It's the reason I love The Pumkins so much. They're sirene and angelic and melon collie one moment, then the bottom falls out and they're instantly the deepest darkest hardest shit hole on Earth, swallowing me whole, into the abis of Billy's journey. He is an incredible guitar player and as heavy and dark as they come. Fuck I love him!

I think he is a better songwriter than he is a guitar player and I say this as a huge fan since Christmas 1993. Have seen them over ten times on the Australian tours. You certainly do recognise him within three notes. I listen to the pumpkins as much for the drumming as I do the guitar, probably more the drumming these days.

"He's an animal." He's just getting started. 🤟 Billy likes to stalk the listener. It's the simple, slow tread of the predator coming after you. He keeps you waiting in terror for that blow you know is gonna crush you. Sometimes, you hang suspended with an undercurrent of long, sustained notes like a scream. Sometimes he has you plummeting helplessly through space. The adrenaline builds. I have nearly had heart attacks from their music. Part of the genius here is that they captured what was ALREADY IN THE SONG. The torturous monotony of American life at middle age. The lack of fulfillment in materialistic success. How one has to reach deep within that ocean of self to find the will to go on in a society focused on all the wrong things. The undercurrent of rage that drives it all. It was always in the song. And it's perfect for Billy and his audience right now. Genius. PS your facial expressions are the best!

You reaction was soooo fucking good that I had to share this! We have entered into an era of perfection, where artists lean heavily on digital software to clean up everything to an exact science of sound. Bands don't even need to be in the same room any longer, just dropboxing their parts without ever meeting. Lead singers have become forgettable (with some exceptions like Sleep Token). Voices are starting to blend together in the pursuit of what is currently trending over trying to create something unique and different. In the era of the 90's we could instantly recognize a band by the first word a lead singer sang. You knew it was Chris Cornell, Billy Corgan, Eddie Vedder, Kurt Cobain, Scott Weiland, Courtney Love, Trent Reznor etc....because they weren't trying to recreate a trending sound, but rather, they were trying to break down doors with their unique vision. I am sure that someone will defend this era of music with calling me an old dog, but I stand firmly in my resolve that it is harder today to find a unique voice than it was back then.

Saw them the other night in Tampa, lifelong fan, favorite band. Corgan is one of the best songwriters and guitarists of our generation. He's not John Petrucci(dream theater) or Steve Vai on the technical perfection side, but dammit he plays with everything he has. His lyrics, his music, his voice even(I love the nasal, unique voice he has) have made this band my favorite since the early nineties. Hell, almost every band in the nineties was amazing and some are still going like Weezer, Alice in Chains, etc. Do yourself a favor and find some live stuff like this throughout the years to see Corgan RIPPING solos from hell. you should see them play this in 2000. their sound is tighter now but it was crazy and raw when they did it back then.
