I think the honeycomb version is the best variant of the Everest. The “Old Radium” SuperLuminova paint and dial patterning are a winning combination. I too have a gilt version. What I didn’t like off the bat about the gilt is that the greenish tint of the lume application (what you called “neon” in your video) doesn’t match the rest of the dial’s gilt-colored theme. Funny thing is that I started getting used to it and just accepting it as it is -flawed but still with beautiful aspects. I think Timefactors should rethink the lume choice for its future gilt and even the black dial batches. That strong Hulk-green hue even when this thing is in light is really off-putting.

Great shout. I was hoping you ended with the Honeycomb. The same thing happened to me with UPS

I have 8 timefactors watches now, Everest and Everest Expedition among them. I couldn't decide between the Honeycomb or the Gilt, so I went with the OG black-silver dial. Haha. Honestly, the green-tint lume just doesn't go well with the Gilt. I don't like it on my black dial Everest either, but it's less jarring. On my Smiths Commander the Gilt does not clash with the aged lume color. I know Eddie uses X1-C3 superluminova because it's the best performing and brightest lume he can get his hands on, and this type of lume just happens to be green-tint. I would be happier with lower grade BGW9 white lume that glows blue, don't care much for lume performance. On the other hand, I appreciate that timefactors watches are just about the most specs you can get for the money. Consider 10atm water resistance, 250 Gauss anti-magnetic resistance, screw down crowns, sapphire crystals with AR coating, X1-C3 brightest super-luminova, Miyota premium 9 series movements.... these are proper tool watches, so at the end of the day I am okay if they're not aesthetic perfection. At least they are tool watch perfection.

That’s a lot of Timefactors watches haha. Yep, the lume is definitely very strong, just a shame it’s green tinted as you said perfectly.

I’m in the states, if you decide to part ways with the gilt dial I would love to see if I can take it off your hands! 🤓 great video comparison, I keep missing out on their drops

I respect Smith’s history. But wish they’d chose a more original handset to set them apart from Rolex’s Explorer. The handset ruins it for me, even though the first gens has that (I guess?). It’s a great alternative, but if you really love the Explorer, save your coin and get the Rolex. Explorers in good condition can be had used for between $5k to $7k. Edit: the Smith Everest watch first used to climb and explore the mountain looked nothing like a Rolex Explorer. Smith therefore should ditch the Rolex handset for something more original.

I'd love one of the waffle-dial Everest watches, but I've always been put off by tales of Timefactors' customer service. Anyone know if it's improved at all?
@TheWatchScientists6 ай бұрын
The customer service from Timefactors itself isn’t that bad, UPS is more the issue, and of course the fact they are simply hard to get.

I have a Honeycomb and I've always wondered how it'd look with gilt hands. Having handled both, what do you think?
@TheWatchScientists6 ай бұрын
As I said, the gilt hands do look amazing, the gilt itself is. What I didn’t like was the combined look of the gilt with the sunburst dial and off-white numerals and indices. This is mainly due to the different shades of yellow and gold. As well as various textures. Not sure a honeycomb gilt would be for me.

Technically Smiths de Luxe went to the Everest, as Sir Edmund told many times, but the Rolex won with the marketing...

With so many choices out there for “Explorer” type watches, why put up with the bad experience you get with this brand?
@TheWatchScientists6 ай бұрын
Did I say the experience was bad with the brand or the shipping. It’s mostly regarding the shipping, the watch makes up for it. It’s an honest review, so I’ll be honest on all aspects. Cheers
@davidtrachtenberg70956 ай бұрын
I’m sure it’s a quality piece. It would be frustrating dealing with the buying experience…with so few sold at one time.

I'd still go for a Rolex Explorer.
@TheWatchScientists6 ай бұрын
😂 yes brother, me too once the funds allow it. For most people spending more than 1k on a watch is a lot of money, let alone 5k, that’s why watches like these provide nice options/alternatives

@@TheWatchScientists I wouldn't argue with that! My favourite watch is my Hamilton Khaki Field. Bought and worn for the purpose for which it was designed. Plus, Smith's. I believe the original firm made the gauges for horribly unreliable British cars in the old days!

The Khaki is a strong watch 💪🏼. Didn’t know about the the British cars, interesting.

@@TheWatchScientists I once owned an old MG. Laughably described as "a classic". Lucas electrics, Smith's gauges....No wonder the UK no longer has a car industry!
