't spill fuel if/when the bike should tip over. Both carbs use metering rods and both carbs see the benefit in terms of finer atomization of the fuel coming off the rod, serving to increase fuel economy and make for more complete combustion. However the benefits of metering rod atomization are fully realized in the SC bottom to top, whereas with the Lectron, the use of the power jet for top end fueling makes for poorer atomization, meaning it does not quite reach SC levels of fuel economy gains (also aided by no fuel spillage). The SC employs a "keyhole" or "inverted egg" shaped venturi profile whereas the Lectron, again like conventional carbs, uses a round bore. Maintaining strong signal is of paramount importance for metering rod style carbs. The SC's venturi shape serves to better focus airflow and maximize signal at the metering rod down low or off idle to around 1/4 throttle where the venturi begins to transition into the full bore mid to top. What that gives you is the off idle snap and throttle response of a smaller bore carb, a linear rate of opening in the 1/8th to half throttle where most riding occurs, and the full bore mid to top. We highly recommend checking out a picture of the SC's venturi shape for clearer understanding about this. The Lectron's round bore means that the rate of opening off idle is faster (larger diameter initial bore). Unfortunately because these carbs require maximized signal at the rod, this fast rate of opening can cause a momentary weak signal or stalled air velocity, especially on quick throttle whacks and that makes for hesitation/weak/soft bottom end power delivery. In fact the Lectron is known for this. They've done their best to improve bottom end signal (power/torque) by sleeving down the bore diameter (the "38mm" HV Lectron actually measures 34mm right behind the slide) or by reshaping their venturi/bell (newest Lectron H series) which has to an extent helped, but at the cost of reducing top-end throughput. Other differences include the SC being externally adjustable, typically from the seat. You're able to adjust the metering rod position and idle set screw externally whereas with the Lectron you have to remove the cap to adjust the metering rod. Also the SC has a much higher resolution adjustability - 10 clicks per revolution to Lectron's 4 so you're really able to dial the rod in for best performance. The SC accepts all modern 2T stock throttle cables whereas the Lectron typically requires you to purchase one of theirs. The SC has the choke on the left side of the carb where you can reach it while the Lectron's choke is on the right or pipe side. Lastly the SC is fully CNC machined for extremely tight tolerances and unsurpassed durability. We will be putting videos out soon that highlight the features of the SC as well as how it compares to the Lectron and other carbs. The reality of it is that the SmartCarb lives up to our claims and is the most advanced mechanical fuel system in this space and the reasons why are objectively clear.

what's wrong with stock carburetor???
@SmartCarbFuelSystems
@SmartCarbFuelSystems 4 жыл бұрын
The stock carburetor in a 2020 Sherco 300 is a 36mm Keihin PWK. We believe the question shouldn't be "what's wrong with the stock carb" but rather "why hasn't carburetion changed or advanced over the last few decades?" To be sure the PWK is a fine carburetor and the major manufacturers currently use it or the lesser Mikuni with acceptable results, but the underlying technology and operating principles are relatively ancient compared to what the SC2 SmartCarb provides. Properly jetted, the PWK works well on modern 2T bikes, however what the SmartCarb offers goes above and beyond matching what the Keihin (or Mikuni) provide with their best jetting. With a SmartCarb you get 10% more power, 30% better fuel economy, significantly reduced emissions outputs, external adjustability (typically from the seat); and you get all of those benefits every day, all day because the SmartCarb offers ambient air density compensation for best performance no matter any changes in elevation, temperature, or humidity. No other bolt-on modification to your bike will come close to what the SmartCarb provides for all aspects of performance and ease of use.
