In the most recent Ham Radio Workbench episode that we just recorded, we talk with AI6YR about SatNOGS, and the subject of antennas came up. "Egg Beaters" are a simple, inexpensive DIY-able option. But it's good to add a balun, and an LNA, to the system.
I spent about an hour today thinking about how I could make a circuit board designed to take an SMA or BNC input, integrate a binocular or toroid core balun/current choke and an LNA, and a spot to put the quarter wave phasing line, with lugs to attach the antenna loops. All designed to fit in the top of a 1.5" PVC pipe (common mast material).
Let's see what that design would look like.
