@@fm-filmmusic6481 No not really, as the book describes the battle with Ancalagon to be very long and considering how movies have longer battles than books generally, Ancalagon could be shown a lot. Also movies tend to change things from the books so yeah. Glaurung would have a long theme and he'll probably be a more important version of the Witch King as he was a lieutenant of Morgoth's armies.

There’s so many fantastic lines in this scene! “I know the smell and taste of Dwarf, no one better. I don't care what people say about quadrupedal anatomy and how "he looks like a wyvern". Smaug is the most spectacular movie dragon out there. With his four-legged anatomy rather than the six dragons "should have", they captured the serpentine movement Tolkien described in his book beautifully. Not to mention flight is only possible with a bipedal anatomy, so this made Smaug seem even more real. When it comes to little details, the animation and the attention that was put into designing Smaug was incredible. Coins clinging to his scales in places, old scars like broken horns; all of the tiny details made it seem entirely possible that Smaug could be real. Of course, he is also a very handsome dragon :). Thank you, Peter Jackson, for the great dragon, Smaug the Golden!

Isn't a dragon supposed to have four legs, and wyverns two?
@SuperGman1177 жыл бұрын
But those aren't legs. Brenna said legs.
@brennakoeppen76297 жыл бұрын
Sigiswulf I suppose if you want to think of it that way. But the number of limbs does not make or break a dragon. The common Western dragon does indeed possess six limbs, and the wyvern four. But Eastern dragons only have four limbs--and yet they are true dragons. The South American ampitheres, or "Quetzalcoatl", only have wings. Despite having wings for forelegs, Smaug cannot truly be a wyvern. Generally, wyverns lack the ability to spit flames, while Smaug's entire body is infused with fire. Intelligence is also an important distinction. Wyverns, while closely related to dragons, are mere beasts--think being attacked by a scaly bear with talons. Dragons are extremely intelligent, typically able to speak, and they not only love riddles but are clever enough to beat a human in such a game. There is an immense amount of variation in the dragon species, from powerful, armored beasts to long, lithe wingless Ancients of the East. They can embody any element, though of course Fire Drakes are the most well-known. Some dragons have such unusual features as feathers (like the ampitheres) or multiple heads (the fearsome hydras). The African amphisbaena has no limbs and a head on either end of it's body! It seems a little unfair to consider Smaug a wyvern based only on his wing configuration. After all, Glaurung, the Father of Dragons, lacked wings entirely!
@SuperGman1177 жыл бұрын
Just saying, you said legs, not limbs.

This music represents Smaug perfectly. Parts of slow yet strong, describing his slumbering power before he was awoken. Other parts, like around 18:00, show off the terrible majesty of the Great Dragon of Erebor. He is greater than any in the north, a winged nightmare of flame and scale. He glitters like gold in the burning corpses of cities that have fallen victim to his wrath. He is the last true descendant of some of the most feared beings of the First Age, the descendant of Glaurung the Terrible. He is the legends of the old days brought back to life to sow death among the men of the north. He is Smaug, and he is death.

I think Smaug's death should've been included into The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug so there wouldn't have been a weird and awkward cliffhanger/break in between the second and third movie. Otherwise, love the trilogy. *except Killi and Toriel's romance because that was highly unnecessary*

@jarvoh28304 жыл бұрын
@@namast3260 There is a fan edit out there which experimented with what the hobbit would have been like as 2 movies. Smaug is the mid-point of the second film and the five armies battle is shortened with re-edited sequences which make it better overall. Whilst the edit removes more of the silly parts of the films such as most of the Alfrid stuff, enough is left in to keep each film over 3 hours long. e.g. the necromancer plot is kept in but restructured to better fit the main story, which keeps the focus on Bilbo, Thorin and Gandalf.
