FOR THOSE SPECIALIZING IN MEXICAN SPANISH, and maybe other countries, when something smells or tastes bad it is also very common to say "huele feo/a", "sabe feo/a". Things smell or taste ugly. There are other circumstances where they would say ugly instead of bad as well but these are very common, especially in Mexican Spanish. Of course, it also has to agree with gender and number as well just like the rules n this video. Thank you Qroo Paul!

Thanks for taking the time to share that. That's actually how I say it but when I mentioned that in a previous video I was told by several people that it was not a "universal usage" so I kept it pretty generic in this video.

Hola Qroo, I have been trying to learn Spanish for about 20 years off and on. Right now I take a one hour lesson once a week from a wonderful Mexican teacher. I came across your videos about a year ago and I have to say that I really enjoy your approach. You use great analogies between the English and the Spanish. That really helps to paint a picture in my mind. You provide a great service to the language illiterate American, like myself. I’ll probably not get as proficient as you, but that’s my aspiration. Thanks for all you for us. 👏👏😎👍 I’d like to support your channel. Please send me the method to do this.

Thanks. I appreciate that. The only way that I currently have to support the channel is when people send "super thanks". That's the icon on KZfaq that says "thanks" and has a heart with a dollar sign in it. I should probably add "buy me a coffee" or something like that. I'll work on that. Thanks for the suggestion.

"Sabe un poco dulce." It can be used, but "dulce" in this context is an adjective, and so we'd normally say, "Està un poco dulce." Or, if we want to keep "saber," we'd say, "Sabe a algo dulce," or "Sabe como algo dulce." Other examples: "Està bien dulce," "Sabe a pato." "Sabe a gallina loca." "Esta muy amarga." "Sabe a algo que es amargo."

Paul . My confusión with saber being used for how something tastes Is that the word i thought for taste was sabor ? Or soboroso for tasty . You didn't mention when to use or if sabor Is rarely used ? Can you clarify that for me . These are the things i can't seem to grasp by studying verbs . Thanks

How would you distinguish "what does chicken taste like" and "what does THE chicken taste like" in Spanish, since the example uses "EL pollo" For the prior?
@QrooSpanish
@QrooSpanish Жыл бұрын
In most cases, context. If you are eating chicken, I would probably only ask if it tasted good or just ¿qué tal? However, if you are trying a more complicated dish with spices or perhaps an exotic drink, I may ask, ¿a qué sabe? Sabe a menta, sabe a fresa etc. In the case of drinks or candy, you could ask, ¿De qué sabor es?

@QrooSpanish Жыл бұрын
Saborear is for great for saying you savour somthing, really enjoy it. It can also be used for the act of tasting something, but with the emphasis on the enjoying. If you are just trying something to taste it, use probar. This thread discusses the difference between saber and soborear in this context: forum.wordreference.com/threads/saber-a-saborear-como.1870480/

Grammar is how you say it is. I have not slept well due to "lo suficiente.". The Grammar behind that takes me to Egypt around cerca 300 BC or before the current era. I have not used saber as you show. Butt does not cover that usage in sections 26.9 third édition. Libro de Sinónimos y Antónimos para Estudiantes por Elizabeth Verzariu et alia does not cover it. Google Translate did derive it from "tastes like chicken.". On to the Real academia española there It is. Saber superscript 2: intransitivo tener una cosa, especialmente un alimento, o producto su sabor determinada sensación. La salsa sabe A cebolla. As in the last case, the usage of lo suficiente, the fault is neither in the star or in the Spanish. The salsa knows the cebolla. Look That salsa tastes like onion. What tastes the onion? The salsa. Can salsa taste an onion? No! What does one do now? Find the history of the words taste and like.. Why because sabor-flavor are the same word (See Grimms Law). Gustar Is latín and used in English (with gustó he chugged down the Papás Blue Ribion Béer. Taste will be the problème due to the 1066 Norman Conquest I guess.😮. Let us prove the guess true or false. (Always guess because of the keys lost in the dark are easly found near the lamp post.). Thé guess is when it comes to like. Like Old English from 1300 as an Equal....similar. ohhh Similar is Latinic Spanish... Farmácia Similarités. Ok. Let's see about taste. There it is thé 1066 Norman Conquest Bingo! See taste in etymonline.com. Now let us complete the English. "Tô me that frog leg tastes like chicken.". Now we translate knowing there are no verbal objects and preposicións missing. Esa anca de rana me sabe a pollo. (The Spanish now transfers the sensation of taste to the object me) Next? Walk outside and play the translation to a Mexicano. Esperame por favor? I asked which do you think is better este anca de rana tiene el sabor de pollo o esa anca de rana me sabe a pollo? She said the second was to her taste. That is how one investigates a word, a phrase, and an idiom. Be like Ronnie Ray Gun trust but verify. Are both words in play in the attachéd vidéo: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gd-odsRmmc6yaYU.html.
