LOL, I just installed new PVC lines from my wife's garden to the rain barrels where I have a High output garden pump in one. I used a spare Sonoff"Mini Smart Light Switch" that has the 120VAC and pump wired into it and a "Flow" sensor. Works good! This would be so much easier both hardware and programming. I guess I need to re-do this again. My wife thinks I am crazy.... she's probably correct. I finished wiring this in yesterday. Great Video!

@@BeardedTinker Nope, I still need to connect the flow sensor to a Pico W and get the data back to HA. After I got off your video, about 30 seconds went by and I got on line and ordered one. Getting lazy, all my 38 HA devices are ZigBee so it was a no brain er for me. Thanks

Another wonderful video, my bearded compadre! I recently set up an irrigation timer both out of the box and assembled from individual parts and I have to say, this device would be admittedly cheaper (if you already have the hub for it). Also, mine does not meter the water--a challenge I may tackle later because that's a really useful feature. That's a pretty neat little water valve. I'd like to add a little "inside" info about these devices in general in case anyone is thinking of different use cases: If you want to use this on a rain barrel or other water source with no pressure, you would need to add a significantly powerful water pump capable of holding the water pressure high. The valves used in these sort of devices are diaphragm valves which require water pressure to operate--usually a minimum of 7-10 PSI (0.5-0.7 Bar) and nominally ~50 PSI (3-3.5 Bar). There are electronic ball valves for that sort of use, but I've not seen any smart ones, so you'd have to improvise a bit if you wanted to go that route. Just thought I'd drop a little something to contribute to the conversation. It's always a pleasure seeing what you're getting into. Thanks for the video!

Thank you!!! Watched your video and really liking what you did - you wanted on zone and ended up with 3 zones total. BTW - while I'm also clueless about adding BLE devices that are not supported, did try it once and actually it was not that hard - of course, you have no use for it now, but with the help of guide I had at that time, it was possible to follow steps and have basic operation. Unless data is encrypted, but I seriously doubt that they would do that with this type of device.

@smartercircuits 5 күн бұрын
@@BeardedTinker I appreciate that very much! I may tackle the BLE thing again when I come back and do the moisture and rain sensors. Good to know it's a possibility. I may end up with a Zigbee hub after all, though. I got a super secret care package that I'll be revealing in the next few weeks. Thanks again for all your support and kind words!

Not related to the video however I recently found a video "Apple Air Tags in Home Assistant - Proxmox Guide 2024" which allows you to see the Airtag location directly in HomeAssistant although it is in German. Would love to see an English video about it but of course I do not know if you have iPhone/iPad with Airtag to make it happen :)

Great info. It would be interesting to see how it works paired with some more complex integration for HA such as HAsmartirrigation or simlar to automate garden watering .

I've looked at HA Smart Irrigation component and it shouldn't be the problem. But we would still need to create automation to be able to use data from SIrrigation component for watering everything.

Looks quite similar to the GiEX TS0601 valve. I guess it manufactured by the same company. But it seems sonoff has a much better firmware.

I have two different Zigbee Smart Water Valves (sorry, Sonoff - too late this time). Unfortunately, water measurement seems way off with those devices. I assume they only measure the time the valve is open and multiply that with a "possible" water throughput, regardless of how far the faucet is actually opened. Oh, well. More important is the reliablity, as I don't want to unintendedly flood my precious plants.

@@BeardedTinker When Lidl back in the day (early pandemic) briefly and spectacularly brought out their still amazing range of zigbee smart home stuff, one of them was a watering valve. It was ages, at least a year I think, before ZHA eventually exposed everything useful to control them. At first the things had to be retriggered every 58 seconds, which was devastating for the battery life, as there was no way to otherwise defeat the built in timer which defaulted to 1 minute. Now you can just move a number input slider to set the duration, open it, and it closes itself after the duration you set, seems simple but it took so long to happen. I liked it that much, even from before the extra functionality happened, that last year I hunted two more down, one to use, one a spare, as they're pure unobtanium now, they weren't new, but I don't care. I genuinely don't know why ZHA is so slow at getting proper functionality, I even considering migrating to Z2M because of it, and may still do. If they're cheap enough in rip-off Britain, it looks like the Sonoff SWV might be a serious contender, as I've never liked any of the alternatives to my now trusted Lidl specials.
@BeardedTinker

If I remember correctly they were rebranded Tuya devices. My personal favourite is Z2M - but I do get what people go for ZHA, it's easier to setup and maybe even use. But it does come with a price.
