Smelt are a saltwater fish that escaped from a small lake in MI which was close to Lake Michigan around the 1900s I believe. There's a video on here with a old man doing a power point presentation on the history of smelt in the great lakes. It's very interesting, even to someone like me who doesn't fish. I ended up coming across it looking at Lake Michigan shipwreck history and it was a suggested video that I just clicked on. I would highly recommend watching it if you come across it

Many many years ago my father & his parents would fill a 5gallon bucket with smelts and feast on them. My grandfather’s favorite snack was sardines, he ate them everyday. He would eat 2-3 cans while deer hunting.

Smelting is big here in Vermont too especially through the ice on a jig pole if you know where the schools are you can set up lines with 2 or 3 hooks and jig up multiple at once pretty fun

Like number 954. We use to dip net the smelt in Michigan they were so thick. You could fill a 5 gallon bucket in 3 or for dips. We would dip them in beer batter and eat them like French fries. I love them dipped in ketchup or tartar sauce👍🏻💛🙏🏻

When I was a kid, the owner of the camp we went to used to do a smelt fry over the fire on Thursday night. They were so good. Camp was kn parry sound bay off of Georgian Bay. People here catch em on the niagara river. Im scared off of them because of the reports of the chemicals they have in them.

Love watching your videos Murda!! Can’t wait till I can get out this summer and start fishing. Don’t know if there are Walleyes here in Massachusetts? I’ve watched almost every video you’ve put out and I’m real curious to what they taste like. My favorite fish to eat from a lake is Bass and from the ocean I love Bluefish my Mom used to make a chowder with my Dad. It’s bomb. Hope you have a great rest of your day, and hit this like if you’re another girl who loves watching his channel--->
