Frankly, all organized religion falls into the same trap: "We'll tell you what to think, and how to behave. Don't worry about having to research it yourself. Just listen to us, and your spot in heaven is guaranteed. That'll be 10% of your annual salary". It probably starts honestly enough, but once the followers forget how to do their own research, the leaders can morph the religion into whatever they want it to be, and if anyone questions it, "that's blasphemy!"

@@kaymarx9677 So I was talking about 14th century Catholics. I probably should have stated that. My bad. :) Modern Religion is under such intense scrutiny from an increasingly atheistic, apathetic population, that they've lost a lot of their power to be able to pull the kind of stuff they were able to for 1500 years or so, from just before the fall of Rome to just before the Holocaust, (give or take a couple hundred years). When Catholicism was the sole religion (and the state religion) of all of Europe, they had a LOT of power, and with power, comes corruption.

The way i understand is that God knows what we will choose. He doesn't make US choose anything. The choice of our life is in our hands and we can change it at any moment. Its just that God knows what we will do of our free will.
@nathanjora7627 Жыл бұрын
@@Azrael178 Doesn’t really work when 1) we can’t actually change given that we don’t actually know the consequences of our actions to the fullest, so we’ll never be able to change the decision he foresaw us take, 2) he set up everything. @Nathan Jora set a ball on a hill, knowing that its nature will be to roll, knowing every rock and twig that will alter its path and how its size and weight and friction will change over its journey, and say "you choose which cup you land in. You can roll however you want, dodging and hitting obstacles along your path, and I will not interfere with your choice, and your fate is your responsibility alone."
@nathanjora7627 Жыл бұрын
@@instantnoob Pretty good analogy, but you forgot to say that the guy telling the ball it has a choice is also the guy who made the hill from A to Z and placed every twig and bump knowing how it’ll affect the ball
@swilson3d Жыл бұрын
@@instantnoob Except that you don't have perfect knowledge of the rocks and twigs. If you did, you'd be able to calculate the outcome. The ball isn't really making choices. Its destiny seems like a choice only because we are incapable of calculating its path. Of course God isn't real, and if he were he'd be a monster, not a good guy. Maybe if he were real, then the real test would be being able to see that torturing people with fire for all of eternity doesn't make you the good guy. Throughout the Bible, there's one theme throughout: God punishes the innocent and promises to let the guilty go free. That's not the good guy.

Morgan Freeman's portrayal of God is exceptional due to his commanding presence, soothing voice, and natural charisma. His portrayal embodies the idea of a wise and benevolent deity, making it easy for viewers to suspend disbelief and accept him as God. Freeman's nuanced performance brings depth to the character, allowing him to effortlessly transition between moments of levity and gravitas. His portrayal adds credibility to the fantastical premise of the scene, making it all the more enjoyable for audiences.

It always gets me in movies - even comedies, how often characters don't react even remotely appropriately to Magic/miracles/phenomena. Often they may make a shocked face and then just carry on as if the impossible did not just occur right in front of them.

If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink (Proverbs 25:21). Do not say, "I will do to him as he has done to me; I will pay the man back for what he has done" (Proverbs 24:29). Let him give his cheek to the smiter, and be filled with insults (Lamentations 3: 30). *Let him give his cheek to the smiter, and be filled with insults.
